Choosing not to eat at Chick-fil-A (or choosing to eat there, as millions did last week) because of the ownership's views on gay marriage is one thing, but calling for their business partners to disown them is a little different. I am not opposed to boycotts, or buy-cotts like the one that occured last Wednesday, although I often question their legitimacy. I am opposed to bullying from political officials and activist groups trying to drive companies out of business through coercion, as Equality Illinois' director of public policy proposes:
In a petition, Equality Illinois is urging socially responsible business and institutional leaders across the country to challenge Chick-fil-A's discriminatory practices and end all relationships that enable the Chick-fil-A brand to operate on their premises.First off, nothing Chick-fil-A does is discriminatory. Giving money to groups that support traditional marriage, including some that are incredibly active and deemed by some as radical, does not mean the restaurant discriminates. It also does not ostracize, as the editorial claims. They wait on, serve and even employ homosexual employees. That's not discrimination.We urge mall owners who rent space to Chick-fil-A to look deeply at the hateful organizations the company supports. We ask university officials to reconsider accommodating a business that ostracizes a large segment of their student body. Secondly, should businesses really make determinations based on the ownership's social and religious views as opposed to the economic impact? Does Randy Hannig (the author) not realize the incredible economic damage he is calling for by wanting to tank a large enterprise like Chick-fil-A? Luckily for the chain, Hannig's group is unlikely to make even a tiny dent in their business. I've been to Chick-fil-A near here since Wednesday, and passed it multiple times, and the lines are still longer than normal.
If gay "rights" activists want to make a splash, maybe they should focus on convincing more Americans to embrace their views, rather than act like a bunch of politically intolerant school children who cry "bigot" any time someone holds a contrarian view. They may move the needle on the issue more than petitioning companies to throw away cash by cutting out a viable business partner.
Can a person or corporation sue another citizen/corporation for calling on others to discriminate against them for exercising their first amendment rights?

Daughter just called from Indy & was going to try Chick-fil-A for lunch but the line was so long she had to go elsewhere. She didn’t have time to wait.
These people have been on a massive ego kick ever since they successfully ran Dr. Laura off of TV. Getting Cracker Barrel to cave on their no gays policy only emboldened them more.
They are not going away. After being humiliated like this they are going to double-down and start scouring the countryside for little “gotchas” to try and take down this company.
If I were Mr. Cathy I would start coming up with an alternate business plan for any of my stores which were located on college campuses where they required any kind of support from university administrators. That is the weakest link, and Queer Nation will go right after it.

What I see more is Americans starting to take America back. Just look at what happened last week when there were very very long. There may be battles lost, but the war is being won.
Just voted “strongly disagree” at the bottom of the article, and that choice is running at 79% with well one 4000 votes tallied. Not that it’ll make a huge difference, but Mr. Brown should know where he stands with the public.
We only started going to Chik-Fil-A since a new one came to the town fairly near us. From now on, it will be first choice whenever we’re in that town.

Ummm, sorry Charlie. They do not pracitce discriminate in anyway shape or form. They sell to gays, they hire gays. It is not discrimination, nor a practice of discrimination, to state you support traditionally defined marriage as that being between 1 man & 1 woman. It's called the 1st Amendment. Get used to it, just like we have to tolerate your right to show support for gay/lesbian marriage.

Homosexuals have worked long and hard to achieve equality. This flap over the chicken place lets us know what they do with that equality.
The weak link for the other side when it comes to CFAs presence on campuses are the alumni.
My wife is an alumnae of a good sized, fairly Liberal, public university. That Thurs/Friday the Univ. President issued a statement saying that he and his administration were reviewing the contracts with CFA, strongly inferring that hecwas doing so with an eye to throwing them off.
The alumni discussion groups and FB pages went berserk with threats to cut off donations. By Monday the univ pres had managed to discover a little thing called the “1st Amendment” and publically backed down.

I don’t think that’s going to work this time.
All it will do is garner more sympathy for the poor, oppressed collection of Leftist pets like the Occutards, Sodomites, Moslems and all the other special interest groups under the wing of the International Left.
In fact, it might even invite “intervention” by UN troops. I don’t think we want those guys on our soil. As they have shown in other parts of the world, not only are many of them soulless torturers and killers, but they are also immune from prosecution.
CEO, Dan Cathy is guilty of having the courage to express his values. Those without values or courage hate him for it. They are acting like spoiled children demanding others change their values and accept their life style.
What “practices”? If they are discriminating in either hiring or serving anyone, that’s legally actionable. But they aren’t. The CEO just spoke his mind. This is insane.

I think that standing up to fascism is a commendable trait, and I will back Chick-fil-A 100% in this. I realize that I don't speak for all, but judging from the size of the crowd on Wednesday versus the stragglers protesting Friday, Chick-Fil-A stands with the vast majority of Americans.
Excellent victory story! I wish I could be as confident in all alumni standing up to these sorts of actions.
I went to Chick-fil-A today. It was packed. I intend to keep going as long as this “boycott” of free speech continues. I hope to see these “equality” groups go broke.
