Support For Gay Marriage Rises Across All Age, Race, Political Groups
RTT News Global Financial Newswires ^ | 8.1.12 | RTT Staff Writer

Posted on 08/02/2012 9:31:48 AM PDT by Wise Hectare

Support for same-sex marriage has risen across the board in the last four years, new polling data shows, signalling a shift in the overall political and social views of Americans.

The new data, released Wednesday by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life, shows a higher percentage of Democrats, Republicans, whites, minorities and people of all generations support same-sex marriage legalization....

Among voting groups, there has been an increase in support for same-sex marriage even among Republicans. Since 2008, Democrats have jumped in support from 50 to 65 percent; Republicans from 19 to 24 percent; and Independents from 44 to 51 percent....

The Pew data supports other recent polls showing acceptance of gay rights is becoming the new norm for Americans. A May Gallup poll showed a majority of Americans polled consider gay or lesbian relations morally acceptable.

The poll showed 63 percent of Americans believe gay relations writ large should be legal, with non-religious Americans, women, youth and Democrats more supportive of gay rights.

Government policy has also been shifting in favor of this new norm. This year not only saw the president's public announcement in support of gay marriage, but also the repeal of Don't' Ask, Don't Tell, leading to more open acceptance -- and even praise -- for gays, lesbians and bisexuals serving in the armed forces.

The endless pro-gblt onslaught by the News, Entertainment, and government school collectives is paying off for the collectivist totalitarians.

Most queers are fiercely individualist. They don’t realize that this works against them BIG TIME in the end (no pun intended).

Is the writer or editor homosexual, by chance?

Nice try, and lets put queer marriage up for a vote when people don’t have to tell a pollster on the phone what they really think and instead can vote in the privacy of the voting booth.

And yet, gay marriage goes down in flames every time it is put on the ballot, even in the bluest of blue states like California. The ONLY way gay marriage came into existence was because some judge decided he was going to be a one man legislature and find a right for it in a state constitution.

Apparently they do. No one appears to have any problem with the fact that gay "marriages" are performed in wedding chapels owned by Mitt's big money man every day.

We can't expect to win if we only fight the convenient battles.

One side (the libs) is winning because they are the only ones really fighting this battle, for the revolution.

The Chick’fil-A fight is fun because libs over-reached, but this is just an anomaly. Libs HAVE the the schools, the media, the kids channels/shows, colleges, and the Republican channel FNC wont normally get involved, and libertarians are on the side of libs on this one.

Hell, you really think Romney opposes same sex marriage?

gay marriage support has consistently polled higher than they actual results when people vote.

Some of that is due to the largest , consistent, voting block is older, conservative and evangelical voters.. The younger people in this country were brought up on gay acceptance and they generally don't vote or take it less serious.

Gay acceptance is growing. It is a fact. A friends son is in the Army and his son said the younger soldiers don't care about the gays in the military as much while the older ones generally do. Just the way it is.

Damned to hell, they will try and bring as many with them into an eternity of suffering where the worm never dies, where thirst is never quenched, where there is nashing of teeth. You should repent and turn from your wickedness while there is still time.

You site an online poll? You are gonna have to do better than that. Welcome to FR, by the way.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YouGov

YouGov’s methodology is to obtain responses from an invited group of Internet users, and then to weight these responses in line with demographic information. It draws these demographically-representative samples from a panel of more than 350,000 people in the UK.

...Panel members, volunteer members of the public, are credited with 50 points for each survey they complete which typically take around 20 minutes to complete (up to 100 points for more time consuming ones). When 5000 points are accrued, users can opt to have £50 sent via bank transfer.[5] Also, surveys are offered to individual participants infrequently (typically two to four per month, meaning it can take several years to accumulate the £50 minimum earnings required for a payout, although some ‘in demand’ demographic groups are likely to receive survey invites more often). In addition there is a monthly prize survey, the completion of which enters the member into a prize draw, users can also spend some or all of their points as an individual entry into this prize draw.

...Critics argue[who?] that, as not all of the public have access to the Internet, its samples cannot accurately reflect the views of the population as a whole.[7] YouGov counters that they have a representative panel and they are able to weight their polls/surveys appropriately to reflect the national audience that they are aiming to poll.

It's beyond "don't care about the gays". I saw plenty of batsh!t crazy liberals on facebook who are not gay (and do not want to get married, themselves) who are adamant in their support for same sex marriage. Now why are they such STRONG proponents for this change to the institution of marriage when they themselves shrug and say "not for me!".

There’s no doubt people say the accept it more because it’s too detrimental to say other wise. However when it counts they do not vote for gay marriage. And youth will always be more liberal and accepting of things out of the main stream or norm. When they get older and have kids that changes.

>>I saw plenty of batsh!t crazy liberals on facebook who are not gay (and do not want to get married, themselves) who are adamant in their support for same sex marriage.

I’ve also been seeing an increase (especially from some smaller touring musicians) who say “I don’t want any political debates on my feed” and then who say “I WILL unfriend you if you differ from my views”. ZERO tolerance for dissent and THEY claim it is the fault of “the Tea Party” (never instigated divisiveness from MoveOn, et al).

These liberals are free to block or unfriend whoever they want. But they are not content to just take such action over words you may post to THEIR page, they will do it if you post to your own or a friend’s page.

I can sit back an observe the growing intolerance from the Left. The anti-Christian rants about monkey-Christ and superstitions (but they still hold a soft spot for muslims). Stalinists lied about their love for Man, too.

This is an Orwellian nightmare. I’m still sizing up the people around me. Being a fly on the wall has its advantages.

Wonder if they sampled Democrats over any other political group.

Well, the article says that:

65 percent of democrats supported gay marriage

51 percent of independents supported gay marriage

24 percent of republicans supported gay marriage

Then goes on to say "The poll showed 63 percent of Americans believe gay relations writ large should be legal..." I assume that means that the poll says there is 63 percent overall support for gay marriage.

To get 63 percent overall support from the earlier numbers reported, the sample would have to look something like 93% democrats, 3.5% independents, and 3.5% republicans (other combinations are possile with slightly different combinations of independents and republicans but they would all have this kind of skew).

If you use the earlier numbers with any reasonable distribution of party identification (say, 38% D, 27% I, 35% R), you would end up with 47% percent support for gay marriage - still a minority even after years of relentless media propaganda

I expect the reporter made some mistakes, but I also suspect that any poll from Pew has bias that stinks to high heaven. They don't call it "Pew" for nothing.

This coming Christmas, the continued evidence of “Holiday season” sales that end with “post-holiday” sales on December 26th (well before January 1st, another holiday) will only become more apparent.

Corporations have been lining up with liberalism for some time.

Leftists insist this is not the case. Can’t be “capitalist” and a liberal, according to them. Then why try to prohibit those companies that won’t tow the liberal line from even getting business licenses?

Polling is flawed on this issue for a number of reasons, usually trending much higher for ‘gay marriage’ than the actual general votes have shown. But if you look at the amendments—when they passed, by how much and if the state is generally conservative or liberal the trend isn’t too positive in my opinion. For instance, liberal Hawaii passed it’s amendment by 69% in ‘98 at the start of the process, while fairly conservative NC passed its amendment by 61% in 2012.

I don’t give two sh*ts what “growing numbers of Americans” find to be trendy, anyway... this is a country that elected Obama in 2008.

Homosexual “marriage” could garner 99.9% support, but it doesn’t make it any more right.
