The makers of a new Romney attack ad, as well as the steelworker featured in the television spot, are standing by the highly-scrutinized ad, saying the ad does not suggest that Romney is responsible for a woman's death from cancer.
Joe Soptic, the former steelworker featured in a Priorities USA Action ad, told the Wall Street Journal that he thinks the ad is fair.
In ad, the former GST Steel employee recounts how he lost his job and his health benefits after Bain Capital -- the private equity firm founded by Romney -- purchased and shut down the Kansas City plant. Soptic's wife was ill but could not afford to go to the doctor; by the time she went to the hospital, she was already dying of cancer. Mitt Romney, his presidential campaign, and even some Democrats have said the ad crosses the line by suggesting that Romney is responsible for the death of Soptic's wife. Soptic, however, that he did not intend to suggest that.

“How does a woman get to stage IV cancer without her husband noticing that she’s looking a bit peaked?”
Democrat/Liberal = Liar. Prove me wrong.
What an ideologic dogmatic piece of sh!t Soptic is. He lost his job, but got another one as a school janitor. It was his DUTY to find gainful employment when his company went out of business. Because he was incompetent and only qualified to mop up kids’ puke isn’t our concern.
He admitted that he ‘got’ healthcare for himself, but “couldn’t afford it for his wife”.....why in the hell not? It is because she already HAD healthcare, that’s why. You pay for what you absolutely need, above all else. They were just trying to get ‘theirs’.
Cheapass leeches trying to maximize what they take home, that’s all. They are walking all this back now because his greed is coming to light.
Anyone with any sense knows that even though one’s insurance may not still be in effect it IS possible to document, by doctor’s assessment, that the condition EXISTED while employed and insurance WAS in effect.
This is just Democrat BS and “I feel your pain (obama), and I don’t feel your pain (Romney)” Screw him.
Barry: (wiping frosting from his lips) "NO"
So what exactly did he intend? Useful idiot....
“....the highly-scrutinized ad.”
If that’s how they want to frame it.
I hear you. I have felt it my duty as a husband and father over the years to provide needed basics to my family (food, shelter, health coverage). I have done that more or less continuously for more than two decades, whether that meant taking a crappy job I really didn’t want, working multiple jobs, or whatever.
So what is Sopic’s problem?
“he thinks the ad is fair.”
Of course he does. Leeches have no qualms about lying to get their way. If our society were truly fair, he would receive a public flogging!
Why the hell would he allow her to drop her insurance knowing she just had a shoulder injury?
last election we had Joe the Plumber. now we have Joe the Liar.
“So what is Sopics problem?”
He is a liberal dim, and he’s making his problem a problem for all of us.
Joe Soptic could have paid for his wife’s insurance or she could have bought COBRA.
Why the hell would he allow her to drop her insurance knowing she just had a shoulder injury?

He gets laid off from steel job.
What was his severance package?
What was extent of health coverage after being RIF’ed?
What Union benefits did he receive?
Wife was working at ‘Saver’ store had her own heath insurance.
She had rotator cuff injury, was it job related?
Did she receive Workman’s Comp for shoulder injury?
With husband working as janitor why would she quit her
job where she had health coverage?
IIRC an valid Workman’s comp claim continues until
Resolution, employed or not.
Why is Soptic reluctant to reveal the last twelve years of his and his wife’s tax returns?
What’s Soptic afraid to reveal?
That’s probably NOT frosting. At least in the traditional definition of the word.
At home, I'm sure his wife took care of him and managed the home.
At work, as a member of United Steelworkers, he had no say in his day to day work activies, no communication to company management about himself, as an individual.
He had to ask the shop stewart when he could pee.
So, all of a sudden, his wife isn't there, his old union friends can't find him a steel working job.
So, A little Obama ad money must come in handy.
Off the top of my head, I’ve known four people with stage 4 cancer (2 pancreatic, 2 colon) who got sick very suddenly - no serious symptoms until then.
One had some back pain for a few weeks - was found dead one morning, autopsy showed pancreatic cancer.
COBRA is horrendously expensive since the former employee is responsible for the employer’s portion as well. If they couldn’t afford to cover her on his new job’s insurance, they would not have been able to afford to do COBRA.
Soptic said his wife hadn’t been feeling well.So he knew something wasn’t right. Yet he never took her to the doctor until the very end.
