Went through on 10 Sept, 1954. Remember it like it was yesterday. Went back about 15 years ago to watch my son graduate. Semper Fidelis
Went in before Ribbon Creek. A few years later, I was asked to be a DI, but told the “talking doctor” I supported Sgt McKeon’s training methods, which did not go over well.
I know exactly what you mean.
I may not always remember why I'm standing in the aisle at the grocery store, but I recall my time at Parris Island with great clarity and detail! And I wouldn't want to lose a bit of those memories.

It was still dark after we left the station at Yammassee on the bus to PI but there was a late moon out. The old oak trees lining both sides of the 2 lane road to PI were covered with Spanish moss, which I had never seen before. The moonlight only leaked through in places but it gave a weak glow to tunnel-like passage the bus was following. It was quiet on the bus; Very quiet!
