OAK CREEK, Wis. (CBSDC/AP) — Authorities tell CBS News that the shooter behind the deadly massacre at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin Sunday has been identified as 40-year-old Wade Michael Page.
Page previously served in the U.S. military, but was no longer on active duty, sources tell CBS News.
CBS News reports that Page enlisted in the Army in April 1992 and was given a less-than-honorable discharge in October 1998. He was last stationed in Fort Bragg, N.C., serving in the psychological operations unit.
The Southern Poverty Law Center told the Associated Press that Page was a musician in white power bands whose lyrics express hate against minorities and ethnic groups.
Mark Potok, spokesperson for the Southern Poverty Law Center, said Monday that Page had been on the white power music scene for more than a decade in bands including Definite Hate and End Apathy.

I read here on FR that Homeland Security has been classifying returning vets as potential terrorist threats.
Exaggerating the significance of his long ago (dishonorable) service is part of the continuing political effort to marginalize all vets by attempting to characterize them as extremists.
Also, military benefits are under attack, and taking every opportunity to paint vets in a bad light helps to reduce the public sympathy level regarding the benefit:service bait and switch that Obama and the democrats are trying to engineer.
