From the article: Three more women have accused a conservative Utah political activist of sexually assaulting them, the Wasatch County Sheriff said. Gregory Peterson, 37, of Orem, already is facing 25 rape and other charges stemming from allegations by four women. No charges have been filed in connection with claims by the three other women so far.

Most stories involving accusations of raping 7 women usually provoke posters into encouraging prayer for the victims -- in this case, either all or mostly Mormon women ... all while denouncing the rapist...like Mitt Romney did and other Utah politicians, most Mormon.

Now why would Mitt Romney specifically "ID" this particular accused rapist in a country where plenty of them exist? (Well, the accused rapist was a GoP activist who did some fundraising for Romney).

Now I said "most" stories of this nature draw that kind of negative reaction toward the perp. But once you put "GoP" into the equation...certain posters realize that their uniform has been donned and they'll see "red"...they just won't see past the adjective "GoP" as having appeared in the headline...
...Hence, I "forecast" that in certain posts...
...victims will be neglected in these comments...
...and the accused rapist won't be denounced -- and rarely even specifically referenced...
...these posts will just go after either...
...the source of this article -- the Provo Herald ... which is in the heart of Mormon country where BYU is and over 85% of the population is Lds...
...or go after the one who posted it.

All you have to do is read the posts from the initial article threads on this -- when Peterson was brought up on charges related to the first four victims -- to see what I mean:

* Romney, Utah politicians denounce accused rapist's actions

* GOP activist facing 23 charges of kidnapping, rape [Temple recommended Mormon targeted Lds victims]

From this second link above: Investigators have identified at least four victims dating back to March of 2011. Peterson met three of the victims on an online dating site and another at a CHURCH function, according to the charges. Prosecutors would not say Thursday which online dating services Peterson used. However, he had profiles on at least two online dating sites, LDSSingles.com and LDSLinkup.com. His last activity on LDSSingles.com was Wednesday before he was arrested. On his dating profile, in which he used the profile name, "oddsrgoodbutgoodsrodd," Peterson stated that he had a LDS temple recommend and served an mission to Venezuela and also noted in his profile that he "regularly attends church."

Mormon women, already under a combination stress not commonly recognized by those outside that religion, need prayer aside from specific acts of evil aimed at them. And these specific victims -- and any others that come forward -- need our prayer even more intensely.

One of the linked articles above show a kneejerk "blame-the-source" of this info response...which were KSL.com journalists who also write for the Deseret News (both owned by the Lds church). But, ultimately, people who blame the source for "light" shining on dark corners in this case are ultimately blaming the female (Lds) victims who came forth...because KSL/DesNews was merely highlighting what these women reported, which led to the initial charges.

Look more for lightly camouflaged "let's blame the victims" response on this thread...I mean...some GoP posters just can't stand to have their sacred pet gored or gouged -- even if it was one of (our/their) own whose sexual violence touched all that he was associated with...and I say that as a registered GoP voter.

Simple solution....

Arm and train the womenfolk.

“...no one hundred and ten pound woman needs fear the three hundred pound attacker, so long as she has two pounds of steel in her hand...”

There are multiple ways to identify a person in a headline: age, race, sex, occupation, etc.

In this case the author chose to identify the person by political affiliation. Doubtful this would occur if the person was a liberal activist, imo.

When multiple victims start coming out of the woodwork, the perp is usually toast. He ain’t conservative, IMO. We don’t do stuff like this.

I wonder what the victims thought as he was driving them to his remote cabin. “Hey, aren’t you going to at least buy me dinner first?”

If they had the death penalty for serial rape, I’d be happy to push the button.

But, but, I thought Bubba Clinton was a liberal political activist, not a conservative one.

I could care less about his political affiliation. If he's guilty, burn him.

In fact, I don't see why the heavy emphasis on his party affiliation is even necessary in the first place.

Unlike, say, Bill (”Better out some ice on that”) Clinton, who was not just an “activist” but the president of the United States! (Jennifer Flowers, Paula Jones, Juanita Broderick -— any of these names ring a bell?)

Yeah, the same perp who is now venerated as a Democrat “icon” and who has been asked to play a major role in the Democratic National Convention.

NOW whose ox is being gored, Mr. “Registered Republican”

When the Media runs the political angle, it only calls into question the nefarious deeds of the other party. Let’s see the political affiliation of rapists in general since AP thinks it’s worthy of discussion.

As far as I can tell it is Peterson that is the perv....not Romney or the GOP....or did I miss something?

Not really following the bubba ref (must need more coffee).

Just sayin, rapists should be shot, preferably by their intended (but unattained) victim.

Realize the headline/article is intended to inflame the audience, but frankly, could not give an airborne rodent’s rump about party affiliation.

Arm the womenfolk!

This should be strictly a ‘criminal’ investigation, not a ‘political’ one. If the alleged assailant is ‘guilty, then justice should be served accordingly.

Since you made this a meta-thread with your comments:

Rowdy group of eight women stab manhatten subway driver

The thread I reference was just posted in the past 24 hours. It is about a crime committed against a 62-year-old man on a Subway.

And if you look through the thread, you will see that NOBODY offered prayers for the victim. In fact, nobody really discusses the victim at all. Instead, we all discussed the POLITICS of the attack.

That's because this site is not primarily a religious site, but a political one. So we all tend to talk politics. If you want to get people to pray for victims, post a vanity calling for prayer for the victims, and mark it "religion", and I'm sure you will get almost NOTHING but sympathy and prayer for the victims.

But wait, you specifically mentioned "rape". So, let's look at a typical rape thread:

Man accused of sexually assaulting, kidnapping teen neighbor

In this case, a man kidnapped and raped a 14-year-old. The newspaper is KSL, the story is from Utah, just like the one you are posting.

And once again, search through that thread. NOT ONE offer of "prayer" for the victim. Just a political discussion about the perp. It would seem that your "most stories" accusation could quite well be dead wrong. I'm having trouble finding rape threads where most people offer encouraging prayers for the victims.

Don't post news threads and expect everybody will react the way you want. We want to talk about politics.

Here's more threads reporting rape crimes, where nobody offers prayers for the victim. IN some, people actually lay some blame on the victim, and the parents.

It seems that most rape threads here at FR are not at all like you claim. Maybe that's why you are so confused.

Cops: Teen [15 yo] pregnant after rape by Facebook ‘friend' [41 yo]

Jury finds man, 18, guilty in rape, burglary [of 87 yr old woman]

[naked Mexican] Polk man charged in child's rape, kidnapping of three

American dancer & musician charged with 'sexually assaulting Irish student before her friend was...

Illegal immigrant admits raping child, getting her pregnant (11-year-old)

You know what is even MORE interesting? Most every thread says rape in the title. And yet you didn't show up in ANY of those threads to offer prayers for the victims. You'd think if ANY freeper was going to do so, it would be you, who seem so supremely interested in making sure we give proper deference to rape victims. One of them was an 11-year-old girl, after all.

In fact, it really looks like your REAL purpose is to attack Mormons, not to get sympathy for rape victims, unless maybe if the victims are mormons and the perp is mormon. I have no doubt you care about all rape victims, as most of us do, but your postings are focused on the mormon aspect, not the women aspect.

Maybe that is why you don't get the reaction you are hoping for.

Tex-Con-Man ~ “You sure pretzeled yourself to get your panties wadded.”

Yeah , just another anti-Mormon rant.
Doesn’t this rant become tiresome after a while ?
The politics and the victims are irrelevent to the commentator, just that they were victimized by a predator who happened to be a Mormon .
The last I knew , Churches were for all sinners to repent and change ... but some people never change .

You know in your last two posts...you've had 3 links to illegal perps...I counted 21 of the 46 posts in those 3 links referencing the illegal nature...but you don't head into those to point that out...about those posters...are they just there commenting whose real purpose is to attack illegals?

have you noticed the online “I’m a Mormon” commercials lately? One came up on a hulu show, and one just popped up in a live ustream we are watching.

They are everywhere.....

I presume they were posted because the perp was an illegal alien. I don’t think people are just looking for every rape in the country and posting articles.

As I said, it’s a political website. Illegals committing crimes is a political thing. And it gets discussed politically.

On the other hand, the people posting those threads aren’t attacking other freepers preemptively for not being sympathetic enough with the victims.

Threads are more fun when people aren’t attacking our morals and character.

Here is the deal with this guy. He used LDS dating websites, political connections, and a wealth facade to persue his victims.

The religion thing is actually the biggest part of the story. The victims all believed that because he was LDS with a temple recommend, he could not be a bad person. It is like a “good person” card. Some LDS pull it out when they are pulled over for speeding as if that proves they are good people. I am sure that Gregory believes he is innocent because he holds a temple recommend. I have even heard stories of returned missionaries raping their girlfriends when they get home because they are “owed”.

Religion is man made crap. It’s the relationship that is important.
