LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) The comments made by the president of Chick-fil-A has created controversy across the nation.
In the wake of the comments, the University of Louisville has been criticized after President John Ramsey and other university officials refused to eat at the restaurant.
Dr. Ramsey and Dr. Willihnganz released a statement Wednesday afternoon about the future of the restaurant on campus: "In the past week, we have heard from many people regarding statements by the Chick-fil-A president. We have met with and listened to students, faculty and staff, some of whom supported the statement, some of whom were offended and hurt. UofL is an institution that treasures diversity. Our strength is in the experiences and values we share with those who may be different from us. We also are a university that steadfastly supports free speech even if that speech goes against our values. We respect an individual's right to disagree. We respect an individual's right to choose where they spend their money. After conversations with Mr. Cathy and others in our campus community, the University of Louisville is taking no action. We as a university will continue to stand for diversity and to celebrate our differences."
Wednesday evening, the Family Foundation released a statement after the University of Louisville backed down on their possible plans for ejecting Chick-fil-A from its campus. "We are happy to hear of this decision," said Martin Cothran, senior policy analyst for The Family Foundation. "We hope this will ease the atmosphere of intolerance that was created by the initial comments by U of L president James Ramsey and provost Shirley Willinganz opposing traditional marriage."
"We're confident religious students and others who share traditional values will sleep easier knowing that the administration will not be taking any explicit actions against organizations that share their values," he said.
According to the statement Cothran said that the Chick-fil-A controversy has pointed up an increasing problem on the U of L campus of a lack of intellectual and political diversity. "The problem of political intolerance on the part of school-sponsored gay student organizations needs to be addressed. The administration can't continue to fund and encourage groups like LGBT Services, who seem to think that they have the right to enforce their political beliefs on everyone else on campus."
There's a novel idea. We all should have the choice of adoring and worshipping homosexuals or believing that marriage should not be mocked and should only between a man and a woman.
Oh, ouch. That had to leave a mark.
They were waiting to see how the CFA Recognition Day went. If it hadn’t been a blatant success, I bet we all know what they would have decided.
Can’t annoy those alumni, you know...
I agree. When I was younger I would be concerned that I was too cynical. That went along with youthful trust and idealism. Now I am concerned that I might not be realistic enough to see through all the BS.
I heard the Chick-Fil-A had made a whole quarters worth of profits just today alone! Love to see the American people shock me a and stand up for what’s right. But watch for the three headed monster (0bama-Pelosi-Reid) try to slap Chick-Fil-A with a windfall profits tax.
In other words Ms. Cathy explained to them that he had a continuing lease at the University and if he was thrown off campus he would have both their A$$es and their jobs, not to mention a multi-billion dollar discrimination case on their hands, PERSONNALY, call your lawyers beeches! Reminds me of when Toby Cosgerove who runs the Cleveland Clinic wanted to toss the McDonald's out because they didn't have healthy enough food. McDonald's told him to try and they would be running the clinic, not him.
Make that MR. Cathy! Darn fat fingers!
He chickened out. Get it? Chickened out! HAHAHA!
"The problem of political intolerance on the part of school-sponsored gay student organizations needs to be addressed. The administration can't continue to fund and encourage groups like LGBT Services, who seem to think that they have the right to enforce their political beliefs on everyone else on campus."
I just love these tolerant folks that preach tolerance! Can it get anymore intolerant with these folks?
"The problem.....else on campus."
It's about damn time someone started to turn the argument around and use this phrasing. The only 'intolerant' people that I see are the perverts and their enablers.
A sad but true statement. Still, I'll take it any way I can get it.
In other words:
Money talks and Conservatives spend their own money to show appreciations.
The LGBT Complain and Manipulate and Spend OTHER Peoples Money.
I wish the media would stop characterising what Mr Cathy did as having “made comments”, as if he just decided out of the blue to blurt out his stance regarding sodomite “marriage”. He was asked a question and gave an honest answer. What else could he do, lie, so that the lamestream media could make a scandal of that? It’s not as if it wasn’t already well-known that he’s a Christian and applies Christian principles to his company, the media tried to set him up and it backfired. But they asked him, he didn’t offer the information
My rule is that if it concerns the left, of which the media is a part, one can’t be too cynical. That’s because they really are always up to no good.
