Romney: The Boy Scouts should admit homosexuals
Life Side News ^ | 8/7/2012 | Ben Johnson

WASHINGTON, D.C., August 7, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) – Mitt Romney stands by a 1994 statement that the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) should admit homosexuals to the organization, as members or adult supervisors, according to a campaign spokesperson.

During a 1994 debate with Ted Kennedy, Romney said, “I support the right of the Boy Scouts of America to decide what it wants to do on that issue. I feel that all people should be able to participate in the Boy Scouts regardless of their sexual orientation.”

Campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul confirmed that Mitt Romney continues to hold that belief today.

However, she said Romney, who served as a member of its executive board, has not pressured the organization to change its stance and does not wish to see the Scouts forced to accept homosexuals. LifeSiteNews.com revealed that some chapters of the Boy Scouts do not consider the national organization’s prohibition of homosexuals serving as scouts or adult leaders binding policy.

The statement came just days after Romney refused to lend verbal support to Chick-fil-A in the face of a boycott.

“It is almost as if the governor is going out of his way to de-motivate the conservative base,” said Bryan Fischer, who hosts “Focal Point” on the American Family Radio Talk network. “In fact, if he deliberately set out to dispirit evangelicals and members of the pro-family network, he could hardly do any worse.”

Homosexual organizations seized upon the campaign statement. Zach Wahls, co-founder of Scouts for Equality, an organization dedicated to admitting homosexuals into the Scouts, said in a press release he is “proud to have Governor Romney’s support on this issue amid such a polarized political climate.”

The liberal website ThinkProgress claims the ban is “out-of-step” with “mainstream American values.”

Fischer said Romney’s position had more serious defects. “Social research has revealed that homosexuals sexually offend against minors at exaggerated rates.”

“In fact, according to research published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior, they are ten times more likely to molest children than heterosexual men,” he said. “Gov. Romney’s position, if adopted by the BSA, would put the sexual innocence of untold numbers of young boys at risk.”

The move carries political implications for a candidate struggling to attract his party’s base.

“If the Democratic Party is going to take a stand for homosexual marriage and the Republican Party wont stand up for traditional marriage, then they’re abdicating their role in the culture war,” said former Reagan adviser Pat Buchanan. He added in time, if left unchecked, “people are going to walk away from the party.”

We had chances during the primaries to choose a real conservative, but America wanted this homosexual-loving, pro-abortion rino, from Massachusetts. Who knows why, but now we get exactly what we deserve. Although I suspect no matter who we voted for it would have ended up with the same results.

I'm not sure about the "America wanted" part. I think that Romney shrewdly manipulated the Media's desire to continually pit one conservative rival against another in the Republican primary, cancelling out the conservative majority in each successive primary. Hence, "Mr. 2nd-Place" gets the nomination.

Unfortunately, finishing 2nd in the general election gets us nothing. Just ask John McCain.

The Boy Scouts should admit 11 y/o boys, none of whom should have a sex life or any interest in a sex life. BSA should then keep these kids involved in activities that build good citizens who are physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight until age 18. When Scouts move on at age 18, they should still not have a sex life. Homosexuality is perverse, against nature, and against God's Word, but that's not even relevant to the question of sex in Scouting.

As for sending gay men on camping trips with young boys, I'm amazed that anyone is arguing for the right of strange men to spend time with children under inadequate supervision. I know BSA's policies on two deep leadership, but the fact is that the policies only add a small extra obstacle for predators and perverts to overcome.

Hell he couldn’t even win his “home state” of Michigan. In 08 he finished nearly 10 points up on John McCain and in 2012 he tied Rick Santorum.

We could have finished him off right there but the 6 man rules committee changed the delegate allocation rules the night AFTER the primary.

WE as conservatives haven’t anybody representing us in this coming election, and I don’t see it changing with the forthcoming convention.

Romney is a Liberal, an extreme Liberal by his track record, and he hasn’t changed. Only some of his rhetoric has changed in effort to appear the conservative, but as most of those types their being what they are prohibits them from fully cloaking whom they are.

It’s a damned shame. A damned shame, as well quite disheartening.

I think that he and his handlers figure that the Conservatives, Rinos, And fence sitters have no where else to go if they are voting against Obama. So if that is true, why not try to gather in more liberal-leaning voters with statements in favor of the Homosexual lobby.

What really gets me going is that he is probably correct since their is no true conservative in the race for President. My vote this year is going for electing the most conservative candidates to office. Maybe that will get his attention?

I agree with Romney....the BSA should decide their policy..not saying that I would agree with homosexual approval, but that the organic needs to decide.

Some of them at least think that because Mitt made gobs of money, he must understand the economy. Unfortunately, making a lot of money doesn't necessarily mean someone knows or cares about the economy as a whole; they've just mastered the niche(s) they operate in.

Knowing how to maneuver in or manipulate the system is as likely to make you gobs of money as great talent, great ideas or hard work. Look at Warren Buffett or Donald Trump.

Romney knows a bunch of conservative "copybook maxims" about the economy and sprinkles them about. Not the same thing as understanding the economy -- or caring how it affects anyone else!

There’s various third party entries, there’s writing in Sarah, but our only real hope is a miracle in Tampa, and I don’t know what it would take to persuade God we deserve one last chance.

Tel us how .

Most of us don’t like this Dick either, but we have a chopice of him or Obama.

There is no way on this green earth to have another candidate at this late date.

If we had another who would it be, another chithead just like this one.
Paul is a nut, Gingrich is dead in the water, Santorum sucks,
and Goode has about as much chance as a snowball in hell.

Unfortunately, that almost says something good about Romney - if you ain’t cheatin’ you ain’t tryin’.
He might be able to stand up to Democrat cheating.

Romney is a liberal. There is no point in denying it. He should pick Sen Grahamnesty as a VP running mate or maybe Guiliani or Bloomberg and quit this destructive fake conservative act.

Is there some reason why boy scouts need to express their sexuality anyway?

Well They haven’t done it so far.

The republicans in Congress have done nothing over the recess appointment, the Immigration law Obama made, DOMA, or anything else Obama has shoved up our azzes.

I have no more faith in republicans than I do in Democrats.

Democrats are powere crazed loons and Republicans are a pack of wimps like Boehner.
