10 interesting facts about Paul Ryan
The Daily Caller ^ | 08/11/2012 | Jamie Weinstein

Posted on 08/11/2012 8:34:04 AM PDT by CaptainKrunch

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will name Rep. Paul Ryan as his vice presidential nominee Saturday morning in Norfolk, Va. Here are 10 interesting facts about the Wisconsin congressman:

10.) Ryan’s father died of a heart attack at 55 when Ryan was 16. Both Ryan’s grandfather and great grandfather died of heart attacks in their late 50s.

9.) Ryan worked for Oscar Meyer while in college and even drove the Wienermobile.

8.) He was elected to Congress in 1998 at the age of 28.

7.) He’s a big fan of Objectivist philosopher Ayn Rand — even saying that he has made Rand’s magnum opus “Atlas Shrugged” required reading for his staff and interns. Recently, however, the Catholic Ryan noted that he didn’t subscribe to Rand’s atheist philosophy, at least not in its totality.

6.) Before being elected to Congress, Ryan worked as a speechwriter for Jack Kemp, the late New York congressman and vice-presidential candidate in 1996.

5.) Though considered a fiscal hawk, Ryan voted the Medicare Part D prescription drug expansion in 2003. To the consternation of some in the tea party, he also voted for both the Troubled Asset Relief Program, the Wall Street bailout and the auto bailouts. He explained the reasons behind many of these votes in an interview with The Daily Caller.

TOPICS: Constitution/Conservatism; Politics/Elections
KEYWORDS:
He's a fan of Ayn Rands "Atlas Shrugged", but he voted for TARP, the Wall Street Bailout and the Auto Industry Bailout. Serious contradiction.

However, he's seems further to the right than Mittens. And the left sees him as a serious enemy to their agenda. That's always a great sign.

Judging from the level of screeching from The Left already, it would seem Willard made the best pick possible.

He wouldn’t have been picked if he opposed the crony capitalists. Mitt blew his chance to reach jout to those disgusting conservatives.

From one sarge to another, Mittens may have made an acceptable pick, but it isn't the best pick possible in my book.

However now is the time to rally around our candidates!

Regarding the Auto bailout; I’ve been reading lately about how it was originally proposed under Bush and then how it was executed under Obama. Bush’s plan was for GM and Chrysler to declare bankruptcy under bankruptcy laws and to reorganize, with all bond and stock holders and both professional and union employees having the protections of US bankruptcy laws.

Obama’s execution was to take over the two companies, declare the bond and stock holders as not having any rights to the funds due them under bankruptcy laws as being stake holders in the two companies. He then, with Geithner’s decision, gave the “stock rights” to the UAW, ensured that the union employees retirement funds were preserved and eliminated the ‘right’ of all non-union employees to get any part of their retirement funds from the new government take over. For this see the entire Delphi story that broke in the last 2 weeks.

A key Conservative value that was left out of this list: Paul Ryan is an avid (bow) hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsman.

We may see Nugent with him on the campaign trail!

Picking Ryan means the election is about the economy and the deficit. Which means it will be more difficult for Obama to run away from his record and distract the public with his “kill Romney” campaign of big lies. He is also Catholic, who will loudly stand up for religious freedom. It is a good choice.

The only Veep choice that would have driven the libs further up the wall is Sarah Palin and that wasn’t happening.

The more they hate, the better I like ‘em! And from what I’ve heard, his closet is completely clean.

His closet is clean??

Wait until the reporters descend like buzzards on Janesville, Wisconsin. They will dig up anything that they can find. They will find he got in trouble in 8th grade for something. There will be something that liberal reporters will find, that they can blow up out of proportion.

And wait until Jon Stewart gets his digs in.

Now the above is basically sarcasm, because, as we all know, the liberals and the media would find something devastating in the background or record of ANYONE picked by Romney.

That's a pretty good metric - the louder and shriller the left gets, the better the pick must've been. Expect the left to get a lot louder and shriller. They are spiralling down into full panic mode because they have nothing, NOTHING to work with.

Their boy has no record to run on (no record points they'd want to promote anyway). Their boy has nothing to offer, his "message" is worn out and transparent - everyone can see hussein is a raging big-government socialist, un-American and anti-American. They (the left) have nothing substantive to use against Romney or Ryan. They are reduced to literally making up lies about them.

Best job in the world right now: Mitt Romney's campaign manager. Whoever that is (haven't bothered to look it up) he/she has all the tools available... No doubt it is going to be a tough fight, and the left will get progressively uglier as their wild-animal-backed-into-a-corner panic sets in. But it is Mitt's election to win. Knock it out of the park Mitt!

In stark contrast to their complete lack of interest in hussein's background.

“he seems further to the right than Mittens”

Agree, and the Tea Party likes him. Also, Ryan’s blue collar roots and easy going personality are a nice contrast to Mitt’s button down style.

“There will be something that liberal reporters will find,”

Wait till they find out he drove the Oscar Meyer WeinerMobile as a part-time college job.

They will try to turn him into another Eagleton.

Personally, I couldn’t be happier with the Ryan pick. One day I was for Rubio the next day it was Ryan. I do believe Ryan is a better match for Romney. Sure, I’d love Sarah, but that wasn’t happening.

the liberals and the media would find something

Which in the real scheme of things won’t matter no more than a hill of beans.

With Ryan, it will be a real stretch for the dems to ignore nobama’s economy record.

This guy is a real plus.

No doubt it is going to be a tough fight

It’s been frustrating to listen to the string of lies and distortions from the Obama campaign without much in the way of an aggressive defense coming out of the Romney team. But, like any great battle, you have to marshall, position and coordinate your resources to attack the enemy. Timing is everything; don’t fire until you see the whites of their eyes.

Obama has squandered a ton of money and not really moved the numbers that much. Mitt, on the other hand, has a massive and growing war chest which will likely increase significantly this weekend due to the Ryan pick. IMO the Romney campaign is now ready and in a good position to take the fight to Obama on their terms.

Wow, he looks really good.

A follower of the Austrian school of economics.

He also is a Catholic who requires all of his staff to read “Atlas Shrugged”.

Remember he also is easy to portray as killing of old people because his budget requires some future cuts to Medicare.

Of course 0bamacare immediately takes 500 billion out of Medicare but the Lamestream media “MAY” forget to mention that.

Yes, the Romney campaign has seemed to start off slow, and it seems like they are not hammering on hussein in the oh-so-many places/ways he is vulnerable. I think that is part of the plan - a rolling, building wave pummelling hussein, Democrats, and the left in general for all their failures.

Romney's campaign has a lot to work with, and they haven't brought out the good stuff yet. Of course, the left keeps tossing them nuggets that are just too good to pass up on: Chick-Fil-A, "you didn't build that" etc. But expect to see the big stuff start dropping soon, building momentum.

Picking Ryan means the election is about the economy and the deficit. Which means it will be more difficult for Obama to run away from his record and distract the public.

More than 100,000,000 people getting government checks are not going to vote to cut their pay. This election is not about the economy, as many here think, it is about survival from the enemy within, but no one wants to talk about that.

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million cannot replace 545 people who stand convicted — by present facts — of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can’t think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it’s because they want it unfair.

If the budget is in the red, it’s because they want it in the red.

If the Army & Marines are in Iraq and Afghanistan it’s because they want them in Iraq and Afghanistan ...

If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it’s because they want it that way.

There are no insoluble government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like “the economy,” “inflation,” or “politics” that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.

They, and they alone, have the power.

They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses.

Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees...

We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

Juan McLame did a great job of marginalizing his trophy conservative VP and Mitt has shown every indication of being McLame’s loyal understudy.
Had McLame won in 08, I had no doubt that he would have discarded Palin like yesterday’s fish wrappers and replaced her with a Democrat.

No greater expectation for the tenure of Ryan should he succeed in pushing the presumptive nominee over the top. He will be used and then jettisoned like a booster rocket - or at least shoved under the porch; it’s the e-moderate pattern.

Sheriff Joe Arpio could give the Mittens team a lot of good ammo to work with, but expect Mitt & Co. to distance themselves from Joe just like he avoids Palin like the plague.

He’s obviously too timid to risk “controversy” and feed the lib’s specious accusations of being a “radical” were he to go after the NBC status, the use of dead men’s SSAN, ID theft, sealed college records, the Muslim connection etc.... so that ain’t happenin’.

Romney will, I predict, play it so safe and PC in this campaign (mustn’t offend anyone you know!) that he just might do what establishment “moderate” republicans are known best for; seizing defeat out of the jaws of victory.

I for one almost expect him to.

I like the Ryan pick. We can debate forever who woulda, coulda, shoulda been picked besides him but it is time now to join the ticket and get behind these guys to win against Obama in November. I think Ryan will absolutely slay “foot-in-mouth” diseased Biden in the VP debate. Ryan has a way with words that Biden famously doesn’t.

But I have a question. Has anybody seen Plugs lately? I know I read he was on back-to-back vacations at the beach but why in the middle of a tight campaign race? I haven’t seen or heard hardly a thing from him since he complained publicly that Obama was calling him a blue collar guy, which he claimed he was not. Even though he used to brag he was just a regular guy from Scranton. Is the Obama campaign keeping him under wraps to silence his gaffes? Or are they sweeping him under the rug because they are getting ready to replace him on the ticket at the convention?

Inquiring minds want to know.....
