More than gay marriage driving Chick-fil-A flap

ATLANTA (AP) — When President Barack Obama said same-sex couples should have the right to marry, it was national news for a few days before the presidential campaign and the country went back to business as usual.

Yet weeks after a fast-food executive doubled down on his opposition to gay marriage, debate rages on about equality, religious values and free speech. "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day" on Wednesday, with supporters flooding the chain's franchises around the country, was countered with "kiss-ins" by same-sex couples at assorted locations Friday, long after Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy's initial comments to a religious publication touched off the clash.

That's an unusual amount of staying power for what initially looked like just another skirmish over a hot-button question.

Coursing throughout the conversations on social media, in letters to the editor and in long lines to buy chicken sandwiches is the sense among proud Southerners that the outcry over Cathy's comments smacks of regional stereotyping. When public officials in Boston, Philadelphia and Chicago tell a Southern icon such as Chick-fil-A that it's no longer welcome, and that Cathy should keep his opinions to himself, many in the Atlanta-based chain's home region hear more than a little northern condescension.

"Maybe the reaction is just because we're Southerners," said Rose Mason, who was lunching Friday at a Chick-fil-A in suburban Atlanta.

Mason, who described herself as Christian, said she grew up in New York City. Now, she said, "I deal with my sister telling me we're a little backward. People have this idea that we're just behind on everything. So they view anything we say through that (perception)."

Cathy, a devout Southern Baptist whose family has always been outspoken about its faith, sparked the controversy...

Hope so—before they can brainwash another ENTIRE generation in the public schools and through Brokeback Mt. and Glee type programming-— brainwashing and Normalizing the absurd debasing—dehumanizing behavior which removes God and Natural Rights and replaces it with unnatural rights from Barney Frank or Satanic values.

Sodomy was evil when Ancient civilizations indulged in it-—when slavery was good, women were chattel and child sacrifice (like now) was rampant and Sandusky’s were venerated and given complete pick of the boys. It has been a Vice for thousands of years ONLY because of Judeo-Christianity—Rightly so!!!!

Marxists/paganists/Satanists want to normalize pederasty again because it is the learned age of the perversion-—when they were abused. It is why Afghani boys lust for a harem of boys when they grow up. They learned it.

Sex Ed is curricula created by Cultural Marxists to destroy the innocence and morality of children—There is tons of articles on this—don’t allow it in govt. schools-—get govt OUT of the public schools—they are destroying Virtue on purpose.

The worldview reduces the same sex to sexual objects—which will destroy male friendships as we know it in Christianity. It is using others only for lust. Sexual acts are not “love” and “selfless” in homosexual acts-—which are unnatural and debasing. It leads to the sick cultures of hate-—for women especially, and the using of children for sex, like the Afghanis and Samurai and the Ancient Greeks, etc. did.

I'm in Alabama and I've never considered the Chic-Fil-A a north/south issue, not even a regional issue. Someone is trying a new angle.

It wasn't an issue with me until a few socialist democrat mayors decided to make it one. Trying to keep a business out of their cities because they don't agree with the beliefs of its owner just reeks of totalitarianism.

When it hits the fan, these little local tin gods must be the first to go.

Yeesh, not only the North/South thing, but they try to spin Obama's support for gay marriage as no big deal, something that was a brief argument blown out of proportion. And of course they're implying it was Obama's opponents that blew his position out of proportion. They're trying to "normalize" Obama's position on gay marriage by saying it was silly to have a fight over it, suggesting there is nothing worth objecting to in Obama's position. Funny how they don't spin Romney's tax returns as a trivial matter, something which really is inconsequential to our lives. Of course the media controls who it wants to interview and what facts to report. Clearly they could have made the gay marriage debate an issue that didn't fade away if they wanted to. But they know it's a huge loser of an issue for Obama and would much prefer not to remind people about it.

“and that we had literally thousands or multiple thousands showing up at almost all Chick-Fil-A locations from open to close.”

So in other words, a SECOND “CFA Appreciation Day” in a row, and only a few fudge packers showed up?! The commies don’t realize what is bearing down on them, in 2012 even a dog-catcher with a (D) after his name had better start polishing the ol’ resume!;)

It leads to the sick cultures of hate-—for women especially, and the using of children for sex, like the Afghanis and Samurai and the Ancient Greeks, etc. did.

It's funny how the left tells us gay marriage is "progressive," and Shep Smith tells us we're not living in the 21st century if we don't support it. Since when is Afghanistan's society considered a model of the future for anybody?

Bottom line is gay marriage is about one thing and one thing only, indoctrinating children into homosexual practices. It would produce the total normalization of homosexuality in official society and a direct equating of it to heterosexuality in every way and at every level. That means every child from the earliest age has to be taught that it is their equally acceptable choice whether to marry a boy or a girl when they grow up. There is a reason that a stigma is attached to homosexuality. It's to stop as many people as possible from engaging in it, because without that stigma, more of them will. The stigma would never have been invented in the first place if that wasn't true.

You can try to raise your kids the way you want, but many will be lost to the message coming from the media and the culture. When MTV, the colleges and the public schools are able to tell everyone with total authority that marriage can be homosexual or heterosexual with completely equal status either way, they have a powerful and devastating weapon at their disposal with which to dismantle a modern, healthy, stable society.

Leftists hate themselves and thus hate where they're from, in this case the U.S., and are simply using this issue as they do others to hurt and punish our country as much as possible. The dream of Obama and the leftists is equality of outcomes for everyone at all costs. That means tearing down America's wealth and power until we're functioning at the level of a third world country. America is simply too rich and too powerful for global "equality" to be achieved any other way except by destroying everything we have. Racking up our debt, dismantling our military, killing America's entrepreneurial spirit and innovation through taxes and regulation, legalizing an overwhelming number of third-worlders as U.S. citizens, and destroying the reproductive family unit with the promotion of homosexuality, abortion and birth control are all part of the plan to destroy our country from the inside out. This is the leftists' holy retribution for our unforgivable "sin" of having created, or in their mind stolen more wealth than any other nation on earth.

We went today at 2:45. 4 gay protestors at the outer part of the parking lot...one ol’ geezer was holding a sign that said kiss me??? The parking lot was full, there were 5 cars in front of me and very shortly 6 more in line behind us.

The girl at the window said it just really hasn’t slowed down at all yet.

I also asked her if as media reported where people being rude about gay people, or affirming Cathy’s right to free speech, and supporting traditional marriage. She said not one rude comment had been made about gay people, it was all supportive towards the company.

Being a New Jersey to California transplant (some 40+ years ago), I hadn't thought about any north/south aspect either. I viewed it as liberal Democrat mayors abusing government power to punish a business owner for his religious beliefs.

If gays (as private citizens) want to boycott CFA, go for it. That's their right. If the mayors want to wield their political clout and use government power to ban CFA, that crosses a very wide, bright red line.

Yes. It is radical egalitarianism being forced on our children—boys are girls are dogs etc.-—No Natural Law Theory which is the basis of US Constitution and our Natural Rights from God. Marxists want no God—so the State is god. They want to dissolve all biological relationships because it promotes loyalty away from the collective and people will fight government for family and children—as all history reveals.

We are being conditioned to not only think it is a ‘right” to kill our biological progeny, but it is a right to commit sodomy—a Vice because it is the teleological misuse of the human body and gravely dysfunctional and is unnatural and nihilism. It destroys Just Law—Rule of Law—because Justice demands only promotion of Virtue.

All Founders and philosophers have known that the destruction of Virtue in the society—will collapse it (like Rome). Cultural Marxists (like Marcuse) knew to destroy Western Civilization (for one world order) they have to destroy the morality of the children. Sex Ed is the easiest way to corrupt and destroy the innocence of children. Even Rousseau knew that it was essential to keep children innocent of sex until after 12. We see our culture sexualizing children—since long before Jon Bennet Ramsey. “Pride Days” at schools decades ago was to normalize the abnormal. Diversity was to normalize evil behavior and Tolerance was initiated to condition children to not judge evil acts. This is all planned by the Cultural Marxists—a way to take down America. They had to totally transform the Christian paradigm into the Satanic one. They are succeeding. We need to destroy their brainwashing system—the public schools. (and turn off TV).

Individualism comes from Christianity—it is what elevated women (because Mary was the Mother of God). Women in Western Civ has had the most freedom and dignity ever allowed in any society—Non-Western societies never came close to the dignity that was taught through Christianity. And that dignity never existed in homosexual cultures which are sexist. Homosexuality is sexist. It is evil.

Dogs would probably be very insulted to find that they are being likened to humans. If they could understand it. Fortunately they don’t, and they just wag their tails no matter what you say about them.

I have nothing to back this up, just a strong gut feeling, but I think the Wednesday Chick-fil-A turnout is a sign of things to come in November. There is a quiet, simmering anger across America. Four years of Obama’s failed policies, world apology tours, high unemployment, skyrocketing prices, etc. are leading to a HUGE Republican turnout on election day.

Again, I have no proof, no scientific evidence. But I believe wholeheartedly that Obama is toast.

The North is still feeling their oats because they won the civil war. Even Republicans such as Peter King of New York, hate the idea of a party dominated by southerners. In England it is the opposite: people in the South think they are superior to those in the North..

We need to stick to our guns [can we still say that and not get shot at??] on this.

As I've said here before this isn't about gay marriage, or gay rights, or our side trying to deny their side their "rights."

The Chik-fil-A bruhaha is about one's right to believe what one wants, and to say what one believes. No matter how badly the media and the liberals and the organized gay establishment want to twist it into a gay issue, it's not!

When the root issue is viewed correctly and factually, in the light of what Mr. Cathy said in the interview, we're actually standing up for their right, along with ours, to believe as we believe and to say what we believe.

But as the discussion is going (even here on FR), our free speech and belief cause is being shanghaied and twisted and perverted into a direct attack on gays -- a fight to the finish over gay marriage, winner take all. We shouldn't let the other side redefine our basic point for us.

If we fight this on their terms, we're giving them the high ground in the eyes of half the country. They have a right to speak their mind, as we do. They have a right to their beliefs, as we do. They're trying hard to deny us those rights; that's where the fight is. Let's stick with the Constitution and keep the high ground.

We're right. Let's keep it that way.

Good grief, the perverts have attacked and assaulted our GOD given blessings and protection. Too bad it appears the majority are clueless that this nation under God is sticking a certain finger in the face of the CREATOR that had bestowed His blessings upon US.

I don't disagree with that. You're right.

But that's not the underlying issue in the CFA thing -- it's secondary, and much less important in context, in the big (constitutional and temporal) scheme of things. Dan Cathy is a Christian, and simply stated his Christian beliefs in an interview with a Christian publication.

He didn't attack anyone, or try to deny anyone their constitutional rights. That's the issue, and if we let the left convince folks that our principle point is that "the perverts have attacked and assaulted our GOD given blessings and protection," we're going to lose the issue with half the country. Don't help them do that.

Take a deep breath and think about it. Freedom of belief and speech are important whether the left or the right have the upper hand in the nation's politics. Tables turn in this country (and the world), and we don't know when He's coming back. Our job is to do what we can with what we have.

It's worth saying again. And again.

Various government officials, all of them liberal 'rats, wanted to abuse their positions of elective office "authority" to shut down or otherwise punish what they don't agree with.

That's part of the meme we need to consistently fire back with. Never fight an opponent on grounds of their own choosing, unless they can be brought to regret that choice. This issue, with the form it has taken, fits that qualification. Don't let it be about "gay" anything, until first it is driven home, firmly nailed down that it is primarily about freedom of speech, freedom of expression.

Re-establish freedom of speech, at the top as sacrosanct, then we regain lost ground so as to be able to more freely oppose that which we find heinous.

Free exercise of traditional religion is protected by the 1st Amendment also. This is a teachable moment, where we get to do the teaching.

When it comes to the likes of Rahm Emanual, give it to 'em good and hard. Take no prisoners. Do to them as they have long done to conservatives and traditionalists. Just make sure we make our shots, nothing but headshots. Go for the leadership. Don't get down in the gutter with the faggots and try to debate with them. Instead, put the 'Rat's down in the gutter with the fags who want to prohibit others God-given rights merely guaranteed by the Constitution.

Before you get to 'constitutional' rights expressed in written form there is that 'beginning' that certain unalienable rights come from the Creator... life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. There is NO life in perversion, and these perverts only have indecent liberties, and they sure as .ell are NOT happy. Personally, I know without doubt this nation was not the superpower of superpowers because we are the 'best' people, but because of DIVINE protection and blessings. I do not take that lightly and while my flesh life is most likely more than half over, I do love my children enough to stand against this evil that is spreading like diseases percolating in a sewer.
