PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl is standing behind stances taken by mayors in Chicago and Boston against Chick-fil-A after the company’s president said he was not in favor gay marriage.

“I came out in support of gay marriage and support the right of gay couples to marry and would be supportive of them in this case as well,” Ravenstahl said Thursday.

Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy said he doesn't support same-sex marriage. The fast-food chain said it has a history of applying biblically based principles to its business, such as closing stores on Sundays.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel told the Chicago Tribune that Cathy’s comments "disrespect our fellow neighbors and residents," and therefore building the restaurant in Chicago "would be a bad investment, since it would be empty."

Last week, Boston Mayor Thomas Menino told the Boston Herald he would block Chick-fil-A from opening a restaurant in the city.

--snip--

Ravenstahl said there are currently no plans for a Chick-fil-A restaurant in the city.

This is sort of reminiscent of Germany 1935, or Shari’a law, or a theocracy, or fascism. But it’s OK, it’s pro-gay.

PLEASE someone who lives in PITTSBURGH include this post in your correspondence...PLEASE!

I went to Chik-Fil-A on Saturday. The lot was full and there were 15 cars in front of me at the drive-thru (2 Romney stickers and no Obama stickers).

yes and ask Luke about closing or stopping all the muslim owned businesses- muslims do not support homosexual marriage

Buddhists and Jews who want to open businesses should have to sign statements whether they do or not before business permits are issued

Let the inquisition begin

Doogle, thanks. But the first part is the important part, we now can consider someone’s religion when doing city planning and permitting.

Not to worry. The liberal, left-wing, dummy Democrat, Obamabots are only elevating Chick- fil-A to MacDonald status!!! Chic-fil-A rocks and is raking in mega cash!!! The American people still believe in free speech, freedom and the first amendment!!! Obama, you and your dirt ilk lose big time on this one!!! Remember folks, gay folks make up only about four percent of the USA population. That leaves about 96% of the USA population as potential Chick-fil-A customers. That’s roughtly about 308,000,000 customers. This was a loser for the bad guys right from the starting gate. Idiots, from Obama on down!!!

“Boy mayor is an idiot. Good thing i have chick-fil-a 5 minutes away from me just outside the city.”

I have one 4 blocks away from here in faggot Hollywood, Mexifornia. 2 blocks more is the Hollywood GLAAD office and buttmunchers haven’t protested in the past week since this has gone down.

According to the Chick Fil A site, there is a location inside the Pitt campus.

If so the Pitt administration will get around to closing it long before Mayor Opie does.

Actually successful Pittsburgh Democrat politicians have long been fence-straddlers. With Pope Benedict on the social issues, while being somewhere between Richard Trumka and Leon Trotsky on the economic ones.

HS football is right around the corner and you can pick up a CFA sandwich at a TJ home game while listening to a great band.

LOL. And the old Catholics all over Pittsburgh will look the opposite direction as they pull the lever again for a D. Wonder how many Pittsburgh seniors actually understand their "democrat" party was hi-jacked a long time ago and is actually the polar opposite of what they supposedly believe?

I miss all that Burgh dialect. I grew up there, but moved away in the 70’s with half of the city. :)

I still make it back every few years. We stop by Danny’s Parkview Pizza for a hoagie, and visit the old neighborhood. It all looks so narrow and run down now. But it was a great place to grow up.

“This phoney outcry is ridiculous. These very people blasted 1 Million Moms for their boycott of JCP. Bunch of hypocrites.”

Right, and one million moms never said JCP should be ousted from any locations, either. Change.org is swarming now with colleges that want to get rid of their campus Chick-Fil-As: Hypocrisy doesn’t begin to describe this behavior.

I have to agree with the run down part. When we travel, it’s the one thing we notice upon our return. The trip from the airport on the parkway isn’t bad as long as you don’t go past the “new” 79 interchange, the one that was planned 40 years ago.

While I don’t live within the city of Pittsburgh, I still call it home. Despite the problems with this region, and those problems are numerous, it’s still not a bad place to raise a family. Family members who, like you, joined the mass exodus of the 70s, enjoy the return to their home.

Danny’s in South Park (yeah, I know it’s officially in Bethel Park) has been a gathering spot since the days of my youth. I also agree that the hoagies there are the best anywhere.

As I posted on a different thread, to find out the reason for these mayors ‘coming out’ against Chik-Fil-A (CFA), you just need to follow the campaign money. They are not actually stopping a CFA store being built because they all know that would be an immediate law suit and a certain loss on multiple legal grounds.

Instead, this is that great American pastime, a summer doldrum emotion issue. All of these DEMOCRAT Mayors know that one of their key constituencies is the GLBT voters and contributors. So, every one of these speeches is not for anything but campaign contributions.

As so many other posters have said here and elsewhere, the best answers for this stupidity is to eat at CFA and vote these idiots out of office ASAP. Oh look, it is almost lunch time, maybe I should go eat at CFA!
