Joe Soptic, the man blaming Romney for wife’s death, is a familiar face on the anti-Romney beat
The Examiner ^ | 8/7/2012 | Charlie Spiering

Former steel worker Joe Soptic has resurfaced in a new pro-Obama Super-PAC ad, blaming Romney for his wife’s death from cancer.

“I do not think Mitt Romney realizes what he’s done to anyone,” Soptic says in the ad. “And furthermore I do not think Mitt Romney is concerned.”

But Soptic is actually a familiar face on the anti-Bain beat, and accused Romney of this before.

Soptic was featured in an Obama ad in May, who explained that although he wasn’t “rich” he was able to put his daughter through college.

In January, Soptic complained to Democracy Now, a liberal non-profit TV station, that when the steel company he worked for was bought out by Bain, they tried to buy out his job.

“I guess the first thing I noticed that when the company was bought out by GST, They became very union non-friendly, they started looking for ways to eliminate jobs,” Soptic said.

Joe Soptic is a POS! Joe killed his wife by not getting her health insurance over 5 years after his job site closed down then has the nerve to blame Romney who hadn't been involved in the plant in over 7 years.

What kind of gratuity is he receiving for appearing in the ad?

Was he working in the steel mill that was failing when Bain bought it and kept it open trying to turn it around?

So he was union? Where was the union taking care of him like they promise? And what job did he hold from 2001 when he was laid off until 2006 when his wife died?

Time do do some archive news searching.

Charles Bradford, an analyst at Bradford Research, blames the union, in part, for the failure of GS Industries to survive in the new global marketplace.

"If you look at the steel companies that went under at the time, all of them were unionized," he said. "I'm not saying this was the only factor -- these firms faced other headwinds such as cheap labor and a strong dollar ... but the unions held them back."

Union officials blame the Bain managers for saddling the company with too much debt for a capital-intensive, cyclical industry such as steel.

Democrats ALWAYS blame someone else for their stupidity, lack of effort, lack of self-respect, etc., etc.

The trouble is, Lawyers jump on any opportunity where deep pockets exist, to claim "negligence" or "cause/effect" bullshit, and their buddies on the Bench (former Lawyer co-horts) Rule in their favor.....

We need a do-over, BAD.

Good find. Joe not only killed his wife, he killed her by denying her the right to use her own insurance.

Folks, no one, no one in this country is refused medical care, even if they cannot afford it. Joe Soptic is the killer of his wife, no one else. People who lose their jobs are covered by COBRA for at least eighteen months. I have lost jobs before, but.....as the head of the household, I always made sure we had the medical insurance to cover severe illness or injury by taking odd jobs and leaning on family for help to get by and protect all of our family. And....I returned the favor, when other family members fell on hard times. That’s the American way!!!

But....even if this low life Democrat, Joe Soptic had no insurance, his wife would not have been refused treament for her cancer, no matter when it was found. And....how come no complaints about Obama and the Democrat Party that have caused millions of Americans, union members and management, to lose their jobs, their medical care and their pensions. America, wake up, Obama and his Democrat henchmen are no friends of the American public. Wise up!!!

Geez, what a whiny beotch!

According to Mr. Soptic, his wife received her primary insurance through her employer – a local thrift store called Savers – and retained it even after his layoff. Soptic's policy through GST Steel was her secondary coverage. In 2002, Mitt Romney formally left Bain. Sometime in 2002 or 2003, Mr. Soptic says his wife injured her rotator cuff and was forced to leave her job. As a result she lost her health insurance coverage and Mr. Soptic's new job as a janitor did not provide coverage for his spouse.

My wife's father cut lawns and did handywork as a one man operation for a living, her mother worked as a seamstress. They were never provided health insurance and even without having two nickles to rub together and living in a very small frame house that her father built, they made sure they had health insurance paid for out of their pockets.

I had rotator cuff surgery on a Wednesday late afternoon around 2004/2005. I was at therapy on Friday morning and back to work as a CAD operator the following Monday. I could have taken a longer medical leave on my own insurance and did not even try to use my wife's as a secondary. It was my right rotator and I am right handed. Mr. Soptic is a vile SOB and I would tell him to his face that their self induced dependency on unions and government is at the root of their lot in life. He gambled and lost. What a friggin pansy.

I lost my best friend to cancer 5 years ago. He had good insurance. He was active and athletic. He took good care of himself and had regular checkups. He started having severe headaches which his doctors were unable to relieve. After a series of tests he was diagnosed with lung cancer (he was a non-smoker) and received the best treatment available. He was gone in less than 3 months.
My point? Even if she had the best insurance possible available to her, Mr. Soptic's wife may have lost her battle with cancer anyway. There are no guarantees in life.

Very illuminating article here:
"4: If you look at the steel companies that went under at the time, all of them were unionized," he said. "I'm not saying this was the only factor -- these firms faced other headwinds such as cheap labor and a strong dollar ... but the unions held them back."

"5: For Joe Soptic, who worked at the plant for 28 years, that meant a loss of $283 per month, about 22 percent of his pension."

"6: After nearly 30 years as a steelworker, Joe Soptic found a job as a school custodian. The $24,000 salary was roughly one-third of his former pay"
...
#4 Seems strange. Unionized steel companies all went bankrupt when faced with increased foregin competition, but NOT non-unionized? Let's read below to see if we can solve the mystery.

Well let's see here. For #5, Joe Soptic, he lost $283/month in his pension, which was a 22% decrease. So, what was it before? 22% of x = $283, so x=a monthly pension of $1286. I checked what the AVERAGE pension was for private sector workers here: it's $641 (avg pension of $7692/year). So these guys are getting DOUBLE (!!) the pension of the average private-sector worker. Well how about their wages?

For #6: Joe was making $24k, which was 1/3 of his former pay. That means he was making $72,000 as a steelworker. How does that compare? I checked here at the BLS. Result? Supervisors at steel mills get $28/hr, about $44,000 / year. Really? These guys are making $72,000 a year when the HIGHEST PAID in the steel industry is $44,000 / year.

So, John Hawkins in his blog is railing on Romney as the bailout king. He should REALLY be THANKING Romney for trying to turn GS Technologies around and save the company, by working for 10 years with little to show for it, because HIGH UNION WAGES AND PENSIONS ballooned the company's debt levels and made them UN-prepared to face competition.

That should be the REAL story; that Bain, that actually made "an average annual return on investment of 88 percent between its founding in 1984 and the end of 1999" (88% return? Great job, Mitt!) tried to help out GS."

If Mitt doesn’t bring this out in an ad (that this guy is a “professional” DNC ad actor), he doesn’t have sense enough to be president. This is magnitudes worse than even what Reid is doing.

Further...this guy came up with the money to put his daughter through college, but couldn’t take care of his wife? (Of course, free college is on the agenda for 0’s second term, if he waits that long)

If she injured her rotator cuff on the job, it’s an industrial injury. Why didn’t she go back to work?? If off the job, she had coverage to get it repaired and likely continue to work. Of course, the may be other circumstances but this is a fraudulent story on several counts.

Its because I decided that was a priority and got him an individual policy. If I can do this at age 19, still a child according to the government, while making minimum wage, this person could have done so as well, had he wanted to or had any motivation to do so. Absolutely. I’m sure he got a severance package too. Better than coming in one day and the doors are locked with no notice or severance.

One thing that hasn’t been brought up is COBRA laws. Under COBRA, he may have been able to continue his health insurance on his own dime.

Cross posting from other threads, because I think this bears repeating ...

As disgusting as this ad is, it is also very much indicative of how the Obama Campaign is viewing the political landscape right now.

This is an ad designed not to boost Obama’s own base, or to flip moderates/independents over to him. It’s designed, explicitly, to suppress the white blue-collar/working-class voters that will either hold their nose and vote for Romney, or stay home.

It means they think they’ve topped out in terms of their own numbers, and now need to pursue other means to get to victory.

My Father In Law is remarried. His Wife was just diagnosed with Lung and Kidney Cancer.

She had a slight cough that was blamed on Allergies, so her MD gave her a prescription based on that prognosis.
A month later, the cough got a little worse, so her MD sent her for an X Ray. They spotted something on her Lung and Kidney. Off to get an MRI, then a biopsy.

My point is simply that both my F-I-L and his Wife have Health Care Coverage through Medicare and their Supplemental Policy. They also take good care of themselves, no smoking, drinking and they always eat Healthy Foods. Regular Doctor visits are a must.

I don't remember them ever eating Fast Food, and I've known them for 30 years. They have always been that way, yet his Wife has Cancer. Life isn't fair, but it beats the alternative.

This LIAR attacking Romney by using his dead Wife is just a typical Liberal who blames everything bad that happens in life on someone else. I'm sure he is one of those who cusses God and Republicans when he hits a Red Light when driving to an Obama Rally.

BTW - My F-I-Law’s Wife is taking a very strong Oral Chemo Medication (the name escapes me at the moment) that was developed and put into the market just a couple of years ago. You know, something that Evil Big Pharma developed using their obscene Windfall Profits.

The Drug is keeping people alive who would be long dead without it. It isn't a cure, but it is a lifeline. We live in amazing times, and I say that as a Leukemia Patient myself who has benefited from the work of many dedicated Health Care Professionals.
