Reid: Romney is guilty of tax evasion until he proves he’s innocent
The Examiner ^

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said that the burden of proof is on Mitt Romney to prove that he hasn’t evaded paying his taxes, despite the legal principle that a person accused of a crime is “innocent until proven guilty.”

Reid accused Romney of what amounts to tax fraud, but he doesn’t think he to provide evidence for the charge. “I don’t think the burden should be on me,” Reid told reporters on a conference call, according to the Las Vegas Review Journal. “The burden should be on him. He’s the one I’ve alleged has not paid any taxes. Why didn’t he release his tax returns?”

The Nevada Democrat earned a law degree at George Washington University in 1964 —

The fact that the Senate Majority leader would publically declare his contempt for American jurisprudence ...unique in the world in that we hold a fellow American....”innocent until proven guilty” is demonstrable contempt of the Constitution and who we are as a people.

He deserves to serve out his life alone and destitute.

Read the comments in the Las Vegas Review. All the ones I read agree with Reid that Romney has to prove that Reid’s allegations are false.

Rush wondered yesterday if Harry’s comments could be actionable. Of course old Harry is probably well versed in walking the fine line of slander without actually crossing over.

It’s French law where you have to prover yourself innocent. In the US you’re innocent until proven guilty. He want’s to see Romney’s tax returns because he’s never seen a tax return just like Obamalamadingdong’s cabinet people. They’ve never seen one either.

This attack plays nicely into Dems ‘Republicans like Romney only want to help the rich’ theme. I thought Moore had a good argument regarding this general theme but I think Romney is hiding from this fight. He seems like a pathetic candidate, little surprise. He needs a good attack dog fighter VP.

Stephen Moore nukes MSNBC Chris Hayes on rich liberals wanting to pay higher taxes (7/8/12)

Romney should do nothing until Reid proves that he has never sacrificed hamsters in Satanic black masses, slept in hot tubs full of warm marshmallow topping and young naked boys, and has never in his life performed “God Bless America” solely with abdominal gases in front of Teddy Kennedy.

All of which he now stands accused of doing. Because, as the Democrats have said (starting with Clarence Thomas), that “It is not the evidence, but the seriousness of the accusation that matters!”

Harry Reid is an evil little man who most likely has a special place already carved out for him in hell.

Hard to believe. Reality got one up on you, John, but I expect a stunning comeback.

He may have gotten a law degree, but how do we know he earned it?

Well, he didn’t exactly earn it. The people who built the road to the university earned it.

Ok Harry, by your logic. I don't think Obama meets the requirements to be president. The burden should be on him to prove it. He should release his records, all of them.

I think Harry needs to explain how he got his hands on data that is supposed to BY LAW be kept private by the IRS.

He could not have gotten it by legal means.

Prove to us you haven’t broken the law Harry.

Speaking of the IRS. Don’t they usually look in to tax evasion or do they just take a 2,000 page return and go to the Refund Owed To You line and cut a check?

You are all missing what Reid is doing. He’s trying a tactic used by what we call “Junk Debt Collectors,” in this country.

They acquire written off credit card accounts from banks who have written them off - as required by law. They have no details about these accounts, other than someone’s name and the last 4 digits of their SS#. Then they file lawsuits against these people without an ounce of evidence and get judgments on people.

If people don’t fight back and make them prove they owe them this money - they then proceed to wipe out their bank accounts.

The point is - they use these tactics to try and get people to prove their case for them. This is what dingy Harry is doing - because he has no proof of his accusations - he wants Romney to prove his accusations.

He’s a fool, and Romney is probably laughing at him.

If Weed did not say this on the senate floor, it is actionable. Had he left it at, “I was told by an anonymous caller” threshold, he would have been fine but when he persisted that Romney has to prove his innocense, he then went over the line.

Of course Romney will not have the gonads to take this POS on IMO. The only way Weed can defend his comment is by having said the truth and just how does he prove it is, by pointing out he had information that is private to Romney and the IRS by law? I’d love to see this old fart pulled out of his condo at the Ritz and DC and tossed into the DC Jail.

LOL, I know, that occurred to me too.

A guy as rich as Romney probably has dedicated agents assigned only to his case.

But remember, the IRS code is so byzantine, and Romney’s financial are so complex, there’s bound to be tons of items that are borderline acceptable or at least could easily be spun that way. I am afraid this is going to end up killing him.

I believe citizens should fight the IRS for every dime coming to them. Unless you want to be President. Then you make sure your returns are pristine and beyond criticism.

I am afraid Romney has sacrificed his chances to be President for a few percent gain on his taxes.
