Obama Just Took His First Big Direct Shot At Paul Ryan With A New Line Of Attack (The Farm Bill)
Business Insider ^ | 08/14/2012 | Brett LoGiuratto

Posted on 08/13/2012 10:30:23 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

At a campaign stop in Council Bluffs, Iowa, President Barack Obama hammered newly minted Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan for "blocking" a farm bill that Obama says would "provide relief and certainty to U.S. farmers and ranchers" during the worst drought in more than 50 years.

The drought is a new line of attack from Obama on the campaign trail on a day when both he and Ryan are campaigning in the crucial Midwest battleground state.

And it comes just two days after Ryan was introduced as Mitt Romney's running mate.

Here are some excerpts from Obama's speech, per his campaign:

“Right now folks here in Iowa and across the heartland are suffering from one of the worst droughts in 50 years. Farmers and ranchers depend on good crop season to pay the bills and put a roof over their heads, and I know that things are tough right now.

“The best way to help these states is for leaders in Congress to pass a farm bill that not only helps farmers and ranchers respond to natural disasters, but also makes necessary reforms and gives them some long-term certainty. But right now, too many members of Congress are blocking that bill from becoming law. Now, I’m told Governor Romney’s new running mate might be around Iowa these next few days. And he’s one of those leaders of Congress standing in the way. So if you happen to see Congressman Ryan, tell him how important this farm bill is to Iowa and our rural communities. It’s time to put politics aside and pass it right away."

During a press gaggle on Air Force One, campaign spokeswoman Jen Psaki also hit Ryan for not moving the farm bill forward. She put some of the blame directly on Ryan when asked directly.

FOOD STAMPS: "The House bill would cut current food stamp spending by about 2 percent, or $1.6 billion, a year. The Senate version would reduce food stamp spending by about $400 million a year."

Ryan wouldn’t pass a bill that would increase this year’s budget deficit from $1.5 trillion to $2.0 trillion? Good for him!

I thought one of Obama’s very first actions as president was to shut off the water to all those farmers in California. He destroyed countless lives and raised the price of produce.

Reports on ABC radio news say Obama is going to buy livestock and give the food to food banks....that is how he is going to help farmers. How the H does that help farmers? If he is not paying above market price, he is buying food that every consumer could buy.

Farmers want him to stop the EPA demand for ethanol from corn so they can feed their livestock easier. Once they sell off, it will not be easy to buy back. But no! We have to burn our food and give what food exists away! Please someone call him on this illogical scheme which is vote buying.

Ryan’s in Iowa today too. I’m sure he’s ready for it. Anxiously awaiting his rally.

Ryan is the perfect antidote to Obama's obfuscation and smoke-blowing re: the issues.

Ryan will use plain English to debunk ALL of Obama's false claims (including farm aid). And then the best of Ryan's explanations can be turned into ads.

The drought is a new line of attack from Obama on the campaign trail on a day when both he and Ryan are campaigning in the crucial Midwest battleground state.

From The Wall Street Journal:

"House leaders note that they passed a narrower drought-relief measure, but Senate Democrats rejected it, saying it was no substitute for a broader farm bill."

I can tell you right now, Obama will get very little support from farmers. We are not currently praying for the farm bill to pass to keep us going even though everything is burned up. Those days are past. Keep flailing POTUS, you are finished!

It’s rather unusual for a President to directly attack the VP pick of his opponent. But then... Obama is no President.

Farmers LOVE Food Stamps. It’s how they move product to people who have no money.

More than any other group in the country, farmers understand what it means to “leave a legacy”. Our where I live, you don’t have to drive far to find “centennial farm” signs, meaning they have been in the family 100 years. Farmers are the ultimate entrepreneur, battling odds that no one (not even the climate-liars of East Anglia) can predict.

Trust me, the core midwestern farmers care a LOT more about what Obama has done to enslave and empoverish future generations than about lining their own pockets with free money. Just watch.

Those who don’t, have already sold out.

Jimmy Carter did this to try and secure the Turkey Farmers Vote. We ate some form of processed, reconstituted turkey in our school lunches every day for the next year and a half.

Sounds like cash for klunker cows. Predict the price for used cows will skyrocket just like cars. Too bad we didn't beat communism here when Reagan was in.

800 to 1,000 lb steers were selling at my local auction for $.70 a lb.

At that price, you could buy one and take it straight to the butcher and split it with a couple of friends with freezers. :)

Years ago, before the mite disaster, I had about 15 beehives & sold honey at a fall festival thing in a industrial town down the road a stretch. While I was making a sale, I overheard two older/middle aged ladies talk. The one wanted to know how come this honey was light & the government commodity honey was dark. I could have told them that there are three possible reasons honey is dark:

1. It is derived from flowers that give it a dark color. This may command a premium in the market.

2. The honey is old. While honey can keep its quality for a number of years, it generally tends to darken with age, particularly if its moisture content is a little high.

3. The honey has been overheated.

My guess was that the government honey was a mix of 2 & 3. I suspected no sold their best honey to the government.

The Obama steers will probably be stringy & tough.
