Skip to comments. No More Boring White Guys for the GOP

"A friend of mine, a Hispanic entrepreneur, asked me a question some time ago. He said, 'When is the last time you saw a Hispanic panhandler?' I think it's a great question. I'll tell you, in my life I never once have seen a Hispanic panhandler, because in our community it would be viewed as shameful to be out on the street begging."
That was Republican U.S. Senate candidate Ted Cruz of Texas on "Fox News Sunday." He went on to make the case that Latinos are culturally conservative and economically entrepreneurial.
Just for the record, I've seen a Latino panhandler or two. Or at least I think they were Latino -- I don't usually quiz panhandlers about their ethnic backgrounds.
But Cruz is right that there do seem to be fewer Latino beggars than other ethnicities (though in my experience, Asian-Americans are the biggest shirkers when it comes to creating an ethnically diverse lumpenproletariat), and I think Cruz's pride in this fact is refreshing -- and helpful.
I've been saying for a while now that this is the last presidential election in American history where the GOP will benefit from having a boring white guy as the presidential nominee.
This is not a point about racial animosity toward Barack Obama, perhaps the most exaggerated issue of the last four years. The key, as it relates to 2012, is not the white part of that formulation, it's the boring part. The operatic nature of Obama's campaign in 2008 and his inability to live up to the expectations he set for himself have created a market for bland Mr. Fixit types.
But going forward, the GOP needs to figure out a way to become more appealing to new constituencies, particularly younger voters and Latinos.
Boring white guys aren't great for that project. But candidates like Ted Cruz are.
It's hardly a novel insight that the GOP needs to deal with America's changing demographics. Inside the Beltway, the conventional explanation for how Republicans should do that tends to boil down to pandering and capitulation. For instance, Hispanics care about immigration, we're told, therefore Republicans should adopt the same policies as the Democrats.
The substance of those policies aside, there are political problems with this thinking. First, Republicans rarely if ever win such bidding wars.
Second, there's a faulty assumption here: that various ethnicities, and young people generally, are both monolithic and hardwired to support certain policies and are therefore immune to persuasion.
But young people almost by definition believe in things they eventually grow out of. The same goes for Latino voters, who are not monolithic in almost any sense: racially, ethnically, religiously or ideologically.
For instance, contrary to much of what you've heard in the press, the Latino vote in the United States has been growing less Democratic over the last 30 years, according to Sean Trende, the senior elections analyst for RealClearPolitics.com. Moreover, illegal immigration is nowhere near as important an issue for Latinos (as opposed to Latino activists) as the press makes it seem. In 2008, less than half (46 percent) of Latino voters who voted Democratic told exist pollsters that the issue was either "very" or "extremely" important to them. And nearly a third of Latinos who considered illegal immigration "very" or "extremely" important voted Republican.
Trende argues that most of the Democratic advantage among Latinos can be explained by income. Poor people tend to vote Democratic. There are a lot of poor Latinos in the U.S. Still, if you control for income, the Latino voter becomes less distinct from the average voter.
In short, Latinos lean decidedly Democratic, but they are decidedly persuadable as well. And young politicians like Cruz -- and Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, also of Cuban descent -- have a better shot at persuading them.
White Republican politicians tend to be terrified of racial and ethnic activists and the journalists who empower them. This results in many GOP pols sounding condescending, pandering or dull when they try to reach out to minorities.
Young, energetic, whip-smart and philosophically coherent politicians like Cruz and Rubio can confidently appeal to Latinos without sounding condescending and without caving to liberal assumptions about how to win over Latinos. They're also harder to demonize.
I mean, just imagine if Romney had mused about the nation's dearth of Hispanic panhandlers.
What's to appeal to? Latinos? I thought we were all the same?
They got scams up the kazoo: numerous latino identity brokers are selling fake driver's licenses, passports, EITC applications----two Texas latinos travel the US setting up "one-stop shops" in motels using highly sophisticated tech to mfg a myriad of fake US documents which "impoverished" illegals buy for several thousand dollars----including birth certificates, Social Security cards, driver's licenses----for any state in the US------ passports and resident alien cards.
At one point, the US State Dept would not accept passports from a NJ passport office (run by a latino) b/c they were mostly fraudulent.
Cruz is an anamoly----firstly he's Cuban latino----they are typically more conservative and self sustaining than other latinos. Significantly, most of the Cubans here fled to the US when Castro took over------they abhor Communism and its offshoots.
OTOH, Mexican, Puerto Ricans and other Third Worlders violating our borders are mostly Marxist-socialist freeloaders ----- who DO NOT LIKE Cubans.
My city is being overrun by foreign peoples. I see an ocean of foreign Mexicans, Hispanics, Muslims, Pakistanis, Somalis, Africans, Asians, Haitans , every damn thing, etc.
Obama keeps letting them into the U.S.A. . Obama will unconstitutionally grant them all Amnesty by decree. This is why Americans are begging on the street as immigrants have taken any jobs that are available.
This has to stop. Go back to your country you sick pukes. This is my country. We have no jobs in this Obama economy.
I jumped on that comment days ago on another thread.
It makes you wonder what he is up to. Much more common is latinos on food stamps and other welfare programs, some who cannot read or speak English and many are illegals or children of illegals. I see them here in grocery stores in Maryland holding up the line because they pick non WIC valid foods and try to use the card for them.
the latino begger is a straw man cruz made up just to shoot down.
The US is unique among nations b/c we are a nation of laws---AND WE WANT OUR LAWS OBEYED----
Cruz is really dumb ---pretending not to know about all of this---read on.
ICE's "documents and benefits fraud task force" found a common practice among "impoverished" illegals is to buy several faked identities for several thousand dollars each----the illegal then votes and rides the US gravy train under several names.
<><> Jose Madrigal---the Washington state rapist---had some 30 identities. And probably voted and collected US benefits under every single identity.
<><> Another illegal used multiple identites to bilk UI systems of some $3.5 million.
US Dept of the Treasury Says Illegal Aliens Collecting Billions in Tax Credits According to the US Dept of Treasurys Inspector General, more than $4.2 billion in additional child credits were paid out in 2010 to illegal immigrants. In 2005, the pay outs totaled $924 million. This program allows low income earners to claim a $1,000 per child credit. $20 billion EITC is estimated to have been paid out to these cunning "impoverished" illegals. Most of them are collecting over and over again-----using multiple identities-----falsifying official apps---claiming children they do not have and/or falsely stating kids are back in their homelands.
REFERENCE March 8, 2012 KENNER, La. -- Kenner police arrested illegal Marvin Baca who sold false W-2 forms to another illegal immigrant for $1,500. Baca sold fraudulent W-2 forms for $1,500 to other Hispanics here illegally.
Police said that on one of the forged W-2 forms had a SS no of a person living in Virginia. Police said illegal Hispanics purchase fictitious W-2 forms and file false tax returns with the government to receive EITC refunds. Baca was charged with one count of ID theft and two counts of forgery.
I get disgusted when I see comments like “boring white guys”. This is quickly becoming “No country for white men”. We should all take a day off at the same time. Let the grand and great minorities see how well they can do with out us. Let the woman see how well they do with out our protection. This sort of thing makes me want to go Galt and let everyone else goddamn rot.
The Congressional Hispanic Institute, Inc, is an entity organized by Cong Joe Baca (D-Cali) in his capacity as head of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.
Cong Baca created "HOGAR" (Spanish for home) in 2003 to work with the mortgage industry, lender and banks and latino community groups to increase mortgage lending to what savvy observers considered to be unqualified Latinos.
"HOGAR" colluded w/ Cong BAca in what was to become a massive bilking of taxpayers. Cong Baca calculatedly hyped the fact that the national Latino homeownership rate was 47%, compared with 68% for the overall population.
HOGAR was coached to call the figure "alarming," and to say "a concerted effort was required to ensure that by the end of the decade Latinos will share equally in the American Dream of home ownership."
HOGAR and Cong Baca conned the public, failing to note that most of the "dreamers" were illegals, citizens of Third World countries who had violated US borders.
Predictably, HOGAR colluded w/ co-conspirators which included:
(a) shaky mortgage companies that ran into big trouble;
(b) Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, both now under federal control after billions in taxpayer bailouts;
(c) Countrywide Financial Corp., sold to Bank of America Corp;
(d) Washington Mutual Inc., taken over by the US government and sold to J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.; and,
(e) New Century Financial Corp. and Ameriquest Mortgage Corp, both now defunct, killed by defaulted subprime Latino mortgages.
HOGAR's ties to the subprime mortgage industry were substantial. Bribery and self-dealing were rampant:
<><> Companies that donated $150,000 to Cong Baca got the right to have their own research fellow who would conduct fraudulent studies, which were cunningly used by industry lobbyists to pump lending.
<><> Bribery and extortion in the form of $100,000 annual donations to Cong Baca, for which HOGAR provided phony news releases from Cong Baca's Hispanic Caucus promoting a lender's commercial products to the Latino market,
<><> The most shocking example of bribery well-substantitated by Hogar's literature..... HOGAR announced it worked with Freddie Mac on a self-serving two-year examination of Latino homeownership in 63 congressional districts.
The "study" found Hispanic ownership on the rise thanks to "new flexible mortgage loan products" that the industry was adopting at the urging of Cong Baca's collusive coterie.
<><> HOGAR conned lenders into even more lenient down-payment and underwriting standards.
<><> As the subprime debacle unfolded, HOGAR declined repeated requests for comment despite the economic havoc their activities precipitated.
The mortgage schemes demonstrated the criminal activities of border violators with multiple identities---perhaps violent, terrorist-connected foreigners---colluding and conspiring to defraud private companies and public entities. And mortgage racketeering enterprises which employed sub rosa finance and business practices to carry out deceptions and frauds.
The alleged ring of swindlers---a Congresman, individuals with multiple identities, banks, insurance companies, mortgage nrokers--might be charged with cheating the US govt, taxpayers and bank share holders out of hundreds of millions of dollars via an elaborate web of mortgage and bank frauds.
The mortgage Dreamers used multiple phony identities, fraudulent Social Security numbers, purchased from identity forgers in order to obtain govt-subsidized benefits.
L/E will find that individuals with multiple identities obtained fraudulent mortgages then flipped the houses at ever- higher prices to family member who then absconded to foreign countries, sticking banks (and taxpayers) with hundreds of millions in fraudulent mortgages.
BACKGROUND A Wall Street Journal investigative report related that, according to the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council examination of the borrowing spree, uncovered financial schemes by low-income housing groups, Hispanic lawmakers, a congressional Hispanic housing initiative, mortgage lenders and brokers, all colluding in fraduent schemes to increase homeownership among Latinos with forged documents which enabled massive fraud.
This was not simply the mortgage market at work. It was fueled by avarice, greed, and Congressional enabling fraudulent practices. In 2005 alone, mortgages to Hispanics jumped by 29%; Latinos with multiple fraudulent identities in low-paying jobs obtained subprime mortgages for prime properties---soaring to 169%.
(Research provided by Wall Street Journal. Some material excerpted from the NY Times).
(Cackle) that's easy to figure out.
Cruz has huge political ambitions---sees himself as the "first" latino president---so he needs to harness the (cough) "latino vote" (most of it fraudulent) to catapault him into office.
This all fits in w/ The Third World orchestrating the border invasion.
The invaders are their pressure groups organized into hyphantaed voting blocs. The Third World knows vote-crazed politicans will suckup to hyphenated voting blocs for campaign contributions and votes.
The Third World is using the Mideast Political Playbook----salivating over the "foreign aid" the federales expect to rain down on their hellholes.
blacks commit many x the crimes on whites ( many of them sexual assault,35,000 white women sexually assaulted in 2005) .
All this is hidden by the media.

Uh-oh, Cruz will be another Hispanderer just like the little McCain buddy Rubio. What is it with cowards like Jonah Goldberg, always dishing the Anglos but never missing an opportunity to send the Anglo Armed Services into combat while he sits on his fatazz.
So this guy has never been to Mexico? Talk about panhandlers!
When is the last time you saw a Hispanic panhandler?Excuse me Mr Cruz but that's a STRAW MAN.
I've never personally seen a Grizzly Bear in the wild, only in a zoo, yet I know they exist in the wild. But by your question, the answer would be it's they don't, they only exist in zoo's.
See Mr Cruz... Straw man.
Plus, in IL -- now an Official Sanctuary State -- they don't have to panhandle, they get my tax money to live on. And the Mex and PR and other 'Hispanic') gang-bangers in Chi rob and steal for theirs -- plus get my tax money. [Sweeeeet! NOT!!!]
To sickoflibs: Straw Man immediately jumped to my mind too. WTF was he thinking?
Boring white old guys isn’t the problem.....liberal republicans is the problem!!!
The only thing “hispanic” about Ted Cruz is his last name. I heard him the other day on Fox News with Chris Wallace. He’s another “boring white guy”, but like you just said boring white guys build the country.
Marco Rubio, hispanic, who speaks fluent Spanish, is the future of the GOP. Sad to say, but it’s fact.
Yoo hoo, Senor Cruz-——here’s just a hint at the bills taxpayers are stuck with for the “panhandlers.”
1. $11 Billion to $22 billion is spent on welfare to illegal aliens each year by state governments. Verify: http://www.fairus.org/site/PageServer?pagename=iic_immigrationissuecenters7fd8

The total cost is a whopping $ 338.3 BILLION DOLLARS A YEAR WHICH WOULD BE ENOUGH TO STIMULATE THE ECONOMY FOR THE CITIZENS OF THIS COUNTRY.
1. The Earned Income Credit...you know money people get back on their taxes that they NEVER paid into in the first place!llegal aliens, most of which pay zero in net taxes, enjoyed $24.2 billion from the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) last year. Thats more than the annual revenue from the selected oil tax deductions and corporate jet deductions combined!Verify:
2. The cost of prosecuting and being SURE these illegal entrants have their rights protected! In 2009, the U.S. Justice Dept filed nearly 92,000 immigration-related criminal cases in the federal courts. The record-breaking trend accounted for more than half of all new federal prosecutions in the country, according to data maintained at Syracuse University.
As a white, obviously evil man, I’m offended by that title. And let’s not forget that white women aren’t boring because they’re...women.
No, I’m not going to read the article.
So you noticed (blush).
