Michael Quinn Sullivan, leader of the conservative activist group Empower Texans, agreed that Texas voters were pushing out Republican moderates, like state Sen. Jeff Wentworth, who lost to tea party leader Donna Campbell. He said lawmakers allied with [RINO] Texas House Speaker Joe Straus continued to lose key races.
"It's a very bad night for Joe Straus, losing two big committee chairs (Miller and Hopson)," he said, adding that five Straus chairs have now lost in the GOP primary. "The state Senate has become a lot more conservative after this cycle, and especially with this runoff."
Gov. Rick Perry tried to boost many of his allies, but it didn't help in most cases. Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst lost his race for the GOP Senate nomination to Ted Cruz, and incumbent Supreme Court Justice David Medina lost his bid for re-election. State Reps. Chuck Hopson, Sid Miller and Jim Landtroop welcomed Perry's help, but all lost to challengers.

The Tea Party Movement has come a looooooong way since 2008.
It has moved from protest, to knocking on doors and phone banks.
It is now clear, Texas has laid out a winning road map on how to win against any RINO... ANYWHERE!

Hopefully, the new House will send Straus to the back bench where he belongs.
We have to stop Straus from being Speaker again.
It’s too powerful a position to let a RINO be in.

The rest of them should now consider Straus radioactive - pollonium to their political futures. Straus is now the touchstone issue by which the base will judge the TX GOPe.
I have voted AGAINST the incumbent virtually every chance that I have gotten here in Texas - for offices in Texas. In many cases, in November, that meant voting for Democrats.
The Republicans are THAT BAD here - they have ZERO respect for conservatives and it is GREAT that they got their heads handed to them this year, starting at the top. THANKFULLY, given the Primary results, I, again, can start voting Republican again at the state level.
Needless to say, I have never voted against Republicans at the national level - as bad as they are, the Dems are much, much, worse - and extremely dangerous. At the state level - I just want this bunch of Republicans OUT - and if it means my State Representative becomes a Dem, that’s fine - considering that the Republicans here won’t do jack.
AND he’s been there for 25 years, which in my book disqualifies him for further service in the Legislature.

As to your question whether Straus was the 3rd approval on Industrial Development Grants, I don’t know. Maybe one of our other Texas Freepers can answer your question.
I couldn’t agree more, although it is going to be difficult. Contributions to Straus this election cycle totaled $3.4 million for a $600 per month job. This much money gives him tremendous power. But getting him out of the position is possible if his supporters keep getting defeated.
Matt Beebe challenged Straus in the primary for Texas Representative. Beebe was a great candidate getting a respectable 37% of the vote with only $239 thousand in campaign contributions. It took courage to take one of the most powerful politician in Texas.
We need to hound our reps into supporting a conservative for Speaker.
Also, I felt back in 2007 that the GOP in the US House should have voted with about 30 blue dogs to make someone like Dan Boren Speaker to prevent Pelosi.
Our team plays by a whole different set of rules though.
