Mitt Romney Better Move to Right, Says Emboldened Tea Party
ABC ^ | Aug. 1, 2012 | RUSSELL GOLDMAN

Posted on 08/01/2012 2:10:00 PM PDT by xzins

The stunning Texas victory of Ted Cruz, a young Tea Party-backed Republican over an establishment candidate vying for a Senate seat, has already so emboldened the insurgent conservative movement that activists are warning Mitt Romney he had better get on board.

"These guys [newly elected Tea Party candidates]" are going to force Romney to the right," said Andrea Shell, a spokeswoman for Tea Party group Freedom Works. "That is our entire mission."

His victory is the latest in a string of Tea Party candidates to tap into anti-establishment frustration within the Republican Party and overcome the steep odds and deep pockets of more mainstream candidates.

Riding a wave of recent successes in the House and now also the Senate, Tea Party groups are eyeing the possible control of both chambers, a prospect, they say, would force Romney, were he to win the presidential election in November, "to move to the right."

"If we can elect a really conservative House and Senate that will force Romney to go along with our bold conservative agenda," Shell said. "He's going to have to really, really go to the right. He'll be working with guys in the House and Senate. He won't be able to get away with too many middle of the road policies, especially on things like the deficit."

Capitol Hill observers note that many newly elected and Tea Party-backed legislators want to remove the taint of Republican-back government spending during the Bush administration. So dedicated are they to the goals of cutting spending, shrinking the deficit and keeping government small, that they are motivated by ideology and not party loyalty.

"It's not going to be a Romney driven presidency," Norman Orenstein, a researcher at the conservative think tank AEI recently told ABC News.

Willard has no compelling reason to move to the right. So he won’t. It’s just as simple as that.

Shhhhh....they don't know that yet. They haven't carefully dissected Mitt's comments, as after the Aurora shootings when he declared that bi-partisan gun control is "the kind of legislation I like."

What kind of margin will Republicans have in the House? It is 25 seats right now, so imagine a tax increase gets pushed by Mitt. Let's just call it a subtle tax increase where they perform the mysterious magic called "closing loopholes" and the get rid of the mortgage deduction but keep the rest of that mess we call a tax code.

Or let's say that he calls for letting the Bush tax cuts expire.

All of the Democrats + 26 Republicans (whose only concern, they will say, is supporting "their" president) will get it through the Hoouse over the objections of Tea Party newcomers. Bi-partisan and "that's the kind of legislation he likes".

The Senate will be trickier, but senators are slickier. They, too, would bemoan letting their president fail, so at present, I believe, they would need only 8 Rino senators to prevent filibusters and give us a tax increase called a "closed loophole." (BTW, Mitt is famous for that kind of tax increase in Massachusetts.)

He didn't even try for a 2d term in Mass. Imagine if he has the same plan as president.

A liberal Republican is actually more dangerous than a liberal democrat. "Compromise" and "bi-partisanship" is a sacrament to them.

Now you're scaring me. My liberal republican governor (Rick Snyder) has said that he may not run for a second term in 2014. How ever I'm still suggesting that he's on the short list for VP now.

Call Sarah Palin to be his running mate, thats what a VP is supposed to be there for. Sarah would never be full of foot in the mouth disease like Biden.

She would be Romney’s Jiminy Cricket.

Romney should realize that the Tea Party WANTS Sarah Palin.

America NEEDS Sarah Palin.

Sarah Palin would be an awesome president, Eye, but there is no way that Mitt will select her to be his VP. It won’t happen.

Anything is possible if the Will of the People is strong enough.

“America NEEDS Sarah Palin.”

Yes, it does. At the top of the ticket. And she had the opportunity and said no. If she didn’t want the top spot, what makes us think that she’d want to be VP now? And of course the chance of willard selecting her is about zero.

“He didn’t even try for a 2d term in Mass. Imagine if he has the same plan as president.”

I’d forgotten that. There is also something to recall about history: 2 term presidents usually accomplish little during their second term as compared to their first.

If willard has no desire to be a two term President, and he might not, then he can spend 4 years governing to the left of hussein and there will be not a thing anyone can do about it other than lament it.

...and we can watch Ann Coulter defend every leftist move he makes and proclaim “HOORAY FOR __________!”

I called the Romney campaign HQ recorder and said that he needs to notice Texas & Cruz and take 3 GIANT steps to the right.

Just because he has an “R” behind his name doesn’t mean that we will vote for him, he still has to earn it.

Please keep him updated with your thoughts, put this speed dial on your phone 857-288-3500.

I have already left 3 different messages over the past week.

I sure want him to know that we are here and not be blindsided by overwhelming poll numbers like Jeff Wentworth who got beaten 2-1 by Dr. Donna Campbell, Thank God!

It’s so sad that so many are reduced to putting all their hopes into Mitt Romney shaking his Etch-A-Sketch and drawing a picture they like for a day or two.

What they’re really saying is:

“Please lie to me so I can feel better!”

since he would not fear losing a reelection, her can just go ahead and continue what his like minded liberal buddy Obamna has started...

AMNESTY, same sex marriage, big governmet etc..Willard wont change anythiong back to normal...

and if he only has one term he would still get all the bennies of a “retired” former president and be called upon to give his Jimmy Carter opinion as though he were an expert on everything...

He wouldnt fade away...

future GOP presidents would adhere to his so called “wisdom”

Look how often Jimmy has given his speel and been listened to as though he were the great oracle...

Even I’m not so naive to believe Romney won’t be dragged kicking and screaming one inch to the Right. It highlights the critical need for a strong showing down ballot as well; it will take decisive majorities in both chambers to keep a Romney admin from crumbling in the face of a media /leftist tactic to force Romney to sign off on something an already skeptical Right would abhor..
