That Brutal Anti-Romney Ad Is Blowing Up In The Obama Campaign's Face
business Insider ^ | 8/8/2012 | Brett LoGiurato

Posted on 08/08/2012 7:44:55 PM PDT by tobyhill

On Tuesday, the Romney campaign blasted a nasty, controversial pro-Obama super PAC ad that blamed Mitt Romney for the death of a steelworker's wife after Bain Capital closed his plant and he lost health insurance.

The ad instantly came off as nasty, but it was further made damaged goods later in the day by CNN, when the network reported that Soptic's wife was laid off from her job in 2002 or 2003 and lost her health insurance.

She did not have health insurance through her husband's job.

President Barack Obama's campaign had been pleading ignorance, distancing itself from the super PAC ad.

But earlier this year, the Obama campaign featured the same worker, Joe Soptic, as a prominent part of its own attack on Romney's handling of GST Steel as the CEO of Bain Capital.

On "Morning Joe" today, Obama senior adviser Robert Gibbs said he had "seen some write-ups" of the ad and said he didn't know the "specifics of this man's case."

Not to mention what came out this afternoon (probably not new to most here), it was someone who is now an Obama campaign bundler who was heading the Bain ship when the layoffs happened, not Romney who gave up voting and operational control several years prior to this event.

I have noticed that tactic by numerous Obama/Dems spokespersons. When they are confronted with an issue, such as the one in this ad, they resort to a 'well, I didn't know anything about this ad or 'I didn't have anything to do with this ad.'

Of course, most times, the media interviewer just goes on to the next question or topic.

SuperPacMan kept saying, "but Romney was the CEO". Romney can be blamed for something that happened 6 years after he gave up operational control of Bain, but Obie can't take responsibility for the things that have actually taken place on his watch.

Amazing:::

It might help with plausible deniability if ole Joe wasn’t wearing the same shirt in both ads. Be interesting to see who shot the film, wouldn’t surprise if it was the same crew on the same day.

“Uncoordinated” it’s not.

I gather Mr. Soptic was a union man? If so, perhaps it was he and his union buddies who ran their employer into the ground. Wonder what he was making as a steelworker and did his employer provide some fully paid Cadillac health care plan?

Many of these union folks enjoyed top of the line wages and benefits paid for by the company. When the company said it was struggling and needed concessions, the unions refused to negotiate. The unions in effect priced themselves out of their jobs.

In 1997 the union called a strike that lasted 10 weeks. A sister plant was able to stay open. Interesting thumbnail history of the company on Wiki.

So we are supposed to cry for these 750 workers that Bain tried to keep working for 6 years in an attempt to turn the business around. Meanwhile we find out that 20,000 workers from Delphi got hosed by this Administration with the stroke of a pen.

An interesting footnote. While Bain was trying to work on a bond sale to strengthen GST the union went on strike derailing the bond effort.

Which is exactly the same thing ROMNEY said about his superpac ads against Newt Gingrich. Got no empathy for romney, only worse fear of four more years of obama.

Actually, the most delicious thing about this is Obama playing innocent and blaming a PAC, claiming to have nothing to do with the ad, means Romney can do the same. I trust the PACs on our side have noticed this and are warming up a barrage of nasty (true) ads savaging both Obama’s Presidential record and past statements, associations, actions to hide his past. . .

When anyone cries foul, run the tape of Obama denying responsibility for the actions of a pro-Obama PAC, and dryly note that no one can control the enthusiasms of their supporters, just the actions of their own campaign organization.

This ad is just Obama's inner Goebbels speaking. Tell a big lie over and over and it will dominate the news cycle.

Anything to keep people from thinking about what a disaster Obama has been to the nation.

Tell any lie, no matter how outrageous. Spew it out. Muddy the waters and people will either spend time talking about the lie instead of Obama's record or grow weary and stop listening.

Exactly.

I had relatives who were steelworkers back in the glory days. Even they questioned the wisdom of these high wages and top of the line benefits.

My favorite benefit was the 13 week vacation. After x years of service, an employee was entitled to 13 weeks paid vacation in one year, every five years. My uncle once said he thought it was a ridiculous benefit — after about two weeks, he was bored out of his skull and couldn’t wait to get back to work — and that one day this benefit would become so expensive to the company, that jobs would be lost. Sure enough, when the steel industry in this country collapsed, his employer folded.

My first thought when I heard that ad was why in the world didn’t that man “man-up” and take care of his family. When faced with no insurance he should have gone out and found something he could afford instead of just whining about it and blaming it on someone else because it wasn’t “free” anymore. Libs are mentally ill.

“That was an “ad”? I thought it was just more of Barry’s chickensh-t lies and propaganda.”

There’s a difference?

I can imagine the campaign conference:

“So what are we going to put in our ads?”

A young staffer speaks up “Well, we could have one that goes into all the accomplishments Obama’s had...”

... crickets...

finally someone pipes up “I know, lets accuse Romney of being a felon and killing people.”

heads starts nodding “yeah, thats the ticket”

Cheating is usually done in black precincts... otherwise I’m sure she would have been ‘voted’...

When dems ‘do’ voter fraud they don’t intentionally vote the dead or illegal... Dems VOTE THE PEOPLE WHO DON’T BOTHER TO VOTE. Some who don’t show up are dead. Most didn’t bother getting up to vote.

In the old days Democrats would take stacks of punch cards, put an ice pick on the candidate of choice’ chad - and hit it with a hammer. Chads would drop out.... The ‘stacks’ of cards were from the people who didn’t bother to show up and cast their vote.

If the FBI wants to catch the cheating - they need to add a few fake names to important swing districts and see if those names are voted. If they are, cheating is happening...

Obama’s MO is to have “separate” entities doing the dirty work while he feigns political “righteousness”.

Let us see, gets the courts to rain down the law on certain rules concerning where candidates live. Opposition gets kicked off the ballot. Favorite tactic of team Obama is for a “separate” entity to sue and get records unsealed that damage his opponent. Hmmm... Everything seems like an accident which always favor Team Obama. Helps to have Judges in their pocket looking the other way as well. In the current cae, Team Obama has the whole freaking Justice Dept. and two scared Republicans in leadership positions.

Look out Romney, blaming you for the deth is only the beginning. By late September, it will probably get more personnel. The Bain innuendos are just an appetizer. McCain was just riding on Bush’s folly plus decades of economic neglect so personnel destruction was not needed due to “hope”. Obama now has a bismal national record that needs to camouflaged by linking Romney to all sorts of perceived “evils” through third party surrogates.

The thing I find fascinating about all this is that for the first time I can remember, the leftwing is getting called out for its lying. And many Americans who never paid any attention are sitting up and paying attention, asking questions, and demanding answers.

The left has gotten so accustomed to lying and getting away with it that they are in shock now that they can’t.

A few more overreaches like this and people might start to question who the impostor in the White House is. That would be poetic justice - pushing too far with the lies so that it backfires and sinks your own campaign.

The Audacity of Hype has become the Audacity of Complete Fabrication.

The problem wasn’t really the lack of insurance, the problem was that the woman didn’t go to the doctor unless she was sick. She had insurance when her husband was laid off, for two years and she just never went, I guess. It was too late when the symptoms finally showed up.
