Romney-Ryan would target federal workers
CNN Money ^ | August 13, 2012 | By Jennifer Liberto (Obama MediaPAC)

(CNNMoney) -- Federal workers' jobs will be under fire if Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan win November's election.

Both Romney and Ryan have made it clear that they think federal workers are one reason the nation's deficit is too high, and have talked about shrinking payrolls and cutting benefits.

Unions, in particular, say they're concerned about Ryan, saying he has a record of "undermining" federal workers.

Federal workers' pay has been frozen at 2010 levels, a move President Obama supported to save $60 billion from deficits over ten years. If Obama wins in November, the pay freeze is expected to ease.

In a Romney administration, three different cuts could be pushed targeting federal workers or their benefits, as suggested by the Ryan budget plan.

-- Federal pay freeze extended five years.

-- Cuts to 10% of the federal work force through attrition and a hiring freeze enacted, limiting agencies to hiring only one new employee for every three federal workers who retire.

-- Requiring federal workers to pay for as much as half of their defined retirement benefit they receive at retirement.

Where is the down side? (Other than after it is filtered through Romney, these cuts will never see the light of day.)

And someone with matter between their ears has a problem with this? Try this with a poll that identifies the average salary of Federal “workers” with that of the average American salary.

Wonderful!
Now if Romney/Ryan can just target lawyers, we can call it a wrap.

Romney-Ryan would target federal workers

Funny, I'm sure CNN means this as a hit piece (which shows just how out of touch they are) but I'm betting this would actually win Romney-Ryan many votes if it became common knowledge.

I used to work for a private printing company where we printed gov’t jobs exclusively. Many times I would pick up from or deliver to the FAA. I noticed each time that there were at least 6 employees sitting on their butts doing nothing. The presses (much better and bigger than what we had) were always quiet and clean. Nobody had ink-stained aprons on and the floors were shiny.

I always wondered why the gov’t paid my company a huge amount to print from nearly unreadable originals and left their own employees with nothing to do while we tax-payers paid their salary.

Good. It’s ridiculous that someone who works for the government can retire at 55 with full benefits.

ALTERNATE VERSION

(CNNMoney) -- CNNMoney workers' jobs will be under fire if Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan win November's election.

CNNMoney management has made it clear that they think CNNMoney workers had better get off of their duffs and start attacking Romney and Ryan with any apoplectic hyperbole, distortions and outright lies they can think up.

Also, federal unions, in particular, say they're concerned about that dirty b*****d Ryan, saying he has a record of "exposing" Leftist vote buying, pay-offs and thousands of layabouts on the federal payroll. We can't have that!

Federal workers' pay has been frozen at 2010 levels, a level that is far too high considering that federal workers do practically no work. If Obama wins in November, expect even less work than in the past, but far more spending on trips to Las Vegas. Woo hoo!

“federal workers’ pay has been frozen...” is not a completely correct statement. The current federal employees are not getting “raises”, but they are gettiing “step increases” for longevity and promotions. That is not exactly a “hard freeze”.

As long as the fedgov is borrowing 40cents out of every dollary spent, a hard freeze would be appropriate - maybe even a 10% cut. That’s not “fair” ... but a real unemployment rate of 15% is not fair either.

There are way too many Federal workers, even before Obama took office. And, they may not think it, but compared to workers doing the same job in the private sector, they are overpaid with much better benefits.

It used to be, in the dark ages, that working for the government meant less money for comparable work, but that was made up for with better benefits.

No doubt. Just like federal contractors such as Boeing where much of my family and even I worked for a very short time. Some brag about how little they do for their union mandated 65.00 hr. And at times of big gov contracts? Unlimited overtime.

Most of my family though talk about being able to do their days job in 30 minutes and then they run around doing work for everybody else so they don't go crazy.

That'll take care of some government "workers"

"Requiring federal workers to pay for as much as half of their defined retirement benefit they receive at retirement."

Uhh...I'm not a rocket surgeon but doesn't this mean that Feds match dollar for dollar what you put into your retirement fund, in essence doubling your money?
