Should Romney demand that Obama release his college records in exchange for tax returns?
Hot Air ^ | AUGUST 7, 2012 | Ed Morrissey

Posted on 08/07/2012 10:46:53 AM PDT by RobinMasters

That’s the suggestion from former Libertarian Party VP candidate Wayne Allen Root, who graduated in the same disciplines as Barack Obama at the same time (1983) from the same college, Columbia University. If Harry Reid wants to play the “there must be something scary in those records” game, why not challenge Obama by offering to release 10 years of tax returns if Obama will release 10 years of college records?

I would suggest that whenever the tax return question comes up, the reply should be to bring up the Fast and Furious documents that are being witheld.

Nobody has died as a result of Romney’s tax returns to the best of my knowledge.

No need to up the game just yet.

Reid is being hung out to dry, FUBAR-ing the issue for the Democrats.

If Obama and crew tries to take it up a notch, then that’s when you light that bomb.

I don't think he should. Zero would just hem and haw and (maybe) eventually produce Photoshop'd "copies" of his data; IOW, he'd fake them, too! Then Romney would have to release his data, which the Zero team would pick over and super-hype any questionable item - with which the Obama Media Team (the "news" media) would then saturate the airwaves and print media.

Romney should just point out the hypocrisy of it all: demanding the data of others while hiding your own, and even mention what they would do with it if they got it!

What’s the game here?

Since he’s the incumbent, “O’s” college ‘records’ were supposed to be public informationa long time ago.

He should also dare Reid to step out of the Senate (where he has immunity) and repeat his accusations. Romney would then have a court case, but I don't think Reid is that stupid.

“why not challenge Obama by offering to release 10 years of tax returns if Obama will release 10 years of college records?”

That is how you fall into a trap when dealing with thugs. As soon as you assume you can make a deal with them they have won. You agree to do something with the intention of keeping your word. They agree with the intention of lying and “outsmarting” you.

Republicans should demand Obama release his education records and all other records that he has sealed and hidden from the public. They should be forceful and not give in. They should not agree to anything in return.

I got an idea, comply with the law! If the elections law require the candidate to release tax returns, then do it. If the elections law requires proof of citizenship, then do it. This is very very easy.

FTA:

The problem for Romney in this kind of strategy is that it will serve as a distraction from his central premise: that Obama’s record as President shows that his policies have failed, and that the US needs new leadership, especially on the economy. Even if he did adopt this strategy, the Obama campaign has Harry Reid playing Tail Gunner Joe on this issue, keeping a safe distance from the mud-slinging.

Looks like Mittens has solved this problem, he's letting Trump do the job.

Nah, Romney should simply release his tax returns with all the numbers redacted, just the signature and the date visible.

I don’t think Romney should release any more tax returns than he already has. If he pushed for an “exchange” there is no guarantee that the college records provided by Obama wouldn’t be poorly created forgeries, anyway. Nothing would be gained.

I’m a Columbia alum as well and I know that Columbia doesn’t accept transfers from colleges like Occidental without special reasons.

I’m betting that his application was made and Furthergranted on the basis of his claim to be a “foreign born” student. Clolumbia loves diversity in the student body and this would account for the approval of his application.

Further, there is an indication in his life story that Percy Sutton, a well-knowN black politician in NYC who wass also Malcolm X’s attorney was his sponsor. How does a guy from Hawaii get support from a radical pol from NYC unless it was through radical connections such as FRank Marshal Davis, the Communist or Bill Ayers the radical Weatherman?

Obama/Dims would love to have this entire campaign talk about something other than the economy, Romney’s plans and O’s failures. This is a distraction. It’s the economy stupid (really is this time).

I’ll repeat what I said on another thread - no way should Romney release his returns. The way the donkeys are pushing this, I expect they have already accessed his files illegally from the IRS (remember Craig Livingstone and the FBI files? remember the rifling through passport files prior to the 2008 elections?). That’s the whole modus operandi of Obama’s election team - get some personal information, and beat the hell out of your opponent (just ask Jack Ryan in Illinois).

And if they’ve seen Romney’s return, I expect they’ve picked out some ambiguous item on some return, and have figured it how to twist it into a pseudo-scandal. And I’d be willing to bet they’ve got outlines of TV ads ready to go and strategies to prime the MSM into a feeding frenzy, just as soon as they get cover on their actions by release of those records.

What Romney SHOULD do is state that he’ll prove he’s paid ten years of taxes if BO releases the stuff he’s hiding. And if Obama actually *did* release transcripts and the like (fat chance), all Romney would have to do is release copies of cancelled checks to the IRS - and I’d black out the amounts on those (since how much he paid is nobody’s damn business, least of all Harry Reid’s).

BTW, I think that Romney should SEAL his Federal and State Tax Records.

None of Obama's records are public. From birth through his Illinois senate votes - zip, zero, nada. Except for a couple forged documents, of course.

There's several lists out there of all we don't know/have never seen ... From memory its kindergarten, elementary, high school, college, and graduate education records, passport issuance, travel, law license surrender, state senate votes, plus he may have 20 or more social security numbers, etc., etc.

Also somewhere along the line his surname has gone from Obama to Dunham to Soetero and back to Obama and he attended an Indonesian school that listed him as a citizen and a muslim. There's probably others but I'm not an expert.

He's spent millions locking up and hiding ALL these records, not just his BC.

I wonder what he's hiding? Maybe Harry Reid will demand answers! ;-)

“No need to up the game just yet.”

I agree with you. Most of the people are not focused on the campaign. Romney isn’t even officially the Republican candidate. Romney should be pounding away on:
1) Unemployment. Don’t talk about the unemployment rate. Talk about the fact fewer people are employed today than when he supposedly ended the recession in 2009. Keep asking - Where are the jobs Mr. Obama?
2) Low interest rates penalizing savers. Many swing voters are baby boomers who are worried about retirement. Plus seniors have been killed by Bernanke suppressing interest rates
3) Failed economic policies and outrageous deficits
4) Decline of the dollar and American prestige
5) Obamacare
6) Corruption and waste - Solyndra

Everything else is a distraction. Stay on message and pound away at the dismal performance of Obama. Make him and the misery he has caused the issue.

Words matter as well. Romney should never refer to him as “the President”. Call him Mr. Obama. Clinton did this to George H.W. Bush. Pretend to show him respect by calling him “Mr.”, but don’t give him the respect of the office by acknowledging him as the occupant of the office. It will drive him nuts, particularly during the debates. Remember how Obama kept calling McCain “John” while McCain called him Mr. Obama?

Words matter as well. Romney should never refer to him as “the President”. Call him “Mr. Obama.” Romney’s mouthpieces should occasionally call him “King Barack” when he does something dictatorial. Clinton used this same technique with George H.W. Bush in the 1992 debates. Pretended to show him respect by calling him “Mr. Bush”, but didn’t give him the respect of the office by acknowledging him as “President Bush”. Doing this to Obama will drive him nuts, particularly during the debates. Remember how in the 2008 debates Obama kept calling McCain “John” while McCain called him Mr. Obama? Likely Obama will show the same lack of respect to Romney in this year’s debates and Romney should be ready.

A should be:

Romney;

“As soon as Pre-sent Obama rescinds the Executive Order he issued on the first day of his administration, that is, the most important issue for his ‘hope and change’, ‘transparent administration’, which sealed any and all of any information pertaining to the past 47 years of his life, since his birth;
so that the media, the citizens, the law, the scholars, could never view any of his past;
only then will my past tax records become public!”
