Burn Down the Suburbs?

Not exactly, but Obama is already working to get rid of them.

By Stanley Kurtz

Editor’s Note: This article is adapted from Spreading the Wealth: How Obama is Robbing the Suburbs to Pay for the Citiesby Stanley Kurtzfrom Sentinel HC

President Obama is not a fan of America’s suburbs. Indeed, he intends to abolish them. With suburban voters set to be the swing constituency of the 2012 election, the administration’s plans for this segment of the electorate deserve scrutiny. Obama is a longtime supporter of “regionalism,” the idea that the suburbs should be folded into the cities, merging schools, housing, transportation, and above all taxation. To this end, the president has already put programs in place designed to push the country toward a sweeping social transformation in a possible second term. The goal: income equalization via a massive redistribution of suburban tax money to the cities.

Obama’s plans to undercut the political and economic independence of America’s suburbs reach back decades. The community organizers who trained him in the mid-1980s blamed the plight of cities on taxpayer “flight” to suburbia. Beginning in the mid-1990s, Obama’s mentors at the Gamaliel Foundation (a community-organizing network Obama helped found) formally dedicated their efforts to the budding fight against suburban “sprawl.” From his positions on the boards of a couple of left-leaning Chicago foundations, Obama channeled substantial financial support to these efforts. On entering politics, he served as a dedicated ally of his mentors’ anti-suburban activism.

The alliance endures. One of Obama’s original trainers, Mike Kruglik, has hived off a new organization called Building One America, which continues Gamaliel’s anti-suburban crusade under another name. Kruglik and his close allies, David Rusk and Myron Orfield, intellectual leaders of the “anti-sprawl” movement, have been quietly working with the Obama administration for years on an ambitious program of social reform.

I wasn't talking about the roots of socialist beliefs, it's a known fact that they have been implementing their agenda from the very beginning way back in middle of the last century, accelerating in the sixties.

I suppose you remember Le Courbousier?

While the dreams of the planners you cite were a 19th Century idea akin to the "company town," this specific plan to regulate suburbia out of existence was initiated into America pursuant to the Rio Summit Agenda 21 document signed by GHWB in 1992.

Mark's First Law of Politics: Nothing big and bad goes on for very long unless BOTH sides are dirty.

It’s not Obama. It’s what’s behind Obama. Obama has to go, but the major tools of the Left to accomplish their goals are the U.N., and a complicit establishment Political class in our government. Get rid of the U.N., and flush the Congressional bowl of the Left including the establishment RINO’s, and tear down the Leftist empire of unconstitutional Executive departments, and supporting bureaucracies, and the Left will have to come up with all new tools. Meanwhile we turn our Nation back into OUR Nation.

BLM, Forest Service and Park Service are some of the worst on this. Those organizations are filled with idiots that have no common sense and lawyers, but I repeat myself. Example is the fight over Tombstone’s water source. Another was the Biscuit fire in Northern California a few years ago. In a wilderness area from lightening and Fed refused to allow chain saws and motor vehicles to fight it. Destroy a 500,000 acres of timber. When they wanted to use helicopter with water buckets they had to treat the water first with Clorox (18 wheeler loads) because of a reported disease in the Port Orford Cedars (which were burning).

Sounds like something strait out of Myron Orfields Metropolitan Council in Minnesota.

That communist hack has been attempting this BS in Minneapolis for years.

I have been thinking of this issue since I read the article on Rush and listened to Levin’s show the other night.

I was trying to think of how these policies would be implemented. The only thing that I could imagine it that the old time-honored standby: let the vandals loose to loot and pillage the countryside. Withdraw law enforcement from the rural areas that these policies would be supported to depopulate the countryside.

Only wealthy with security (read standing armies) would be able to stay in the countryside. This is becomeing more and more like 18th and 19th century England when the lands men were run off and the lands reverted to the nobility and gentry.

We are paddling way backwards folks.

I agree. And they have money to make it happen if we let them.

“Fortunately Obama has no such power to merge anything with anything.”

Can’t he just do it with an Executive Order?
That seems to be his MOO lately.
Constitution be damned.
And I’m sure Roberts will back him if anything goes to the SCOTUS.

Exactly what I was thinking. Those are local level and state decisions. I’d like to see him try that with the Southeast Houston suburbs.... Lol. I took my homeschooled 12 year old to the local outwent to the counter to check out like 6 books or so...They were ALL about guns. He loves them. I thought nothing of his selections until he set them on the counter and I had a little moment of uh oh, will this woman freak out and scold him or flag his name for future reference? But, silly me, I’m in Texas. I should have known better. She (about 70ish) got so excited, telling him how great one of the books were and then told him all about how she loved to go to the firing range, etc. Hahaha.... She told him next he came back she could show him some more really good books on guns. That’s when I knew there is hope in the world after all...

“I really can’t stand people with big ideas on how to make “society” (us) better.”

I feel exactly the same way. They got it all figured out. Where you live, when you get up, your morning exercise and hygiene, what you wear, what you have for breakfast, where you work, how you get there, lunch, dinner, your evening news briefing and entertainment, how and when you have sex, and when you go to bed. All planned. By masterminds. Life is just one long luxury cruise. Except you can never get off the ship.

Watch for cultures and groups within the country who are independent and self reliant to come under scrutiny and attack. this is especially true if they answer to a higher authority than human government authority. Mormons, Amish, and some other groups come to mind.

I have come to the conclusion that the suburbs may be the safest place to be if and when SHTF. That is, an organized suburban neighborhood with a good communication system in place. I can see where a cul-de-sac in a nice area where all the residents on the street are working together could be ideal.

I used to have the romantic vision of a secluded place in the boonies somewhere. That is naive of me, I now realize.

If you want to kill the suburbs, move all the subsidized housing projects to them.

That is exactly what California Welfare does. Why live in the cities where the cost of living is higher, when you can move to the Rural areas and live where people go to retire. Now in the ski resorts areas, California has crack head slums being supported by the dole. Then they closed logging and mining and farming off. Instant collapse of the rural areas. Once higher than average employment, now 40% unemployed. You want to work for a living move to the city, you want to retire on drugs, get welfare and move to the country.
