I’m also a bad wing shot. Haven’t done any in years.

Same here. Probably been more than 25 years since I've been at a trap range.

The pheasant and quail population here in Iowa has been dwindling terribly over the last decade or so. There just aren’t that many birds anymore.

Hey guys, your firearms knowledge is legendary, so let me pick your brains a little.

The next local gun show is coming in about three weeks, and I'm looking to get a 9MM pistol. Can you give some ideas based on your personal experience, that might fit my requirements!

I'm looking to buy used, from a non-dealer, so something with a great reliability reputation would be great.

Next, I'm wanting something that would be suitable (from a magazine capacity and barrel length standpoint) if I finally "man-up" and go to an IDPA shoot.

If it could meet that requirement, as well as be somewhat concealable for carry purposes, so much the better. My hands are kinda small, so something with a really large grip would be a problem.

Last but not least, I'd like to leave Glocks out of the equation (feel free to flame away, lol).

Thanks for any feedback you can give me.

OK, I’ll bite; Why no Glocks? striker fired?, no safeties? plastic?

IDPA has a max mag capacity of 10 rounds.
I think you can use a high cap pistol but you can’t load more than 10.

Well, there’s a lot of good options out there. For me, I’m kind of an XD guy. They are super reliable and they won’t break the bank.

But that’s just me, everyone here will have their own preference. And they will all be good options.

“We’re capped in Merryland at 20 rounds.”

You can get them up here in PA and take them back. They’re legal to own, but not to buy in MD or have shipped-instate. I just sold 10 of my large 40rnd US Mil-spec collection to a former MSP Capt, and we’re meeting up here on Wed, to do the sale. Perfectly legal.

I also just sold my 100rnd Beta Drum mag; never jammed but it was too heavy & clumsy on a Class III Tactical AR-15 w/ suppressor and short barrel.

Mainly cause I have always liked having a thumb safety. I know it’s probably nit-picky, but hey, it’s what I’m comfortable with.

I was going to suggest the 4” XD, but I have no personal experience with it so I felt I couldn’t comment.

I think “IDPA” and “somewhat concealable” are mutually exclusive. I think you’re talking full size. I’m a Glock man because of reliability so I won’t beat that dead horse. For a full size 9mm there’s some at my range that swear on the CZ-75.

Me too!! I’ve heard so many good stories about the CZ’s and the ammo. But I’ve just never had the chance to shoot one.

That's what I thought. Just the weight seems prohibitive.

I have passed on 40rd mags because I thought they may be prone to jamming and went with the 30rd at the shot show across the river in VA. Now I'm thinking I should reconsider the 40rd mags before they get banned and if they are reliable.

Dunno how AR 40 rounders do, but AK 40 rounders work fine.

I really liked how the CZ 75 felt. Sold my full size Koonan to get the SCAR, they gave me $700 for it and I couldn’t say no, but I’m missing having one now. All I have are compacts so I may pull the trigger to get a larger one. CZ 75 may be the ticket.
