Group urges convention delegates to 'Dump Romney'
Augusta Free Press ^ | August 10, 2012

A social-conservative group is using Mitt Romney’s Mormon beliefs and his record as Massachusetts governor to urge GOP convention delegates to “Dump Romney.”

A memo being circulated by the “Dump Romney” group argues that, given the weak U.S. economy, Romney ought to be leading Democratic incumbent Barack Obama in the polls, instead of trailing by as many as nine points, as the most recent Fox News poll has the race right now.

The group says Republican convention delegates are not bound by convention rules to vote for Romney, and that first-ballot abstentions could lead to the selection of a stronger national ticket in later convention rounds.

A key to the “Dump Romney” effort is anti-Mormon in nature. A press release from the group brings up issues with the Mormon religion including its “exotic beliefs” that the Garden of Eden was in Missouri and that Jesus is Satan’s brother to paint the picture that independent and Republican voters in swing states in the Bible belt like Virginia and North Carolina will desert the GOP in droves.

The press release also calls Romney “America’s Founding Father of Gay Marriage” for the same-sex weddings that were authorized by Massachusetts courts during his time as governor.

The memo, titled “Dump Romney: Why Tampa’s Republican Delegates must Dump Romney to Defeat Obama,” is available on Amazon.com and DumpRomney.org. It was produced by a group called Jews and Christians Together, and edited by Sara and David Bethel.

The aim of the “Dump Romney” movement is to “provide thoughtful, responsible and dutiful Republican delegates with a pathway out of their and our nation’s very serious problem, that the Republican Party is on the brink of nominating a sure loser,” said Steve Baldwin, a contributor and former executive director of the Council for National Policy, a Washington, D.C.,-based conservative think tank.

This is a fool’s errand. Willard will be the gop nominee. Period. Our choice is to vote for him or not. I chose not to and encourage others to do the same.

It appears that you are as confused as a Gore Voter in Florida 2000. Is chad is still hanging? The Republican slate is fixed. It’s either on all board or go hopey changey.

Didn’t teach’em a lesson in 2006 have any meaning?

You’re invited to come to my house anytime to watch the US finish imploding too.... You all better get with it cause we have two clear choices and despite your disdain for both, one does offer hope whereas the other does not, at all. =.=

Trying to elect a third party candidate at this late date would insure Obama’s re-election and the destruction of our country

Nonsense

This Republic was mortally wounded when Honest Ape waged war on the sons of the Founders, and killed off in the 20th century with the imposition of an income tax and Universal suffrage to women, the poor, and those under 21 via Constitutional Amendment.

The Washingtonians from both parties have no intention of reducing the size of government or the Federal work force and will conspire to stop it from happening by whatever means necessary.

Notice also how Ryan doesn't talk about eliminating the IRS, or any other Department wholesale and goes for the weak "attrition" method that will never play out.

This is just talk from another DC politician, DC will never reform itself.

All this stuff going on now is just death rattle.

Both parties play the sheeple for suckers every election cycle, this is just a fight between the political class over who gets to control and disperse the cash extorted from the citizenry by the IRS.

Surprised most people with half a brain don't have that figured out by now.

“Their actual aim is to re-elect Obama.”

Yawn. The meme that anyone who opposes willard is somehow supportive of hussein is worn out and tired. There are other choices on the ballot.

And once again, the Republicans will hand the Dimocrats a victory by eating their own.

One thing we CAN learn from the Dimmies is that once they pick their candidate, they rally behind that person and focus their energies on splintering us. Either that or they keep their mouths closed and do no harm. They always have the end goal in sight - gaining or maintaining power and position so they can further their world view.

You can’t just jump in at the last minute and expect to win the Oval Office. It ain’t going to happen and can only do more damage than good.

Here is a list of the wannabees that are jumping in inlcuding such stalwarts as Cindy Sheehan.....

THIRD PARTY and INDEPENDENT CANDIDATES

“If we want a third party, start building it and bring to the forefront at the next election.”

Yeah, it’s always Next Time. Never now.

Every time the gop puts forth some useless candidate on the ballot, the theme is “OOOH OOOH we gotta vote for him or all manner of evils will befall us!” The only thing that changes is that the arguments become more shrill and the candidates get worse.

“....a lot of conservatives out there who are the opposite of excited about Romney.”

.
Romney has not convinced many that he really wants to be POTUS and he certainly has not convinced me that he will be a good POTUS, should he win in November.

Egad, is this all the GOP has to offer? I guess I’ll have to hold my nose again and vote for the one lesser evil than Obama.

The GOP and Democrats are just neighboring plantations with the respective slaves shouting back and forth over a shared fence. The only time they stop is to chuck rocks at free men passing on the road

These people had better get on board (at least after the convention) or we’re gonna get 4 more years of “hope and change.” — and it will be largely thanks to them.

Two things would come of this.

First, it would ensure a loss. There are no candidates available who have enough money to compete, who already have a 50-state campaign organization, and who are popular enough to be a consensus replacement. They would enter hopelessly behind, the average voters would wonder how stupid the republicans were to pick a candidate and then replace them, and the democrats would be excited at the possibility of a blow-out election.

Second, the loss would be blamed on the tea party and conservatives, and rightly so. The Republican party establishment would never trust a conservative again, knowing that we wouldn’t support the candidate who won the primary. And the average republican wouldn’t pick a conservative next time, since we couldn’t get a conservative elected in the worst economy in decades.

On the bright side, there is absolutely zero chance that anything like this could happen, even with everything the Ron Paul supporters have pulled to get their fake Romney supporters onto slates of delegates. There won’t even be a final vote, in the end they will call for and receive a nomination by acclamation.

Heck, even some of the Ron Paul supporters will likely decide to support the ticket, now that Paul Ryan is part of the equation. They won’t get conservative delegates to join them, because of Ryan.

I’m not a big fan of the Ryan pick, just because I was looking for more executive leadership, and hate to see him leave the house because there’s hard work to be done there. But he’ll be a great VP.

By getting Ryan on the ticket, look for it to surge upward.

I have a theory about people like this. They are cowards. They are afraid to unambiguously support an actual candidate because if they do and their candidate loses they will feel to much sadness. Therfore, they always remove themselves from the real debate by picking some pie in the sky alternative who they know will never be an actual candidate. Then, if the real candidate loses, they can avoid pain and embrassment by simply saying they didn’t want him in the first place.

A social-conservative group is using Mitt Romney’s Mormon beliefs and his record as Massachusetts governor to urge GOP convention delegates to “Dump Romney” wasting its time.
