The Berenstain family wrote on its web site that it did not know about the controversy surrounding Chick-Fil-A and gay marriage until July 25.
Comments by the CEO of the fast food chain Chick-fil-A opposing same-sex marriage continued to reverberate for a second week, drawing the beloved children’s book figures the Berenstain Bears into the controversy.

Ping!
hmmm. this is how they get big buyers to notice them.
Infected. The nerve centers are infected.
I have loved Chick-Fil-A for 30 years, since it 1st appeared in my cousins’ local mall.
They should be supported exactly because they have fantastic food and fantastic service - absolutely unparalleled in “fast food”.
Now, I will be sure to support them every week because they are being attacked.
I always thought they were kind of PC and homo, frankly.

Everyone remember that tomorrow 1 August is Chick Fil A Day where we all go and eat a meal if you can. It is important to support companies that are being attacked by a witch hunt. Can we put some sort of something on Free Republic letting everyone know?
“We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives.
Really??
This is the statement that has caused all those panties to get wadded up?? seriously??
What is controversial about this?
The Barely Straight Bears?
Eeew! I'll bet that's mutual, Mr. Gay Ranchero.
In lieu of standing in line tomorrow at our local Chick Fil A, I will be going on Thursday to buy $100 of gift certificates.
I am on the Board of Directors of a conservative Christian organization with many volunteers. We will be able to use the gift certificates as awards for those volunteers.
I am also active in our local Tea Party. I plan to donate some certificates to the Tea Party as well.
These are a couple of additional ideas on how to support Chick Fil A and support conservative Christian values.
It is disgusting that these “children’s outfits” would openly support something so totally inappropriate to “parade” in front of children.
But I’m not surprised - as a mother of a toddler it is disgusting how these kids’ programs and movies try to shove PC down their throats, indoctrinating them. Mostly it’s “you should speak Spanish!!!” and “worship The Earth!”, but other PC fundamentals slip in there.
The Berenstain Bears are a bunch of homos.
And their cartoons suck too.
IIRC the creators of the Berenstain Bears were big liberals.
Funny thing is, we plan on eating at the newest 1 next to my husband’s work after their “Family Day” tomorrow. So it’s a plan already.
(Scarily, I just realized his work - which includes “LGBT” BS - might stage some sort of protest against CFA, even if it’s just a public statement.)
“Lisa Henson, our CEO, is personally a strong supporter of gay marriage and has directed us to donate the payment we receive from Chick-fil-A to (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation).”
That was a horrible think for the Sodomite Muppet persons to do to the Good Christians of Chick-fil-A.
That payment from the Henson Company to the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation must be stopped!
The Berenstain family must be secular Jews and are therefore liberals.
>>> Chick-fil-A replaced the Muppet toys with Berenstain Bears books, but the Berenstain family doesnt appear thrilled to be associated with Chick-fil-A either.
Talk about clueless, backhanded, ungraciousness....yep, only Libs are like that.
I did the early voting in Tx and did the early eating at CFA today. It was packed at lunchtime—tomorrow will be off the charts.

Going tomorrow. Never eaten there cuz I’m not a big chicken fan, but I’ll tollerate. Also asked a few folks in the office about going.
This issue sickens me to the core.
Not enought to tollerate homos, not enough to accept homos, but now you must embrace them. And these govenors are completely fine with redefining marriage.
This country has truly lost its way when leaders of major cities are spewing this garbage.
Now, I will be sure to support them every week because they are being attacked.
Tomorrow, Wednesday is Chick-fil-A day and my boss and I are going to Chicks for a fil-A for lunch. And, from now on it will be my fast food choice. Time to stand up and take notice what’s happening to our country. Time to clean the swamp as Pelosi put it.
The left hates Christians. That simply explains it.
What made him stray? Why act like this CFA statement is so terrible?
Do they really have that many gay children in their audience?
It looks like Ellen may be getting involved in this too...

“Comments by the CEO of the fast food chain Chick-fil-A opposing same-sex marriage...”
Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn’t the comment SUPPORTING heterosexual marriage, rather than OPPOSING same-sex marriage? Or did I miss something.
Their sons Leo and Michael also entered the family business after making their own forays into children’s publishing as an author and illustrator, respectively.
In the 1990s, the men worked on the Berenstain Bears “Big Chapter Book” series (published under the names Stan and Jan Berenstain).
Following Stan’s passing away from lymphoma in 2005, Michael collaborated with his mother on writing and illustrating Berenstain Bears installments, while Leo has been involved with the business side of the franchise. Jan Berenstain passed away in February 2012 following a stroke.
Mr.(Michael) Berenstain has been working on a series of faith-based childrens books with his mother. The series is known as the Living Lights series. He comments on writing about this topic saying, my parents and I have always been aware that weve had a huge amount of enthusiasm from religious families, people of all religions, but especially from Christian families, so the idea of doing books specifically about faith issues has been in the back of our minds. The series is published by Zonderkidz, a division of the HarperCollins Company. Alicia May, Vice President of Marketing says that the company is thrilled to receive constant positive feedback from families and retailers about these new Berenstain Bears books. We are proud to partner with Michael Berenstain on these new books that are inspiring young readers and teaching them in such a fun, familiar way that they are very special children of God.

Berenstain Bears
I always thought they were kind of PC and homo, frankly.
^^^
Agreed
Did you actually read the statement?
What I’ve HEARD is not so terrible, from either the owner or the son. Or whomever they all are.
If you can direct me to TOTAL and COMPLETE actual quotations of what each of them said, because I’ve probably not seen it all, that would be great. I do wish someone would post a thread about the whole thing.
Originally the Berenstain Bears were quite funny -- lots of slapstick. This was back in the early 60s. Later it got very PC & sanctimonious. I felt like they had moved to Vermont.
Here is the original article from the Biblical Recorder: http://www.brnow.org/News/July-2012/%E2%80%98Guilty-as-charged,%E2%80%99-Dan-Cathy-says-of-Chick-fil-A
And here’s the article from the Baptist Press (originally in Biblical Recorder) last week that got everything stirred up: http://www.bpnews.net/BPFirstPerson.asp?ID=38316

Time for parents to boycott Henson and the Berenstain Bears. There’s too many perverts out there trying to ram rod this trash down the throats of young children.
Did Ellen herself say that?
This makes no sense. The Berenstains (at least the actual creators of the Bears) were Christians. What is going on?
All my corporate lunches are through chick fil a spent $200 today
Berenstain Bears, stay the h*ll away from OUR kids. Freaks. You homosexual-agenda-friendly creeps ain't the only ones who can play this game.
I think what really caused it was the statement a paragraph later in the speech where he said something to the effect of “we are inviting God’s judgement on our nation if we attempt to tell God we know better than Him what constitutes marriage.”
"This makes no sense. The Berenstains (at least the actual creators of the Bears) were Christians. What is going on?"
They passed the torch to homofacist pagans?
The Berenstain Bears by Stan & Jan were among my daughter’s favorite books growing up. I’m sure their son is on the right path.
There were decent pro-life, pro-God, pro-family traits in their books. I recall one about the “Birds and the Bees” that sent such a positive, beautiful message about the holy triad of mother-father-and-child in nature.
I’m sorry if that term seems blasphemous to some, but on this material earth, family is sacred and should be seen as such.
I’m calling you a troll. I’m a lurker who occasionally goes on rants but nothing like what you say. I’ve looked through your comments and they give the impression of a caricature of what a liberal thinks a crazy social conservative is.
If I am wrong, and you are sincere, I apologize. But your rhetoric...
Remember before posting: loose lips sink ships.
Already planning on taking the family to Chick-Fil-a tomorrow to support the cause. I’m thinking about buying a handful of gift cards to hand out to people in uniform when I’m at the airport.
