Teacher charged with beating dog to death; rescue group ‘devastated’

BY JAMES SCALZITTI Staff Reporter/jscalzitti@suntimes.com August 10, 2012 8:16AM

The dog was a little over a year old, a yellow lab-chow mix named Doc, rescued from an abusive home in Oklahoma and brought to Chicago for adoption.

But the rescue organization was stunned Friday to learn that Doc was beaten to death, allegedly by his latest owner, a fourth grade teacher from Lake View who told police he was frustrated after the dog misbehaved, defecated on himself and resisted efforts to clean him up.

What a rotten excuse for a human being. Beats an already abused dog to death. Yet, he teaches children... what happens when one of his students does something he doesn’t like?! Will he beat them to death and stuff them into the trunk of his car? Articles like this infuriate me beyond words.

They should seriously blockade Chicago from the rest of the country and let the city burn itself to the ground and let the human animals kill each other off then go in and rebuild it with actual human beings. What a sh#thole. This idiot should be given the same treatment he gave the dog.

This crime needs to be brought up at the school district’s next meeting. If they do not act, then pickets at the school where this creep teaches at would be appropriate.

I don’t know what it is that makes some people think they can treat animals like that. Such a beautiful animal...

Very sad.

Had the dog come in to his home and “clicked”, violently attacking someone and the only means of ending the attack was beating the dog- then I would understand.

But because this dog, who was a rescued dog, coming out of an abusive atmosphere, and “misbehaves” by having an accident... Somehow deserves to be beat to death? I don’t think so!!!!

This is not a humanbeing, and he is lower than an animal. Chicago is a useless corrupt city full of useless corrupt people. This jerk should be beaten to the ground and thrown head first into a bathtub full of scalding hot water, then beaten somemore.

This makes me sick to my stomach.

If he has this little patience with animals, how can he teach kids? He should be booted out of the school system.

Derek Fierro / Chicago Police)

Fierro, a teacher at Eugene Field Elementary School in East Rogers Park, adopted the dog when it was only a few months old from Chicago Canine Rescue.

The shelter named the dog "Doc" because he was part of a litter of seven puppies and said they would have taken it back

The shelter wants the remains of the dog given a proper burial.

Chicago Public Schools Inspector General James Sullivan said they are investigating the incident, which could lead to disciplinary action against the teacher.

So, he returned home and found that the dog had “eaten every scrap of paper in the house and defecated on himself”. I wonder how long he’d been gone.

This guy is good looking. I don’t know if he’s single, but this is a warning to all women in Chicagoland — stay far away from a guy with such a short temper. You might be next. Certainly the school district should remove him from all contact with children.

A sorry excuse for a human being. People wonder why there are times I prefer the company of my cat to most humans.

lab-chow mix

My own (late) lab-chow mix best buddy of fourteen wonderful years, Wally, was the gentlest, most loving soul I've ever encountered, in more than half a century of living.

JimRob would ban me for life were I to post what ought to be done to the miserable, wretched waste of skin.

If the dog crapped on itself, it was TERRIFIED of this guy.

It sounds like this "teacher" is a sadist. He abused that poor dog. Imagine the head games this "teacher" must play on the poor 4th graders.

If there is a 'Doggie Heaven', Doc is there & living a sheltered & beautiful life forever.

This is so heartbreaking & brought tears to my eyes when I read it.

That viscious guy needs to be fired & never have the chance to be near or influence children for the rest of his life.

Schools should teach kids something useful for a change.. like how to be a responsible dog owner..

It's pretty simple.. Patience, Persistence and last but not least.. EXERCISE! A tired dog is a happy, calm dog.

If only there were thousands of 'Dog Whisperers' to teach the clueless how to interact with dogs.

Our first rescue was a Cocker that had been beaten and thrown down a flight of stairs. He required a pin in his left hind leg. The wife decided to keep the husband and get rid of the dog.

We got a D@MN good dog out of the deal, but I often wondered who the husband beat after they got rid of the dog.

Thanks for jerking me out from in front of that bus, Kent. Oh man. I doubt I’d last 5 seconds working in animal control on a “good” day. A situation like this would be *directly to jail* for me, bare handed. This is every rescuer’s worst fear. (Please remember that if their questions & examinations seem invasive or extreme. Not to this extent, but even then, some adoptions still fail)

We all know what this guy deserves. He *will* get it, eventually (in the next life).

In the last months of his life, my Rocket the cat was occasionally incontinent. That mattered not at all to me, and I still praised him and told him he was a good boy. After 15 years of his being my loving constant companion, I wasn’t about to chastise him in any way when he became ill.

He truly was my good boy.

Besides, no one should ever use corporal punishment on a pet. It doesn’t work, other than to cause hate and fear, and it makes no sense to hurt an animal for being an animal.

Animal behavior can be modified by positive means, such as treats, praise, attention, grooming, and expressing affection with ear scritches, tummy rubs, etc.
