Depends on the municipality. If you try to open carry a long-gun (rifle) in any of the bigger cities in Texas, you will probably be arrested for disturbing the peace. In small town Texas, I am sure they can do it with fewer problems.

This was never “on” campus and took place in a residential neighborhood about two blocks south of campus!

We’re working on open carry of handguns. Keep in mind progress is going to be slow as our legislature is part time and only meets every other year for a short time. In addition, a strategy of incrementalism is required to get these reforms through. We do have unrestricted permitless concealed carry in personal vehicles as of two sessions ago, BTW.

Interesting.

One of two officers shot during an incident on Fidelity Street in College Station has died, according to several sources.

Fidelity Street, College Station Texas
The incident appears to have unfolded about 12:15 p.m. at a house in the historical district of the city close to George Bush Drive. The Eagle’s police scanner early on picked up dispatchers saying that two officers were wounded. Initial reports state one was a constable.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect was in custody; it wasn’t clear if gunfire was exchanged. The person apparently was barricaded in a home for a short period.

The only one that I am aware of that will do it is San Antonio. Houston has been hammered with lawsuits for doing that in the past so they won’t. You can do it on Main Street in Dallas and I understand as long as it’s not near the state capital or the UT clock tower you can do it in Austin.

You will, however, be stopped by the police and asked what your business is. However, if you are not wanted and you are not actively threatening others (no carrying it at port arms) they will let you go.

The question that needs to be addressed is: Was this the fault of George Bush or Paul Ryan?

And incorrect. I’ve done it in Dallas on purpose a number of times. The cops will stop you, check you out, then leave.

"...Yes...unfortunately they did away with the electric chair. Whenever one of those events was scheduled, up in Fort Worth we used to turn off a few lights just in case they needed some extra juice."

Interestingly (to me, at least), my dad's uncle was the last executioner at Huntsville penitentiary who actually pulled the switch on the electric chair.

Joe Byrd also initiated the clean up and development of the prisoner's cemetery (Peckerwood Hill, previously). This is where they'd bury the convicts who had no family or anyone else that'd claim 'em. They were stacked in there (buried) like cordwood.

Uncle Joe organized the clean up, identification (where possible) and maintenance of the cemetery.

By many accounts, he was a tough old bastard (Ol' Bull), but he wasn't totally without heart, either.

A little tougher time for convicts than it is today, brother. You can believe that.

Wonder what our society would be like if that's the way it was inside now.

Headline is misleading. Reports read:

“Police are investigating a shooting involving law enforcement *near* the Texas A&M University campus in College Station . . .”

It’s not *on* campus. We are not talking a Virginia Tech type incident.

Another interesting quote:

“University officials do not know at this time if the incident involved an A&M student, university spokeswoman Sherylon Carroll said.”

So it did not happen on campus, and it may not (or may) involve an A&M student.

Sounds like this is being pumped up by the press.

Hard to believe that liberal Austin is better about guns than San Antonio. Bexar county (San Antonio) is pretty bad for gun issues in some ways. If you want to NFA, you must do it through a trust because the Bexar county Sheriff is notorious for not signing the individual NFA.

Prayers up for the families and victims caught up in this mess.

May the perpetrator rot in hades if something worse cannot be arranged.

Damn - I still remember his Togo’s order!

My son leaves tomorrow for the University of Oklahoma just up the road for his Sophomore year. My wife is hauling him there though he has made the trip my himself several times already. It’s an exciting time - and it’s hard not having them around anymore!

I hope your son has a great year!
