A Mitt Romney loss wouldn’t necessarily be a disaster
The Daily Caller ^ | August 3, 2012 | Matt K. Lewis

Posted on 08/03/2012 1:26:47 PM PDT by Bratch

Don’t buy the doom and gloom pronouncements from conservatives telling you, “this is the most important election in history.” A loss for Mitt Romney would not necessarily spell long lasting disaster for Republicans, nor would it be the death-knell to conservatism. In fact, it’s possible a 2012 loss could lay the groundwork for a stronger Republican party and conservative movement.

Elections are almost always seen as urgent and morally imperative. But sometimes major victories can only come in the aftermath of what appear to be devastating defeats. John Kerry‘s loss in 2004 laid the groundwork for a Democratic takeover in 2006 and 2008, and Jimmy Carter‘s defeat of Gerald Ford in 1976 paved the way for the Ronald Reagan in 1980. In other words, it is a mistake to assume losing a presidential election is a permanent defeat.

“This should be the most important election since 1980, but so far it is not,” says Reagan biographer Craig Shirley. “Scottish historian Thomas Carlyle postulated the ‘great man’ theory of history, and indeed this was true with Washington, Jackson, Lincoln, TR, FDR and Reagan. But history has not summoned forth great men in 2012 and in fact our history today is small.”

This is not to say Republicans should concede the election, but conservatives should keep November in proper perspective.

I much prefer the fight against Obama than the complacency of another stealth socialist, this time in the guize of a Republican.

I'm happy for you but the voters will have made it plain where the future lies.

Make no mistake, this election is not about Romney. This election is about a mandate to flush away all the barriers that impede a return to strong conservative constitutional government and a thriving economy. I did not say radical conservative, or religious zealots, I said strong conservatives with integrity and honesty. Common sense people who understand that in a free market, supply will never create demand. Imposition of ideals or products should never be the province of government control. The socialist elite know this! It is too bad that the week minded “knit whits” that are manipulated by the elite’s rhetoric can’t figure it out. No matter though, if anyone was witness to the groundswell of support for Chik Fil A this last Wednesday they know that the silent majority has had ENOUGH! And we will all hear from them again in November.

Yeah, it’s not really Obama we should be scared of, it’s the majority of the electorate that would give him another four years in power with their eyes open. If that happens, we know we’re finished.

At the end of a second Obama term, there won't be a country LEFT.

I have heard that breathless crap EVERY election. Every one. We're still here. The GOP-E uses it to get the weak minded to vote for their liberal candidate. And that candidate gets more and more liberal every election.

I'm not voting for a liberal just because you are scared.

“...while most conservatives would advise working hard to elect Mitt Romney, they should not assume that Obama’s re-election, should it happen, would be any more destructive to the cause of conservatism than Bush’s re-election was to the cause of liberalism.”
*********************************************************************
So Bush’s reelection wasn’t all that destructive to the cause of liberalism? So Bush being reelected and thus being in a position to nominate John Roberts and Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court (instead of God-knows-who John Kerry would have installed on the court) wasn’t very destructive to liberalism? Four more years of Obama and his minions being in power won’t be destructive to our nation and the cause of conservatism? What is he smoking?

I don’t know what is causing the apparent outbreak of idiocy among so called conservatives. This clown should go over to the liberal side and peddle his defeatism and “don’t worry, be happy” attitude over their. I’m sick of seeing this kind of thoughtless “thinking” polluting our ranks.

“You fear Mittens will do things you fear, yet you never consider a strong continued vigilence in forcing him to stay on track. The vigilence of an increasingly conservative GOP congress, rooting out RINOs, and the potential to remove Reid et al.”

It’s not what Mittens will do that bugs me, but what you and the Republicans will do in reaction to what he WILL do. Which is, it’ll eliminate the conservative heat, since on one side you will have the Republicans who will always point to the boogieman, and then we will have the marginalized conservatives who can’t make a decision. All this stuff about people putting Mittens feet to the fire is a joke. We couldn’t even stop him from getting the nomination, and you think he is going to respect us? This freak even aids in campaigns against conservatives, and all the while the Republicans will tell us how he is God on Earth who must not be blasphemed. Mittens was the easy, short sighted, temporary “fix” to a problem that wasn’t even centered around Obama. The real problem is the ideology behind Obama, and behind Mittens too, but Americans are impatient and do not think things through. That is why the oriental mindset inherent in communism will win. History is a farce that goes back and forth between tragedy. Right now we are in the Farce stage, so next will be tragedy, and after that a farce again, assuming we get that far.

Republicans are the new liberals, and commies are the new, umm, well, commies. I hope you like it.

Is that your normal sales pitch to convince people to vote for your candidate?

Romney will be a DISASTER of epic proportions.

We already have a disaster in the White House. You think Romney would be worse... Are you insane?

Give this marxist four more years with ZERO consequences... and it's all over. Kiss this country goodbye.

Romney at least can be kept in check, and nudged to do the right thing - i.e. tap energy resources, make conservative Supreme Court picks, lower regulations, taxes.

Obama will picks marxists for the Supreme court (maybe 2), and regulate us to death. Plus Obamacare will be full implemented.

Nice try!

Maybe not if Gary Johnson wins, but Gary Johnson has about as much of a chance of being elected in November as I do. It’s a disaster of near-Chicxulub asteroid proportions for American culture and values if Obama wins.

I’ve made the argument that the best path MIGHT be for a republican controlled congress and Obama in the white house. I won’t get into the particulars here but the SCOTUS decision kinda nixed that.

If the only thing a Romney election gets us is the death of Obama care I’ll be happy.

Mr. Lewis is wrong. A presidential election is also the closest we get to voting for Supreme Court Justices. I’m not expecting great conservatives from Romney, but they’ll be better than the rubber-stamp Marxists we’ll get from Big-0.

Guess what, not only is Mittens not a strong conservative constitutionalist (he only plays one on TV), he hates thriving economies too. Just see Massachusetts and what he did to it.

” I did not say radical conservative, or religious zealots, I said strong conservatives with integrity and honesty. “

In other words, you hate conservatives, and you think Mitt Romney, who has no integrity and honesty, is a strong conservative. That explains why we are where we are.

Morestupidity.

Here’s reality: If Obama wins, Obamacare stays.

If Obamacare stays, America turns into an Eruo-socialist ash-heap.

QED.

As biden would say: Its a big F’ing Deal!

If Obama had a Michael Jackson skin bleach, started wearing magic Mormon underwear and maybe had an operation to make his jaw protrude Presidentially, you’d probably vote for him by accident.

This writer must have been born and raised in Southern Arizona where he’s never seen anyone on a sled in his life. Because he doesn’t know a slippery slope when he sees one. Four more years will cement the takers over the givers to such an extent the givers will never be a factor again on the national scene.
