Skip to comments.Poll Position: Will today’s Chick-fil-A ‘kiss-in’ be successful?
Posted on 08/03/2012 9:56:24 AM PDT by scottjewell
The buycott of Chick-fil-A on Wednesday produced what the company will only describe as an unprecedented day for business. Today, we get the counter-protest...in the form of a kiss-in by gay couples angry about remarks made by company president Dan Cathy.
Will it be as successful?
Boycotts have a revered place in American history as an effective form of protest, in large part because of the role they played in the civil rights movement.
Lately, however, the tactics record is much more spotty. Looking at one list of current boycotts, I dont see many, if any, that Id count as successful.
Now, a kiss-in isnt exactly the same thing as a boycott; I have no idea how many of the reported 15,000 people nationwide who say theyre participating in todays protest will buy a chicken sandwich while theyre there. But it is similar in that its an attempt to shame a company into a certain action by applying public pressure.
My own theory about this is that activists are reaching a point of diminishing returns when it comes to pressuring corporations, in large part because they have succeeded in pressuring many companies into some form of corporate social responsibility. ...
So according to my theory, even setting aside the Cathy familys obvious and longtime commitment to their beliefs, a company like Chick-fil-A feels less pressure to acquiesce to one groups demands because it can point to a long list of corporate good behavior. The company and its owners stood on higher moral ground, so to speak, to start with.
Just vote in the nearby poll and explain yourself in the comments thread below.
ADDED: I doubt this kind of action, while unrelated to kissing, will engender much sympathy for the cause of todays protesters.

Most gays went on Wednesday due to free speech so I doubt the 10 folks who are making the most fuss will make a dent.
“Will todays Chick-fil-A kiss-in be successful?”
It will succeed in getting the MSM attention “O” likes to pander to voters.
Of course the MSM will spin it HIS way.
When I swung by my local Chick-filet-A this morning on my way to work there were no “protesters”.
I voted “No” at 1:00 pm:
No (1,655 Votes)
Yes (121 Votes)
I don’t know (94 Votes)
Total Voters: 1,870
Yep, for Chick Fil A. I’m guessing more people will want to watch the kiss in and then they’ll go inside get some chicken.
Not going to help their profile or garner sympathy, either.
If you have to ask then you already have your answer.
Exactly. It’s a flop.
that chick has a guys haircut.
Well, they’re going to have to out and out lie about numbers showing up. Unless they are all waiting for 8 pm, but that’s doubtful.
The EVENING NEWS headliner will be,
"Was today's Chick-fil-A 'kiss-in' successful?"
See how easy journ-0-lism is ?
It’s for the fops.
Now how in the world am I supposed to ‘unsee’ that???
I hope they all get Mono and herpes sores on their l;ips.
I can’t help it I am just a cruel, heterosexual
Here are the numbers on the poll thus far:
No (1,759 Votes)
Yes (125 Votes)
I don’t know (98 Votes)
Total Voters: 1,982
It’s after 1:00. Lunch Hour is over an NO reports of crowds at the Kiss Ins. EPIC FAIL!
If successful = media coverage and free PR, then yes.
And, it will be even more successful if they can get just one example of hate towards the kissers.
It might be a video, picture or photo that will do the trick.
Or, theyll stage an attack.
I kind of have the same feeling. ;)
What did one lesbian frog say to the other lesbian frog? It DOES taste like chicken.
Listening to Rush, thelocal station just finished their newsprogram. They say they have a news team atone CFA location and so far nothing is happening. No surprize.
How is success meansured for an event like this?
Biased Poll - Only choices:
- I don’t know
Wednesday was off the charts. Waited an hour. The place was mobbed (by a very polite mob)
Thursday seemed more like a regular day. Waited a few minutes, and everything seemed to be routine.
Today, business was up again. Not to Wednesday's level, but definitely more than yesterday. Waited about 15 minutes. They were busy, but keeping up. Saw one cup of Victory Water. Dude was such a loser, he couldn't even bring anybody with him to kiss, and I was not going to volunteer.
Actually, if you view the poll results- the response has been massively and overwhelmingly “NO”.
Gay Guys Kiss At Obama Speech
Like you say, “No”. I just came back from a Montgomery County, MD store which was still very crowded and there were no protestors.
Eye bleach. STAT!
I think it is a fail.
Will it be as successful?
LOL. Hundreds of thousands of people came out in support of Chic Fil A. Today, about 30 nasty, flaming homosexuals came out to flaunt their sex organs on the public street. Will the butt humpers protest be successful? If they pass out free fecal sandwiches or fisting kits to the liberal press, maybe. LOL
Just say NO to queerdom. Americans owe then nothing.
I would imagine by huge turn out. As on Wed. Not happening.
Unless they are waiting for the Get Equal crowd at 8 pm but i doubt it. I think its a flop.
I’m guessing they will count the number of vomit puddles in the immediate vicinity of the store locations.
“If the MSM gets a single photograph of two gay people who don’t look physically repulsive kissing”
How can they not look physically repulsive?
It will look bigger on TV than it actually is.
In Atlanta, they are planning an event at the CNN center building downtown from 5 to 9 PM.
This is a multi-story office building with a large atrium in the middle that has a food court on the bottom level. The building is difficult to access and (like most office buildings) empties out when everyone goes home for the evening. The protesters will, for the most part, have the food court to themselves.
And, of course, it houses the offices of CNN, who will surely be broadcasting the event live.
How do you define "success"?
If success means getting Mr. Cathy to recant and state publically that he supports Gay Marriage, then they will not be successful.
If success means getting a turnout as large as Wednesday's (or one tenth Wednesday's), then they will not be successful be either measure.
If success means getting pictures of same-sex smooching into the newspaper and the local news, they will be successful in that. I can't imagine what they think they will have accomplished, however.
aww, how sweet....not.
Le Fags are not going to be spending much if any moola.
They will be trying to prove a point and not (NOT) supporting the business as our side did - by actually purchasing product.
Kiss this you mudda flocking dingbats! Lean over and grab yourself by the bootstraps and pull your heads out of that dark and dank crevasse you customarily place it in times like this.
I went to the local one today. There were four protesters outside. One was dressed like a cow and had a sign that said “HATE is a fowl business practice”. That is not original. I have seen it elsewhere on the internet. One of the local TV stations was filming them. The TV station was not there on Wednesday when I was there.
Business inside was MUCH less than Wednesday. It was back to normal, which means a short line that moves fairly fast. On Wednesday, there were easily several hundred waiting in line when I left the building.
Here’s the new attack strategy based on what I am seeing floating around the social networking sites: leftists are saying that it would have been nice to see lines to volunteer at soup kitchens rather than lines at Chick-Fil-A. Also, they are organizing some sort of food bank event to support equality. This tagline is some drivel like “They fed themselves to support Hate. Let’s feed others to support equality.”
Hilarious. They are actually attempting to chide a group that is far more charitable than they will ever be.
But that’s how they are going to attack now.
“”...15,000 people nationwide who say theyre participating in todays protest,...””
It looked like they had that many customers in the Hixson, TN store alone on Wednesday! These puffers are pikers.
I like IowaHawk’s tweet: “Hawt lesbians making out and chicken sandwiches?!? Is this Heaven?”
But each of those ten will make the front page news. I have no doubt that a big part of what's going on today will be media driven, sort of like the way NBC rigs their "news" reports.
The media would have loved to ignore what went on Wednesday, but local media outlets simply couldn't ignore them... The fact that there had to be police directing traffic around every Chick-Fil-A in the greater KC area precluded them being able to ignore it.
