Skip to comments.MSNBC host: Paul Ryan quoting Thomas Jefferson a 'lovely thing' for 'a wealthy white man' (Video)
Posted on 08/13/2012 8:24:25 AM PDT by Rufus2007
On a special broadcast of MSNBCs Hardball on Saturday, weekend morning host Melissa Harris-Perry expressed her displeasure with the selection of Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan as Mitt Romneys running mate.
In particular, Harris-Perry took issue with Ryan quoting Thomas Jeffersons line in the Declaration of Independence, in which he declared rights come from God and nature and not from government.
The thing I really have against him is actually how he and Gov. Romney have misused the Declaration of Independence, she said. Im deeply irritated by their notion that the pursuit of happiness means money for the richest and that we extricate the capacity of ordinary people to pursue happiness. When they say God and nature give us our rights, not government, that is a lovely thing to say as a wealthy white man.

It shows a real lack of understanding the American concept to key in on that and play victim.
Wow, A twofer !
They get to condemn his wealth and his skin color at the same time!................
Never trust a dash woman. That hyphen tell you all you need to know.
Typical pseudo-intellectual poseur.
When they say God and nature give us our rights, not government, that is a lovely thing to say as a wealthy white man.
Is this from an episode of “When Idiots Speak”?
Was she wearing a lapel pin that stated “Yes I am a racist”? Was it underneath a Communist Hammer and Sickle?
the racism and th eleft is always there, they just cannot help themselves with it, they are infatuated with colour.
That’s pretty good coming from a successful ($), female, black TV host.
The liberals do not like that Jefferson wrote “all men are created equal”. The liberals say that Jefferson literally meant males, and only males of a certain social pedigree.
We’ve all heard that old saw, that the founding fathers were worthless human beings because they allowed for slavery to continue, didn’t give women the right to vote, didn’t celebrate homosexual diversity, yadda, yadda, yadda.
Since the founding fathers of the 18th century didn’t have a politically correct 21st century worldview, they are worthless, per the most extreme liberal/radical types.
I suspect that Mrs. Harris-Perry is liberal/radical in her views.
"Marcie Dahlgren-Frost. Dahlgren is my maiden name, Frost is my married name. I'm single again, but I never bothered to remove the Frost. And I get compliments on the hyphen."
She looks part white to me. Does that make her a partial self-hater?
A female obama. She’s a self hating black woman.
What a pathetic woman. Western civilization is not for everyone.
And if those ordinary people just happen to be union members, that extrication comes at a hefty price!
Missy & tingly missed that it was the
Republican Party that freed the slaves,
thus fulfilling the Declaration.
The Democrat Party has always chosen
to enslave America to the Federal Government,
citing Satan and Darwin.
At least Jefferson only screwed one slave at a time instead of three hundred million.
Yes, but it plays well to the other pseudo-intellectual poseurs who speak the same kind of gibberish and vote Democrat.
Yup, a double bagger for sure!
Black Americans have been voting for Democrats for decades...and they’re still poor, for the most part.
What in blazes is wrong with them?
15 trillion dollars spent on the War on Poverty, and we still have the same percentage of poor poeple that we did in 1965.
If you want to keep on gettin’ what you’re gettin’, just keep on what you’re doing.
How about a War on Stupidity?
I am further convinced that liberals are just morons with a degree on the wall. This possibly is the dumbest thing ever said. So, this person’s position is that government owns the people? Is that what he believes? Does he know nothing of history? Do democrat voters really want to return to having kings and tyrants, where the people are slaves of the state? That seems to be this person’s position, and the going opinion of the left’s political class.
For about a decade now (probably post 2000 election when the left went bat s&&t crazy about the narrow Bush win), it has become apparent that the left simply takes whatever our side says, goes to the polar opposite, ridiculing the right’s position no matter the merit. This is what the left’s politics have become. No matter what is said by someone on the right, it must be ridiculed. Our side could say the earth is round, and this idiot on MSNBC would say ‘Once again, the Republican’s have shown the white man’s greed in supporting Christopher Columbus. Columbus had slaves and led to the ravaging of the native americans. He’s white, and the GOP backs his findings.” We are literally fighting against pre-schoolers.
the racism and the left is always there, they just cannot help themselves with it, they are infatuated with colour.
I guess she does not like the selection of Paul Ryan.
Maybe she would be happier if Bawney Fwank was selected.
Pursuing happiness in the welfare free cheese line and food stamp line , and sitting at home or in th neighvorhood Licky Sto, isn’t really pursuing happiness.
Happiness is only free to the Community organiser owned and operated by Soros and his gang.
There is no evidence that Jefferson ever had sex with a slave. The whole rumor was started as a campaign smear.
Oprah is a wealthy black woman. Ain’t America grand!
As opposed to 0, who won’t acknowledge the Creator in the Declaration of Independence.
wasn’t Thomas Jefferson a wealthy white man???
Yet these same socialists don’t hesitate to put forward Jefferson’s “separation of church and state” quote despite the fact Jefferson had nothing to do with drafting or debating the bill of rights.
moochelle obama ain’t hurting for $$$ either...
She looks completely idiotic to me ...
She probably thinks the American Colonies of 1776 were comprised of nothing but slaves and wealthy white men.
How about a War on Stupidity?
By picking Ryan , Romney has started that very discussion.
Obama is worth $17 million more than Paul Ryan.
Don’t you work with a lot of wealthy white men at MSNBC, honey?
Miss Harris-Perry lives in a country where a number of Black Americans (Oprah Winfrey, Tiger Woods) have managed to accumulate a billion dollars. Hundreds more Black Americans have become superrich with fortunes over 100 million. They would not have done this in a third-world country or any other country in the world.
Also, is Melissa saying/implying she doesn't believe that our rights come from God? Does she believe they only come from government? Don't Marxists and Communists think that way?
Another example of the pervasive influence of the thinking of Derrick Bell racism on the psyche of much of the black intelligentsia of this country. Mostly it is stupidity, but it is dangerous because the communists have used it so well....
The Obama and Derrick Bell file
Does she think it’s ugly for a poor Black man to believe he has God-given rights?
I guarantee that if Allen West (my preference) would have been chosen, she would have not been happy.
I guess her head would explode if she were to learn that initially the inalienable right to "pursuit of happiness" was to be specified as "property".
I was at DummyUnderground a few days ago, and someone cited a quote from Romney that your rights are inalienable and come from God or nature. As in natural. Those words from Romney were met with scorn and derision by many Dummies until a few less stupid Dummies pointed out the fact that Romney was 100% correct. The rest of the morons had nothing to say after that.

If he quoted Booker T. Washington they’d accuse him of acting patronizing.
