NEW YORK (AP) Time editor-at-large and CNN host Fareed Zakaria has been suspended by both the magazine and the network for lifting several paragraphs by another writer for his use in a recent Time column.
Zakaria apologized Friday, declaring in a statement he made "a terrible mistake," adding, "It is a serious lapse and one that is entirely my fault."
In a separate statement, Time spokesman Ali Zelenko said the magazine accepts Zakaria's apology, but would suspend his column for one month, "pending further review."
"What he did violates our own standards for our columnists, which is that their work must not only be factual but original; their views must not only be their own but their words as well," Zelenko said.
Shortly afterward, CNN said it had removed from the network's website a blog post that "included similar unattributed excerpts," and taken Zakaria off the air indefinitely..

Zakaria = Obama butt kisser
Oh yeah.....Joe “ Neil Kinnock” Biden : )
Talk about cruel and necessary punishment...hehehe
Not saying he’s a bad guy, but...I find it odd we rely on a Pakistani journo while we (mostly) fight Pakistanis:
I love Japan, but...can anyone imagine us listening enraptured every night in our own living rooms by a Japanese anchor after Pearl Harbor?
It’s silly to even try to imagine that.
But silly passes for normal now.
Yeah, that is what they call it now..."mistakes."
This was no "mistake." A mistake is when you do something by accident, or you don't know any better, or you forget. You make a mistake on a test when your answer is wrong. You make a mistake when you burn dinner. You make a mistake when you make the wrong turn. There was no "mistake" with what Zakaria did. He did this ON PURPOSE. And he hoped to get away with it. Like the kid stealing cookies, only sorry that he was caught.
Just like all the others nowadays who commit crimes, have affairs, steal, lie, cheat, etc. They are all saying they "made mistakes" anymore. And they get a pass from the Libs. No one is accountable for anything they knowingly did that they knew from the get-go was wrong to do. At least not in the Libs' eyes. Mistakes are the new "get out of jail free" card. I hate this new morality that is rampant in our country.
This was not a mistake. It was a calculated action for which he was caught. Look up the definition of mistake. Now he's a plagerer and a liar.
Time has standards?
Who knew?
When conservative columnist Jeff Jacoby was accused of lifting from an article on what happened to the signers of the Declaration of Independence in 2000, the Boston Globe conveniently suspended Jacoby until after the Bush-Gore election.
Time is suspending liberal Zakaria, but he will conveniently be back in time for the closing weeks of the Obama-Romney election.

“Not saying hes a bad guy”
Actually, he IS a bad guy. I can’t even began to count the number of blatantly lying Commie propaganda articles I’ve seen with this SOB’s byline. I’d love nothing better than to see this scumbag America-hater tossed permanently under the bus. I’d like to see him reduced to writing neighborhood flyers for first grader’s lemonade stands.
Zakaria is a Muslim but tries to hide his bias against non-Muslims. Same as Chris Wallace who is a democrat but tries to hide it. I despise phonies. I admire people who do not mind admitting whatever their bias is.
Yes and he’s pretty dumb to start with. He makes Captain Obvious look sharp.
>> suspend his column for one month, “pending further review.”
In other words, “...until the crapstorm dies down and we can slip him back into the lineup unnoticed.”
Journalism is a profession of vermin. Permanently check your conscience at the J-school door.
Stealing in whatever form is inexcusable. Zakaria should be fired rather than merely suspended.
