Gunmen killed at least 13 Egyptian border guards before smashing through the country's border with Israel in stolen armoured vehicles, Egyptian and Israeli officials said.
The Israeli military said the gunmen crossed into Israel near the Kerem Shalom (Karm Abu Salem) crossing after killing the guards on the Egyptian side of the border.
Spokeswoman Lieutenant Colonel Avital Leibovich said one of the vehicles was destroyed by a helicopter while the other exploded by itself.
Egyptian security and medical sources said at least 13 border guards had died on their side of the border when the gunmen, dressed in Bedouin clothing, opened fire.
... Sinai-based Islamist militants are believed to have been responsible for several rocket attacks against Israel, which also blamed them for a cross-border ambush last year that killed nine Israelis.

Note that the terrorists had no qualms about killing the Egyptian (presumably Moslem) military/border guards. Is this a leadup to full scale operations against the Army (the only barrier to a full-blown Islamist Egypt)?

I would say - yes, it is. And I think these militants are drawing energy and resources from their compatriots in Libya and Syria.

Perhaps in Hebrew it means peace crossing and in Arabic it means piece crossing?

Two comments: First, what was Romney thinking with that horrible, awkward gaffe of his? (/S) Second, Morsi will have to show if he is more Egyptian or more Muslim Brotherhood in reaction to this and similar incidents.
I rather doubt it. The typical MO of the blue helmets in such situations is to skeedaddle.

Sources in Israel are reporting that the other APC went over a landmine either on the Egyptian or Israeli side of that border. The other was taken out by the IAF. I hope there were many Jihadis all huddled together inside the APC when it was hit...
