TOPICS: Government
KEYWORDS: banglist
Whether this is just saber rattling, it's all just speculation. I'll believe it when I see that these Iranian targets were attacked.

When I say "Second Amendment", *THIS* is what I mean.

Suppose there are a LOT of deer? Suppose they are in hardened underground bunkers?

Suppose President Obama and his crew go into hiding after suspending the 2012 elections...

Hardened bunkers have an entrance and an air shaft. How secure would that make you feel if both were remanded as inoperable? Standoff delivery systems like the B2 can loiter and watch for any movement and then play whack-a-mole.

The Iranians have been listening and watching the West for the last 5 years yap, yap, yap about using bunker busters. All this time they have been digging deeper and deeper into the Earth and fortifying their bases against attack. Will these “new” bombs be able to go THAT deep? How about Barometric pressure bombs into caves as used in Afghanistan? Anybody know how deep these babies can go?

I’m not sure that a 30,000# bomb is a stand off weapon, but we can surely deliver them a lot faster than the Iranians can dig new tunnels. The time constant for digging a rescue tunnel is on the order of weeks, the time constant for dialing up an air strike on the order of hours. Besides all the digging activity takes place on the surface and has a very distinctive signature. And the raids will very quickly deplete their tunneling assets.

Would you agree it is a standoff because they will not see them coming or see the B2’s on a loiter pattern?

Also, when the theatre of engagement is hot, it does not take hours to make a call.

Can you imagine the sound that thing makes when it is going through the air?

The original bunker busters they used in the first Gulf War were make out of discarded 155mm cannon barrels. They went from concept to delivery in six weeks.

The Iran command was hunkered down in bunkers in Baghdad that were too deep to get out without unacceptable collateral damage to the surrounding civilian population. Some guy got the idea of dropping cannon barrel that could dig down and explode deep in the earth. The nice thing about deep underground bunkers is that they contain all the force of an explosion. A small charge results in huge damage.

Acknowledged. The infamous bunker full of regime people and their families that brought out a hail of indignation in the media because “civilians” were killed was BS. To me it falls under the category of fleas and sleeping with dogs.

This was a necessary news release during much sabre rattling by the Iranians and their proxies.

The Iranians are thinking, “Those fools. Our underground nuclear labs are untouchable. They are one mile deep and even the MOAB could not reach us. HA HA I fart in your general direction.”

We did not release the whole plan, although Conley sought permission to tell the Iranians the date and time of the attack...like the first Tuesday in November.

Part two of the bunker buster is to allow debris and dust to settle for 5-10 minutes followed by a low yield tactical nuke right down the rather nice hole created by the first strike. Maximum damage and minimum fallout.

What do you think, Mr President?

Oh, too much chance of success. Shelve it with the others? Yes Sir.

You beat me in posting this. I was around for the initial development and prototype of the Mod 11.

Methinks the deeper they have dug, the deeper their graves will be with air, power and exits cut off by the bunker buster. If the initial bang doesn’t get them a few more days will. Graves and nuclear material disposal already taken care of....

How deep do you want to go? All you have to do is follow three (3) bunker busters one right after the other in a single impact point and you will penetrate any bunker, no matter how deep it is!

Once a bunker buster opens the bunker, fuel air bombs can be dropped in, where this type of explosives can literally blow the entire bunker killing everyone inside and destroying all equipment.

The U.S. military has the bomb capable of doing the job and the Iranians know this. They can dig a mile into the ground, all that is needed is to drop additional BB’s at the same point.

OK, so you drop one in after another on the same designated point? We are talking about a lot of sorties, lots of money and huge concentrations of air power, no? Can the Israelis do it? Or are they just lacking the right equipment?

IIRC, "down the hole" second strikes were visible during "Shock & Awe" in Baghdad. They looked like narrow plumes of glowing rubble jetting skyward -- right where an earlier strike had landed...

For one example see 1:41 - 1:43 here:
