Morally Coherent Catholic Voters Should Decide the 2012 US Presidential Election
Catholic Online ^ | 8/9/12 | Keith A Fournier

...I write this article as a private citizen. I still have a right to speak out on such matters, thank God. And this website had enough foresight to organize itself as a "for profit" business. It has avoided the growing hostility toward Christians who speak out.

What I am about to say will make some waves; I hope so. Though said almost every four years, this actually IS, in my opinion, the most important presidential election in my lifetime. What is at stake is the very idea of this Nation and the values upon which it was founded.

On Wednesday, August 8, 2012, in Denver, Colorado, the President of the United States sent an unambiguous signal concerning his complete disrespect for Catholic voters who understand their faith and take it with them into the public square. He was introduced by Sandra Fluke at a campaign event.

Her testimony was an embarrassment to Catholics. Georgetown purports to be a Catholic institution. She is now a surrogate for the Obama reelection campaign. The "Affordable Care Act" mandates, through the implementation regulations of HHS, that Catholic Colleges and other Catholic outreaches dispense contraception, abortion inducing drugs and sterilization under the ruse of providing "health care".

This is a flagrant violation of the Free Exercise Clause found in the Bill of Rights to the US Constitution. The one year last minute "safe harbor" offered by the Administration was a convenient way for the administration to table the multitude of lawsuits from Catholic institutions under a legal theory that the constitutional issues are now not "ripe" until 2013...

...Given their numbers, U.S. Catholics can determine the outcome of this election. That is if we act in a manner which is, to use words of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, "morally coherent"...

One simply cannot be a faithful Catholic and hold what is euphemistically called a "pro-choice" position on abortion or fail to defend true marriage and the family and society founded upon it. The same elite who currently control the Democratic Party - which abandoned its one time support for all the poor, including children in the womb - has now abandoned true marriage and the family and society founded upon it. They will reflect this in their official party platform during their convention in September...

As long as Church leadership continues to present their Pro Life stance and “Social Justice” concerns as being morally equivalent, the flock shall remain confused and divided.

I don’t see how anyone who professes to believe in a Supreme Being could in good conscience vote for this Marxist!

Dirty little secret - most of the lay staff at the US Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) are far-left social justice zealots bordering on Marxist. Many of them have been involved in democrat political jobs and activities before their current job. That’s why ACORN got $7 million from them.

The bishops themselves lean democrat, so don’t expect too masny of them to fight Obama’s anti-Catholic outrages. Heck, Cardinal Dolan, who is supposed to be so angry with Obamacare’s mandates on Church hospitals and schools, invites Obama to make a campaign speech at the Al Smith dinner. How does he expect the Catholic laity to get worked up against Obama when he’s tipping wine glasses with him at the dinner?

Why don't you wait and see what actually happens at the dinner before you tell us what you think is going to happen, swami.

If Dolan ends up mopping the floor with the marxist I doubt you'll admit that you were wrong.

The writer is a liberal at heart who seems to have finally been pushed to the GOP on abortion, but who will become a foot soldier for the moderate to liberal wing of the GOP.

He will join the voices to make the GOP the pro-life version of the democrats, he is no conservative, while every vote helps, the Catholic vote remains soft and moderate, even when it goes republican.

The overall effect is to continue a form of resistance and defeat of the natural conservatism of America’s native population.

“Social Justice” concerns

I could never figure out why so many think "social justice" means "government should do for the poor and downtrodden what I was called to do by God".

To ansel12:

Your comment is utter nonsense. Read his writings over many years. He left the Democratic party when Ronald Reagan ran.The last Democrat he even considered supporting was GOVERNOR Bob Casey who was censored by the Democrats. He has been a stalwart full circle conservative, social and fiscal, who has been fighting the fight for a long, long time. In fact, he was a huge Santorum supporter this time and Huckabee last time.

Knee jerk comments like yours on this forum limit could its ability to bring more in.You probably meant well, but please use better judgement.

My reaction was to his writing, he reads like a democrat who moved to the GOP over abortion, he does not read like what I think of as a die hard natural, right wing conservative.

By the way Santorum is a Romney type fake conservative and Huckabee is no favorite of conservatives.

So he is a Bob Casey, Santorum, Huckabee guy, that kind of fit my feeling from what I read.
