I don’t know what the permitting process is like over there, but this “dwelling” certainly doesn’t look like it was built to code.

The walls are particle board tacked to a make-shift 2”x4” board frame. There’s light coming in from the roof where it didn’t seem to extend all the way to the wall.

Here’s the code: Arabs can build what they want where they want, without so much as a by your leave or a deed. Jooos!, unless they’re willing to jump through innumerable hoops and wait forever, cannot. For example, Bet Hamachpela in Hebron is an apartment building purchased from an Arab who wanted to sell and leave, by Jews who wanted to live right next to the Cave of the Patriarchs. A man is sitting on death row in a PA prison because of this deal. He confessed under torture to brokering it. But in the middle of the night, right before Passover, several families were kicked out by Ehud Barak’s Druzian bullies. They are now living in tents on the streets of Hebron, carrying on a non-stop protest. A similar thing happened at Bet Shalom, also in Hebron, several years ago. It stands barricaded to this day.

So there are always these plywood outposts built on hilltops that nobody really cares about. Plywood is used because they expect to be periodically torn down and evicted. As soon as the heat is off, however, they come back and rebuild. This is both Settling the Land and civil disobedience protests. Code? What code?

The explanation for the poor construction makes total sense too.

I have never quite understood these settlements.  Can you please explain why folks try to establish them all the time?

Is it because they don't want to see a two state solution and are trying to block it?  Is it because they don't mind a two state solution, but they want to claim more land for Israel?

What's going on there?

Not every reader is going to know what this is all about, or why tearing this "outpost" down is important, and important to whom?

Sometimes posters get too close to a subject that is dear to their heart, and forget that many others don't have a clue as to the who, what, why, where, and when of it all.

I would say they are opposed to a two-state solution and are trying to prevent it as Goal A, and failing that mitigate the partition by getting as much land as possible as Goal B. If they accomplish nothing else, they are refusing to meekly withdraw and forget their birthright. I know these people (members of the outpost movement generally, not this settlement specifically). There are none braver, and I do all I can to help them, which isn’t much.

Before I continue, I want to state that I almost always find Israel to be in the rational right.  I defend the nation every chance I get, and I'm generally on the lookout for people that might be trying to game issues related to it.  I ask questions because I want to fully understand what is going in Isreal so that I can explain it to others.

Okay, I can understand this stance.  If it were my homeland, I would certainly want to keep all of it for the nation I loved.  Here is where I am a little confused though.

Granting that Israeli governments are not always as Conservative as the populace might like, was Israel initially opposed to a two state solution in 1948?  There had been considerable strife between the Arabs and the Jews at that time.  One large event that brought action to a head for Great Britain and the U. N., was the overtaking of an Israeli elementary school, and the deaths of a number of children.  (I believe that outcome is accurate - regardless it was a big event)   It seems to me that something had to be done, and I had thought Israelis were accepting of the partition.  Is that wrong?  If so, what did they support as an alternative?

And this makes sense too if Israel had been opposed to the partioning all along.  If it wasn't all along, and this is a small remnant of Israelis who refuse to accept it, I'm afraid I am less supportive.  I'm not here to give you a hard time though.  I understand you're doing what you think is right, it's your naton and not mine, but I do question the wisdom of thinking you could ever get the Arabs to live inside Israel in peace.  I know some presently do, but those were folks who were disposed to do it decades ago.  They aren't being forced today, and I don't know how you will ever get the remaining Arabs to live in Israel in peace.  Do you?  If so, can you explain it?

I'm not saying these people are, but other people have been brave, refusing to meekly give up on something, and have ultimately been wrong.  It pains me to have to ask these questions.  I'm sure the mere asking of them is somewhat offensive, and for that I apologize.

Any historical light you could shed on this would be much appreciated.  BTW: I am firmly in support of Jerusalem being your nation's capital, and would never support seeing it split between to two nations, if the two nation solution were to transpire.
