'BY day they seem like ordinary housewives, mixing with other mothers at parents evenings or on the school run.
Yet when on duty they are an elite 40-strong Special Forces anti-terror team, each trained to operate behind enemy lines, infiltrate terrorist cells and kill.
Now the crack team, dubbed The Amazons after the legendary tribe of female warriors, will be one of Britains secret weapons to keep trouble at bay during the Olympic Games: a role they have been training for over the past two years.
The unit, part of the Special Reconnaissance Regiment which operates with SAS and SBS teams, has already won its colours.
It has played key roles in smashing high-profile terrorist plots, including the operation to free British hostage Judith Tebbutt from Somalia, according to Whitehall sources.
The Amazons have also worked in Yemen, Afghanistan and the Middle East. Some have been decorated for their service.
Each woman has been handpicked from a wide range of ethnic backgrounds and linguistic ability, to blend into a variety of situations.
Always undercover, Amazons will often be invited to the targets homes or inner circle. Others will spend days or weeks watching a target.
Each woman can choose her own weapon after intensive high velocity arms training. They also select their own communications equipment to keep in touch with base and the all-important 18 Signals Regiment that supports Special Forces.
The Amazons are part of a 700-strong unit of men and women SRR specialists, commanded by a Royal Marine officer, which advertises internally on a regular basis in order to keep its manning level at full strength.'

‘The Special Reconnaissance Regiment or SRR is a Special Forces regiment of the British Armed Forces. It was established on 6 April 2005 and is part of the United Kingdom Special Forces (UKSF) under command Director Special Forces,[1] alongside the Special Air Service (SAS), Special Boat Service (SBS) and the Special Forces Support Group (SFSG).
The SRR was formed to meet a demand for a special reconnaissance capability identified in the Strategic Defence Review New Chapter. The regiment conducts a wide range of classified activities related to covert surveillance and reconnaissance. The SRR draws its personnel from existing units and can recruit volunteers from serving male and female members of all the United Kingdom’s Armed Forces.[2]’

Is this from the Onion?
I was kind of hoping for more pictures.
“Amazon” Anglo women go way back; they guarded the homes and glens when the men of the clans were called away to fight..
“Bring on the femBOTS!!!!!!”
Slipped that one in, didn't they.
Sounds like Brad Thor’s The Athena Project

Do they fly around in invisible jets and tie people up with golden lassos?

Are these Moamar’s girls?
ATTENTION! ATTENTION! BRITAIN HAS A NEW SECRET WEAPON — THEY ARE USING WOMEN AS AN ELITE ANTI-TERRORISM SQUAD! TOP SECRET! TELL NO ONE!
Dont be so ignorant.
Did anybody warn Tokyo? (/obscure)
Well, they used to be secret, anyway.
“Among Classical Greeks, amazon was given a popular etymology as from a-mazos, “without breast”, connected with an etiological tradition that Amazons had their left breast cut off or burnt out, so they would be able to use a bow more freely and throw spears without the physical limitation and obstruction; there is no indication of such a practice in works of art, in which the Amazons are always represented with both breasts, although the left is frequently covered.”

And they endured grievous axe wounds. That’s hardcore.

Hmmmm.... sounds interesting. I’d like to see their... uh... muscles.
How high velocity? Freeway speeds? Train? Jet aircraft?
And what if they choose the wrong weapon? Bummer to have a pistol when you need a rifle, or a mortar when you need a knife.

“Each woman can choose her own weapon after intensive high velocity arms training.”
I was wondering how waving their arms really really fast would help them choose a weapon. /s
Seals choose their weapons, also
I thought women were still banned from the frontline in the UK?
That’s why those in the know choose Johnny Seven One Man Army. :)

Makes sense to me.
Also makes sense to me for the US to have such a group, even though they likely wouldn’t be able to pass the standard special services physical tests.
For anyone who bothers to read the article, they’re used for reconnaissance in situations where a woman can better infiltrate a group or situation. Heck, a few older men and women might be useful for similar camouflage circumstances.
I also think a couple of coxswain types and even gentle giant types so trained might come in handy here or there for more purely physical reasons.
They are.
These are SF-trained women who work undercover in Army Intelligence. In the IRA days, it was as part of the famous ‘Dets’, the 14th Intelligence Unit.
No offense but the story sounds planted and trite.
Maybe American servicewoman dont do such jobs.
Ours do and have done since the early 70s in Northern Ireland.
Looking past the hype, it makes a lot of sense to use women in intelligence and special ops scenarios. Undercover, they may be under less scrutiny than men. They can mix with the women at the target location, etc. The CIA uses women all the time.
We're still around, maybe a little more creaky, but still ready at a moment's notice to freep the current creep.
Don't mess with the Florida Amazon Brigade!

This thread is worthless and we all know why...
Yes we use women where appropriate.
To advertise such information destroys the effectiveness of using women for these operations.
Women are not there because they are equal to a man in a head to head confrontation, but because they are less likely to be noticed as being a threat, knowledge of the shallow deciet and publicity, destroys their usefulness.
