Leading gay rights activist declares boycott on Amway for donation to anti-gay marriage group

UPDATE:> Amway makes no apologies for president Doug DeVos' 'private gift' to anti-gay marriage group

ADA, MI - A leading national gay rights activist announced he is launching on Amway boycott three years after the direct selling giant's president donated $500,000 to a conservative group that has worked to ban gay marriage.

LGBT rights activist Fred Karger says he is officially announcing the boycott of the Ada-based company and other DeVos family businesses including the Orlando Magic basketball team during a press conference this afternoon in Las Vegas.

Karger says he has obtained tax records that show Doug DeVos gave $500,000 to the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) Education Fund through his Douglas & Maria DeVos Foundation.

Karger called the gift "largest family donation to NOM in its history. Only the Catholic Church’s political arm the Knights of Columbus has given more to the ‘Hate Group’ NOM.”

The donation appears to have been made in 2009.

Fueled with large donations from the Catholic and the Mormon churches, the organization campaigned for Proposition 8 in California, a constitutional amendment to prohibit same sex marriage. The organizations supports similar efforts in other states.

"With four crucial gay marriage elections coming up on November 6 we feel that an Amway Boycott will send a message to Amway owners and other potential mega-donors that if you plan to give lots of money to anti-LGBT organizations like NOM or directly to the November anti-gay marriage campaigns we may well take action against you,” Karger said in a statement.

Yes. Just like with the human rights discrimination charges brought against CFA in Illinois: They are looking to be bank-rolled for their “pain”. In a class action suit, they could get mega millions. Robbers.

Privately held company. Rock ribbed conservative since 1959.

Alticor is the holding company, but the brand is still (or once again after the quixtar hiatus) Amway. Core line (produced by Amway) products are terrific and a good value. We built actively for about 5 years and still receive checks 15 years later. Just a distribution channel, nothing more or less. Some stuff good, some great, some not so good, just like at your local market. Amway, however, feels no need to hire PC compliance execs to pander to the left. Conservative, tolerant, thru and thru.

I have no interest in the products. I just know that the DeVos family are pretty good folks who do a lot of good with their own money in Michigan and Grand Rapids.

The Devos family were the primary source of funding for the Grand Rapids promotional video I posted upthread. In fact, I believe Dick DeVos appears at the 4 minute mark.

Good one. I’m still waiting for the homosexualist activist crowd to start boycotting gasoline since so much of the world’s oil comes from Islamic nations where they kill them.

Waiting...

Still waiting.......

here’s what I see happening. The next step is to boycott and/or sue churches for not performing gay “marriages”, pastors who refuse, and businesses such as Christian bookstores. The ultimate target isn’t gay rights but outright persecution of Christians.

BINGO!

They have done a lot of good with their money - built hospitals in Grand Rapids, built cultural centers, and brought business to GR. Not that anyone is obligated to donate their money to causes. This family has been very generous and GR and surrounding areas have benefited greatly from their philanthropy. The VanAndels, partner to DeVos as well. And the Meijer family has contributed as well.

Call me cynical.
Amway promoted this in an attempt to get a "support Amway" day...

I am glad to learn that your experience was (and still is) positive. I am planning on getting my own IBO and giving it a go. I have found the products to be of great quality. Been to a training session and was pleasantly surprised by the positive format and realistic income potential. Its not “big” in my area, so son (and I ) see the opportunity:)

“Seems like this is somebody who bottles up and sits on resentments until finally it bursts forth.”

Obama popped the cork when he “evolved” from being anti gay marriage to being supportive of gay marriage. That act was simply a granting of permission for the loony left to let loose the attack dogs.

AARRGGHHH, just read about a cake maker out in CO and how the homostapo are going after his store, I only wish he was near me so I can face these NAZI’s and lets see how tough thye want to get when they see someone who can fight back.

Also now this , they’re going after anyone who gives money , who stands for their rleigious beleifs, surely the President would come out and say people ahve a religious right, people follow all sorts of religions and he finds it sickening how just Christians are targeted but now muslims, Sikhs, Hindu’s Jews etc.

Oh wait silly me, we have a limp wristed girle boy as President, now is it any wonder why the homostapo are acting out.

these people are plain nuts.
They engage in fecal sex and then demand that theyhave special rights but say no to other kinds of marriage.

It shows that these people are acting like little brats and then to act out they engage in NAZI like tactics.
They get away with it too due to the media covering for them, it is high time we all demanded that talk =radio and pundits like Hannity who are cowardly now get a backbone and speak up about this.

then bring it on if they do.

We have a first amendment and it’s time for our side to speak up and I mean OUR SIDE, TALK RADIO, TV PUNDITS, send mail to them, send mail and call FOX news and other outlets, your local outlets and emand they cover this NAZI thuggery.

If people remain silent like the Jews did at first then it will get worse for this country and help their agenda.

my wife met a woman who had all these stcikers of queer marriage on her car.
My wife said to the woman that she was not married here, and that if she wanted to be having her sham marriage then go north to MA.

This woman could not comprehend the basic terms my wife was saying, all this woman could do was to act like a child , throw a tantrum, and say she is married.

No you’re not, this is FL, by law you are not married and that is what I do not get.
Why move here or elswhere and try to change the laws, try to make people feel sorry for them.

Ever noticed how homosexaul will always give a sob story to normal folks but when these same homosexuals are with teir own they act like NAZI’s and sadly we get people who say they have no problem with them because tey know a couple of them.?

There are three levels that I can identify. Once again, the left is manipulating the language to their benefit by using the “least aggressive” word while demanding the most aggressive result.

Tolerance
Acceptance
Approval

They are DEMANDING approval, while claiming they want “tolerance”.
