I live near Scotts which is near Columbus, OH. This was on local radio news. I found it interesting. On the radio the company said they did not care if they alienated customers who disagreed. I suspect that most people who upgrade to Scotts products are not dems anyhow:-)

It is also possible that since he supported dem governor in past he decided to do this to undo some probs ?

Certainly , the Chik-fil-A thing is setting a precedent that being open about conservative things might not be so bad for the company.

IIRC, I thought I saw an ad on MLB TV that Scott’s is the “Official” product for MLB Baseball (the stadiums with REAL grass/turf) and probably other sports also.

When a company supports liberalism, the media never says they are “going out on a limb”.

Miracle-Gro is a great product. I spray it on our border garden regularly and it gives us some of the best looking flowers on the block.

Although the quality of Democrat "fertilizer" is undoubtedly greater ... and in much greater quantity ...

When you make a quality product you really don't have to worry about alienating customers that much. Nothing I know of works as well as Miracle Grow. My wife is constantly pouring that blue juice over her plants. Works great.

They went out on a limb? I can almost guarantee that the economy will almost do an immediate 180 degree turn the minute Romney’s elected; simply, as a result of the relief they expect to get from a capitalist president.

Odds are, Democrats live in urban areas and don’t need fertilizer for their concrete stoop and iron fire escape, or they live in the suburbs and have a couple undocumented persons of non-American origin take care of their landscaping and gardening.

Touting environmental concerns while surreptitiously enacting control over US food production, the EPA under a second obozo term would move to make private use of chemical fertilizers illegal.

You're correct; it is not organic. We garden organically, and use this stuff for our tomatoes, in addition to their whole line of "-tone" products.

Do you consider a company that fires employees for engaging in legal activities off company times to be a "conservative" company??????

Worthy of a gardening ping?

Absolutely NOT.

This company has pumped all kinds of money into smoking bans and fired employees who refused to quit smoking. They only hire non-smokers.

I do not and will not purchase their products

I'm a conservative and do believe anyone or any company can hire or fire anyone for any reason - but I don't have to agree with them. It is also not a conservative principle to force others to go along with you.

That anyone on Free Republic would agree with this is beyond me.

Really? I don't care who pitched their products- they fired employees who engaged in the use of legal products while not on company time if those employees refused to stop.

The company has the right to hire who ever they wish, I have no problem with that. I also have no problem with a company that only hires people who do as the company wishes 24/7 - I just won't do business with them.

I have absolutely no clue why so many so-called conservatives would be so thrilled about the endorsement of Romney by Scott’s.

Scott’s is a company that hires and fires based upon legal activities employees do on personal time.

As I am typing this, I am smoking a cigarette - Scott/Miracle-Gro will NOT consider me as a possible employee for that reason and that reason only.

I fully support them in that decision - my reason for not supporting them is because they have pumped so much money into supporting legislation that would also keep me from opening another business that caters to people who do smoke cigarettes.

I don’t have to work for them or buy their products (I haven’t in many years) but I draw the line when they tell me how to run my business and that is EXACTLY what they are doing when they support bans on smoking in private businesses.

It's easy to grow your own tobacco however do not use Scotts Miracle-Gro potting mix ever. The reviews on the internet are terrible, surprising because it's the most expensive in stores. What works much better is Pro-Mix BX or TA if you can get it. It's a very high quality potting mix used by professional nurseries, although you likely have to go to a nursery supply to buy it.

Miracle-Gro's donation to Obama-lite buys no sympathy with me. Consumer products companies are typically leftist, and Miracle-Gro takes corporate leftist nannyism to a new level. They've just decided 4 more years of the Marxist regime is too much suffering for their business.

If I had a company and hired smokers, I would hire them at a lower dollar rate than non-smokers. From what I see throughout towns and cities are smokers constantly stepping out of buildings to smoke....and more than the time ‘breaks’ are given.

If you allowed them to smoke at their desk, that problem would not exist.

Years ago I worked or a lawyer, who was a former smoker. He refused to implement a no-smoking in the office policy because the smokers were always more productive than the non-smokers, who tended to take lots of breaks and were constantly whining. At one point he was the only non-smoker in the office.

And I never particularly cared for their products, even before they became busybodies. I can make better in my own kitchen without toxic ingredients.
