SCHOOL CHOICE PROGRAM

INTRODUCTION:
State law requires school districts to offer parents in public schools that are in corrective actions the chance to transfer their children to other public schools in the same school district. Your child’s school, Delhi Elementary School, may participate in the school choice program in the upcoming school year due to the “estimated” 2008 School Performance Score being below 60. To help you understand how the choice program can work for you, here are some answers to questions you may have.

1. Do I have to transfer my child to another school?
No. We’re providing parents with this opportunity as an option. The decision is entirely up to you, so you should base your decision on what you think is best for your child. If you think your child would be better off remaining at your current school,

2. To which school(s) may my child transfer?
Not all schools in the district are eligible to accept transfer students. So transfers are available only to the following Accepting Schools:
[Due to the court order, students may be offered a choice in the school in which their race would be in the minority. White students may be offered Rayville Elementary School. Black students may be offered Holly Ridge Elementary School or Start Elementary School..]

Echoes of South Boston; drives more white flight when they are told their children’s education will be sacrificed to “whiten” a black school. Never mind the physical safety; there is no learning taking place in those stables.
