The House will have just eight legislative workdays in September, and at least one of them will now be spent taking up a stopgap spending bill to fund the government past the election and through what is expected to be an extraordinarily hectic lame-duck session.
The chamber will not take up a continuing resolution bill this week, according to aides, but House and Senate leaders are expected to announce as early as Tuesday afternoon that they have reached an informal agreement to take up a roughly six-month continuing resolution when they return from the August recess.

This is good news, because “fixing” sequestration BEFORE the election, would likely require Republicans to sign up for a BAD deal.

“The House of Representatives did the job the voters put us here to do and the Constitution requires of us. We passed a budget. We invite the Senate to do likewise.”

He should do this, and should have done this, every time this continuing resolution crap comes up.
Last time I checked, the National Debt was on-track to hit its limit in late September.

ALL gubmint programs need cutting. ALL have pork.
cutting 55 billion from the 500 billion (not counting Pentagon warfighting )over 10 years isn’t ‘draconian’. Plenty of businesses have had to cut more than 7-10% lately.
Cutting “the other guy’s” favorite stuff and not your own isn’t working.
Why don’t the Republican or conservative folks in TV debates ever ask why anyone’s taxes should go up when the government wastes so much money and there is so much corruption and fraud? It drives me crazy that nobody ever says that in response to a Democrat who says we have to raise revenue. It’s the spending and waste, not the revenue!

Whereas, according to a report by WorldatWork, a nonprofit professional association with expertise in attracting, motivating, and retaining employees, the quality of workers’ jobs and the supportiveness of the workplace of the workers are key predictors of the job productivity, job satisfaction, and commitment to the employer of those workers, as well as of the ability of the employer to retain those workers;
Whereas ``work-life balance’’ refers to specific organizational practices, policies, and programs that are guided by a philosophy of active support for the efforts of employees to achieve success within and outside the workplace, such as caring for dependents, health and wellness, paid and unpaid time off, financial support, community involvement, and workplace culture;
Whereas numerous studies show that employers that offer effective work-life balance programs are better able to recruit more talented employees, maintain a happier, healthier, and less stressed workforce, and retain experienced employees, which produces a more productive and stable workforce with less voluntary turnover;
Whereas job flexibility often allows parents to be more involved in the lives of their children, and research demonstrates that parental involvement is associated with higher achievement in language and mathematics, improved behavior, greater academic persistence, and lower dropout rates in children;
Whereas military families have special work-family needs that often require robust

Whereas the month of October is an appropriate month to designate as National Work and Family Month: Now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the Senate—
(1) designates October 2012 as ``National Work and Family Month’’;
(2) recognizes the importance of work schedules that allow employees to spend time with their families to job productivity and healthy families;
(3) urges public officials, employers, employees, and the general public to work together to achieve more balance between work and family; and
(4) calls upon the people of the United States to observe National Work and Family Month with appropriate ceremonies and activities.

They already cut 477 Billion from the next 10 years.
This would cut another 500 Billion from the next 10 years.
That’s about $100 Billion cut from FY 2013 budget, and that’s a lot more than 7% to 10%!
The “Pork” NEVER gets cut, in any department.
They always cut muscle and bone, so that it hurts and you’ll pay up next time.
That is true from your local school board to the Halls of Congress.
No President, Czar, or Dictator has ever learned to defeat the paper pushers in the trenches.

Unfortunately the Feds going bankrupt is meaningless. We as citizens will go bankrupt. The Feds will just keep printing money to win elections and will will go bankrupt through inflation.
Do we really still need troops everywhere we have them now? ...in addition to funding Syrian rebels (whoever they are)like McCain wants to do?
Those kind of “realistic” cuts will never happen under sequestration.
Those will be cuts made in some long, drawn out negotiations.
That is a “policy” issue, and not to be addressed in a short term budget crisis.
RE: defunding Obamacare-
When the press asked Boehner if he would be heeding the advise of the clear majority of the members of his own caucus, the bravado faded to a sniveling whimper.
Boehner equivocated, and then, out of the blue, he said: “Our goal would be to make sure the government is funded and any political talk of a government shutdown is put to rest.”

WASHINGTON—The White House is telling agency officials to “continue normal spending and operations” even as they face what the administration is calling “highly destructive” across-the-board budget cuts in January.

Some government programs need eliminating; they are ALL pork and unconstitutional as well.
Defense and Intelligence have already been cut disastrously low, while urban vote buying (AKA "welfare") has dramatically increased over the last 3 years.
Even with a FY 2007 level budget, the United States will still spend more on defense than the next 17 nations combined, most of whom are our allies, and three times more than the Chinese. We would still have more ships than the next 11 navies in the world combined, more manned and unmanned aircraft than any other nation, and a total ground force (active duty and reserve) of 1.5 million highly-trained people.
