Denver-Area Cake Shop Refuses To Make Cake For Gay Wedding

On the heels of Chick-fil-A's president speaking out against gay marriage, a Denver-area cake shop has taken the stance a step further.

Masterpiece Cake Shop in Lakewood has refused to bake a wedding cake for a gay couple's wedding, sparking an outrage among the area's gay community, who have called for a boycott against the bakery.

Owner Jack Phillips told sister station KCNC that he has no animosity towards the gay community, and is simply refusing because he doesn't support gay marriage.

"If gays come in and want to order birthday cakes or any cakes for any occasion, graduations or whatever, I have no prejudice against that whatsoever. It's just the wedding cake, not the people, not their lifestyle," Phillips said.

But many in the community say Phillips' refusal is exactly that: discriminating against the lifestyle of gay individuals.

"I feel a need to disclose to anyone with an 'alternative' lifestyle that this company does not want your business, as they do not participate in making cakes for 'illegal' things such as a commitment ceremony," one woman wrote on the company's yelp.com page.

A group has established an online petition calling for a boycott against the bakery.

"We need to send a message to them that in this day and age, bigotry cannot and will not be tolerated," the petition reads. It has 2,125 signatures.

Beyond the Internet, KCNC reports that Phillips has received 1,000 angry messages about his stance.

Similar with the furor surrounding Chick-fil-A, some in the local community are applauding Phillips, ordering cakes from the shop specifically because of his position on gay marriage.

Even some protesters say they don't want to see the shop close down, but simply change their policy.

“I support local business, I think it’s really important to our community to support local business,” protester Cate Owen told KCNC. "I think we should want them to change...it's not like we want to shut them down."

Dozens of protesters swarmed the building Saturday, and have planned a bigger protest for next weekend.

If I owned a bake shop and these homos insisted I make their wedding cake. I would tell them payment is in advance and no refunds and make them sign for it with this spelled out. I would then make their cake they wanted but would do a sub-par job. This would be my revenge for imposing their law-suit backed sodomite BS on me

Gay= the biggest lie because
In nature gay = failure
In our Judeo-Christian traditions gay means paganist sodomy fought against by the first Hebrews who rejected and fought the pagan tribes. I am for tradition, not what some motley crew of militant gays cooks up.

One would think that with all of the pro-homosexual opportunities offered by high schools, colleges, culinary schools, Bravo, Ovation and the Food Channel. There would hundreds of gay operated and owned cake shops begging for gay business bucks?

Or is this just an arrogant customer looking for a fight?

My guess is the latter.

It was good to excellent. The chicken salad sandwich was excellent. The egg biscuit was good but not as good as my wife’s. The grilled chicken salad was very good.

I’m still not ready for grilled chicken on a hamburger bun. But that’s just me. I wish they would put out a sandwich on Italian bread because the grilled chicken itself is very tasty.

“He’s never packed fudge into a cake filling before.”

And now they’re demanding that he treat fudge packing as a sacrament.

“Bigotry”...The problem with all this is that the activist homosexual community wants to make their own situation comparable to the plight of black people in the civil rights movement.
I don’t believe it is, of course. But that’s the way they see themselves. They want “gay” to be the new “black”.
Whiners...all of ‘em.

“I never heard of them before, but now see there’s one about 15-20 minutes away. I went there yesterday, but (doh!!) they were closed.”

You obviously had never heard of Chick-Fil-A, given that you tried to visit on a Sunday, and “Closed on Sundays” is such an integral part of the restaurant’s business model that it is required of all franchisees and is actually part of their slogan. If you do visit this week (between Monday and Saturday), you will not be disappointed.

Discriminating against immoral behavior is moral.
Accepting immoral behavior as moral is immoral.

The gays are so pathetic. I am 100% sure there is more than 1 bakery in Denver. If not, they could always go to Boulder, more than enough liberal morons there.

Yeah but then they wouldn't have anything to bitch and moan about, would they?

They want “gay” to be the new “black”.

And that's exactly how the media is treating them. The average black person isn't amused by all this. They know that homosexuals have never been denied their individual liberty, service in restaurants or hotels, or at the voting booth.

Race is immutable, sexual orientation is NOT.
