Ohio teen collapses from dehydration after playing Modern Warfare 3 on Xbox for 4 days
By Associated Press, Published: August 8

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A four-day Xbox gaming marathon apparently was too much for one 15-year-old Ohio boy.

WCMH-TV reports that the Columbus teen collapsed and was hospitalized Tuesday after becoming severely dehydrated. His mother says he emerged from his bedroom during the four days only to pick up snacks or take a quick shower.

He’s expected to be OK — but his mom has taken away the Xbox.

Thanks, mom.

Maybe she's just thinking ahead and put it in her basement.

. . .

And she was okay with that?

I’m thinking either she was too weak to tell him no and stick with it, or that she didn’t discourage it because it kept him out of her hair while she did her own thing.

I guess his “squad leader” wasn’t there to enforce the priorities of work.

Where is the CPSA on this? Shouldn’t xBoxs come with warnings about the need for water, nutrition and sleep?

Kid needs to suck it up, passes out after only 4 days? P@@@y!! /sarc Stupid kid just needed to drink some water and eat regularly and he would have been fine. At least pick a better game next time someone tries a marathon like that.

I would like to know the demarcation line concerning the generations who use X-boxes. I’m over sixty, and have never used one. Naturally, I have a 30ish son-in-law who is never without one. Are there any people fifty+ playing with these things?

Here's the deal, before you let the little nerd play again, make sure he does it with a supply of MRE’s and a Camelback canteen. Stockpile several canteens next to him. Make sure he's wearing full body armor and a 70-pound rucksack for authenticity. Also, kick the heat on in his room to about 110 degrees for more authenticity. Let him play until he passes out from heat stroke or heat exhaustion.

Or she is using “love and logic” and letting the boy learn the hard lesson that he would not learn other wise.

It’s like I tell my scouts while on a hike. I can tell you to drink water, but I can not force you to drink it. However, the paramedics can force an IV into your arm as they transport you to the hospital ... and you can then explain to your parents why you did not want to drink water.

STUPID SHOULD HURT

It has to be one of those online games. We have an addicted 30yr old too. As I understand it the xbox enters the internet and is fed games with other players playing the different characters. Considering what else is on TV, the games sound interesting and more challenging than couch and Twinkies, no?

I like it... However, when my son was a teenager, I soon figured out, a new video game kept him out of a lot of potential trouble. At the time, several of my friends were dealing with teens in court and teen pregnancies. So, I made sure to play with him a bit. Having said that, he had to do chores and participate in family events like eating and drinking. I wish I could have found something engaging for my daughter to keep her out of the harmful influence of bad friends. I guess the Marine Corps will wake him up to reality. LOL.
