Wisconsin shooter Wade Michael Page used a Springfield 9mm semiautomatic handgun to carry out the attack at a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, officials said. As in several other recent mass shootings, the gun had been purchased legally, at a Milwaukee-area gun store called the Shooter Shop.
"There is no valid reason for civilians to have assault rifles, semiautomatic handguns and high-capacity magazines," he said. "We have to start ratcheting down the firepower in civilian hands in the United States."

Who is the “Spearman” mentioned in the article?
As soon as those sorry pitiful cowardly politicians give up their armed protection and the equally pathetic Hollywood elites do the same, I am keeping my arsenal.

well just look to Chicago and the fine job our Community organizer president has done to find out how great gun control works. Works find for mafia and gangs.Lets all just be at the mercy of the scum of the earth.
Does not say who “Spearman” is, in the rush by Reuters to print the horrors of a Springfield Armory 9mm and those evil “high capacity” magazines.
'nuff said.
> “There is no valid reason for civilians to have assault
> rifles, semiautomatic handguns and high-capacity
> magazines,”
How ironic.
Nobody could have articulated the reason better than this elitist pig who probably has heavily armed bodygards.
What a coincidence that DHS and local LEOs are up-armoring while the mouthpieces of Mordor clamor for disarming the riff-raff.
Josh Sugarmann is the executive director and founder of the Violence Policy Center (VPC). Prior to founding the VPC, Sugarmann was a press officer in the national office of Amnesty International USA and was the communications director for the National Coalition to Ban Handguns.
He is reported to be the guy who launched the idea of using the term "assault weapon" to confuse the public and attack the rights of citizens to own semiautomatic rifles.
"Assault weaponsjust like armor-piercing bullets, machine guns, and plastic firearmsare a new topic. The weapons' menacing looks, coupled with the public's confusion over fully automatic machine guns versus semi-automatic assault weaponsanything that looks like a machine gun is assumed to be a machine guncan only increase the chance of public support for restrictions on these weapons. In addition, few people can envision a practical use for these weapons."

AHHHH!
Springfield!
Own one, hope to have another.
And another..
And another...
The XDm 45 4.5 inch bitone is my EDC.
Shoots straight as a laser.
Technological advances will come soon when it won’t be about magazines or bullets but power packs and lasers.
Then what? Regulate everyone back to the stone age?

My reason is that I will be able to defend myself when other people decide that I'm expendable. FMCDH
I wish someone would just publish a guide so I can tell the good guns from the evil guns. That would be so handy.
</sarcasm>
That makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.
Guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns,.....yakitayakitayak.
I don’t give a ratz behind about the GUNZ.
I want to know: WHO WAS HIS SHRINK AND WHAT MEDS WAS HE JACKED UP ON?
Until the focus shifts, the direction is lost.
FU Wisconsin “officials”! Come and get’em!
I love my Springfield XD9...”ONE” of my favorites
Beat me to it. But if it had been an "Evil Glock" it would never have taken so long to publish the gun manufacture.
There is no valid reason for journalists to have direct access to the internet, television, radio and the printing press before their stories can be thoroughly checked by a gov’t authority first.
Those “Gun Buy Back” operations hosted by various police agencies have been reported (not by the media or govt. ) to have failed. There was a Dept of Justice report on it. Those programs don’t work. Just like gun control doesn’t work.
There are trying to take a tool used away to prevent the crime - instead of looking at the root of where the criminal took the path that ultimately brought him to the decision to commit to it. Of course that take a time and effort, it’s far easier to confiscate guns from everyone to make it seem that everyone is safer.
Then again, I used to be in law , a trooper - and there were physical fitness standards to be maintained - just like the military - now a days - about every officer I see is overweight except for a few. They are suppose to protect us when we are left unarmed???
Wisconsin Sikh Temple handgun identified — discussion
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin inteest ping list.
Governments, primarily socialist/Communist governments, murdered 200,000,000 of their own citizens in the past hundred years, and gun control was always the first step.
Yep, XDM’s are very nice handguns.
Lawmakers in Hartford CT proposed making mere posession of "high capacity" magazines a felony and hundreds testified against it for over 12 hours. The bill died as it should in committee.
Even with a quick response by police in this case and in Aurora, when seconds counted police were only minutes away. Though from what I understand about Sikhs, they would not be likely to be carrying weapons.
Get a "Journalism Permit" and have a background check on each story before it's printed, after filling out state and federal forms.
Depending on which state you reside in, your article may require a 2 week "cooling down" period, may require a supplemental permit to take it home, or limit you to one printed article per month (no "high capacity" assault journalism).
Even King George III thought so, but it didn't work out so well for his soldiers at Lexington & Concord.
Fixating on the semi-automatic firing mechanism makes about as much sense as saying that most drunk drivers prefer automatic transmissions. I imagine the popularity of semi-auto handguns versus revolvers is pretty similar to the ratio of automatic to manual transmissions on the road. It’s just what most buyers prefer now.

Glocks ARE evil, because the damned trigger guard won't accommodate my fingertip very well.
Indeed, if civilians are not to have repeating weaopons, why would the police require them?
"This allows the shooter to fire the maximum number of bullets in a short period of time, said Josh Sugarmann, executive director of the Violence Policy Center, a nonprofit group that advocates to reduce gun violence."
I completely understand your anger, but which “officials” would those be? The quote wasn’t stated by a Wisconsin official, but an anti-gun nut - and they didn’t even attribute the quote correctly... Just Sayin’...
[Not that it isn’t bad enough that there are actually people living among us that don’t understand WHY lawful citizens NEED guns for protection... Wisconsin has better gun laws than many other places, and a well-armed citizenry to boot - even if a great many are only armed with hunting rifles and the like...]
bttt
That other handgun that remained "in his car" -- plus hundreds of thousands of others under the control of responsible owners -- hurt and killed no one!

(Most liberals are able to comprehend the truth of the above; but, their overwhelming thirst for control demands that they ignore it...)
Silly, childish stuff; if semi-automatic weapons were outlawed, then criminals would use revolvers.
If all firearms were outlawed, criminals would use knives.
If knives were outlawed... and on and on into an infinity of pre-adolescent ruminations of the sort that has brought no one any safety - as we see only too clearly by examination of overseas nations.
Moreover, criminals intent on mischief would always find sophisticated weaponry on the black market - stolen from police and National Guard armories.
Mass slayings by those previously considered sane, meanwhile, would continue with other deadly implements, only to lead to a society in which every chef in every restaurant from coast to coast would have to be registered in order to purchase a knife.
Children, meanwhile, would be forced to give up the sport of baseball for fear of baseball bats.
A nation cannot live on its knees simply because the fact of the matter is that some of its members go insane from time to time, and we are reminded that many of the worst mass slayings in world history are recorded much before the invention of firearms.
Indeed, it could well be argued that firearms in the hands of private citizens have PREVENTED a good many of the excesses of violence witnessed in the Middle Ages.
A philosophical question. Since the guns I like best are glocks and springfield xd’s, which are both “evil”, what gun should I carry?

Something with a caliber larger than 9mm.
The leader of the temple could have used more firepower. Taking on the shooter with a knife had a predictable outcome.
And the blood dancing builds to a frenzy. The three sources quoted in this article were the VPC, the Brady Campaign, and the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence. It’s a little like doing a story on the invasion of Poland and quoting Hitler, Goebbels, and Goering.
Neither, carry an XDM ;)
