A close ally of House Speaker John Boehner...

That's really all I needed to know.

He’s my rep - good riddance. Since I’m not a party member I’ve no idea who they’ll plug in to take his place, but I may drop a line to the local tea types to see if they know...hell might even throw my hat in the ring...lol

Any guess as to who will replace LaTourette on the ballot?

I think it’ll stay republican this cycle. The problem is if they select too conservative a candidiate, while he or she may win this time against their throw away candidate, the next election in two years will find a more formidable dem in opposition.

Sources say he’s taking his ball and going home because of an unspecified “committee assignment dispute” with the leadership. So he is Congress’s oldest 4 year old?

Sorry about that. I just can’t understand how the shrinks can call that an abnormal condition (i.e., not just someone being a brat), while calling being gay normal, and making a move now to call pedophilia normal.

Like I just said on another thread, not surprising. And this guy used to “represent” me in Congress too.

At last, I had time to borrow a computer.

There are four names being mentioned as possible GOP nominees for this race. They are Geauga County DA David Joyce, former state Representative Matthew Dolan, Cuyahoga County Commissioner Jack Schron, and Lake County Recorder Jason Wuliger. They all sound credible, but I know nothing about them.

The district is an urban/suburban district that where Obama and McCain ran essentially even in 2008.

Your most conservative candidate to replace LaTourette has to be state representative Ron Young from Lake County. It is possible that they may find him too conservative and go with someone else. It’s a very long list.

The Dem is a perennial office-seeker with no $$.

The Ohio Democrat Party is trying to pressure the perennial candidate to drop out so they can name a replacement. They have until the thirteenth of August.

Of course the RATs will pressure their third-tier candidate to drop out; if the shoe was on the other foot, the GOP would likely do the same. The only difference is how hard they will push the guy. If he’s a perennial officeseeker, though, I don’t think they’ll be able to convince him to drop out: he’s probably thinking “this is my big chance!” And the primary was several months ago, so he must feel that he has skin in the game.

He ran and lost in 2000 and 2002.

The guy who ran and lost in 2008 and 2010 is running for State Supreme Court after winning a fluke primary.

I guess it is a good year to be a guy who ran against LaT twice and lost by 20+ points each time.

I see that Ron Young is from the more rural eastern part of Lake County, but presumably is well known in the suburban (and very marginal, if not Dem-leaning) NW corner of the county adjoining Cleveland. Lake County is still the heart of that CD, and from what I read Young has a history of winning tough races (and beat a Dem incumbent in 2010), so given that he’s also a solid (and proven) conservative I think he could be someone who “hits the sweet spot” for us.

The only name I could think of would be for the Dems to run Eric Fingerhut again, and after his single term in Congress, he did manage to return to the Ohio Senate for awhile (left office in 2007).

You do not have to live in the district so I wonder if Dennis Kucinich wouldn’t run.

Other Dem choices would include 2 of Lake County Commissioners, although they are both running for other offices at the moment.
