Skip to comments.CNN's Gloria Borger: Paul Ryan Is 'A Polarizing Figure'
Posted on 08/11/2012 11:02:40 AM PDT by Kaslin
The attacks on newly announced Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan came fast and furious on CNN Saturday.
Just before Candy Crowley said this "looks a little bit like some sort of ticket death wish," Gloria Borger called Ryan "a polarizing figure" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
WOLF BLITZER, CNN: He's a huge rising star in the Republican Party.
GLORIA BORGER, CNN: Right. And what's interesting is that Paul Ryan hasn't always been popular among Republicans. I mean, he's proposed a lot of unpopular things over the years including taking away earmarks. And, but only I think after the Tea Party really took hold did Republicans, and you had a bunch of new Republicans in, did they sort of say, Look at this Ryan budget. It actually makes sense to us because it has solutions that we can sign on to. And then suddenly you saw the Republicans embrace it almost unanimously in the House of Representatives. And now you saw Democrats running against it. That's going to continue.
The debate is going to continue because Paul Ryan is a polarizing figure. I mean, there is an ad done by Democrats having somebody who looks like Paul Ryan pushing a grandma off the cliff.
awesome! they said similar things about Sarah Palin. they’re panicking, and I really relish that.
come on! Press the advantage! start talking about a place for Sarah in the administration! Secretary of State!
For the first time in this ladies life she is probably right. Ryan is a polarizing figure to Democrats and Marxist, because Ryan LOVES his country and knows it has been on the wrong path since Reagan left.
Wanna scare the crap out of a liberal..say FREEDOM and CAPITALISM..it literally makes their ears bleed
I’d rather have the ticket inverted, but it’s a lot better than it might have been.
Unfortunately, Sarah Palin lost a landslide election with her liberal top of the ticket in 2008.
I see the same, or perhaps even worse, for Ryan and his liberal running mate in 2012.
The country isn’t ready yet for a serious discussion of spending and entitlement reform. We haven’t quite hit rock bottom yet which is what it will take, but by then it is probably too late to do anything about it.
We are going to see the moochers and the elderly turn out in record numbers to protect their government benefits this cycle, and the results are going to be ugly.
Count on it.
Gloria is going for the Pelosi Look there, isn’t she?
As I mentioned in another tread, the RNC should have a commercial out tomorrow with Bambi pushing Uncle Sam over a cliff.
The more the left flips out, the better I feel.
When I see Gloria Bolger on TV I immediately change the station. Cannot stand her, and that is a rare reaction for me. I am sure that there are many others who have the same response to her.
Or with obomba giving out pills instead of pacemakers.
And Obama isn’t, you ignorant slut???
Vote Romney. Watching the liberals implode in November is completely worth it.
People need to be presented with dramatic differences in policy and governing approach.
If the media wasn’t talking about polarizing figures, then I would be worried.
VOTE THE MARXISTS OUT THIS NOVEMBER!
This bitch is Satan. I’ve watched her for years and have never changed my opinion. I keep thinking,...who could make love to this harpy? She looks like a rabid dog. A hydrophobic libtard infecting everything she touches!
Yep. They are in full panic mode right now.
Back in the 90s, Gloria didn’t seem too bad. Has she gone off the deep end too?
>>>come on! Press the advantage! start talking about a place for Sarah in the administration! Secretary of State!>>>
Takes a lot of make up to cover the brown on her nose from being so close to the Bozo’s rear end.
Paul Ryan was right about the earmarks. They are what make a bill so complicated that no one understands what is being voted for.
it’s a different world, homeboy.
zero is the polarizing figure.

You're not alone.
The ticket was a definite nail-biter. My vote hung on what the pick would be, and Ryan was on the top of a very short list.
Which reminds me..
". . . some key [events] exacerbated the national debate, fraying trust, and national cohesion just a little more each time . . . The two-party system that had governed America . . . begin to fall apart . . . interest in politics took the place of all other forms of news-related entertainment . . . politicians were the celebrities . . . [Politics/ideology] was becoming such a habit, the reactions so automatic, that [journalists] taking sides on every news story became inevitable."
..from for Love & Liberty by Robin Young and it's about 1857 America.
Americans rejected Obama’s failed, hard-left experiment in droves in 2010.
And that was just the warmup.
They would have said this about whoever Romney picked. So what? It’s a great choice, and the RATS are scared.
Geez! That face is a polarizing figure!
Unlike that post-racial, post-partisan guy sitting in the Oval Office.
These desperate attempts to label Ryan as extreme, radical, etc... belies the fact of exactly how scary libs are of this pick for VP. In other words.... the idea Obama could actually be a one term president .... just... got...real!
I doubt the RNC would have the nads to do it but I'd about give all I have to see it and the nuclear explosion from the left.
Great idea, kudos!
Just my take. Really hope I am wrong.
I just don’t have much confidence in the American electorate right now.
The MSM is upset Olympia Snowe got passed over.
You must have really been disappointed in 2010 and WI, I see what you mean. You listen to the Obamedia who ignores the Tea Party exists.
Pray for America
You're just snippy, honey, because he has a better figure than you do.
And you would mention that "push Granny off a cliff" ad. So nice of you.
Now let's see if we can pin the ad on Obozo. Better still, blatantly steal the ad, Photoshop Obozo's face on the menacing figure, and then repackage it as an ad about Obozocare. Then let's see who claims ownership in order to sue.
It]s good to dee the liberals in full panic mode, the end is near for them.
It drives them insane when things go to normal mode,60 years of socialism going down the tubes.
2010 redux...I can see November from my window.
Ryan is only polarizing because he won’t conform to the polarizing policy positions of those making this charge against him.
Ryan is only polarizing through the intent and intended self fulfilling prophecies of those hoping to polarize their friends against him.
All this has nothing inherently to do with Ryan and is totally a product of those who are against him.
How can Ryan respond, effectively?
Ryan should respond by correctly, and directly identifying as “radical” - and using that term - many of the policies of Obama and the fiscal conditions Obama will bequeath to his successor.
I’d like to see General Petraeus as Secretary of Defense
