A threat to President Obama in the form of a burnt cat staked to a tree stump drew law enforcement officers from several city and federal agencies to a south Minneapolis park before dawn on Monday.
The cat in Longfellow Park was staked with a handheld American flag on a small stick, according to a federal law enforcement official. Standing next to the cat was an Obama/Biden 2012 lawn sign, the official said.
No arrests have been made.
Obama's official schedule Monday shows him leaving Chicago for Omaha and then on to Boone, Iowa, about 230 miles south of Minneapolis.
The park's main building is also an election polling place. Tuesday is a primary election day in Minneapolis and elsewhere in the state.
Luther Ranheim, who lives about 4 blocks from the park was walking his puppy and came upon the scene a little less than two hours after the cat's discovery. "I was like what the hell is that?" he said. "It made me sick to my stomach."
Park Board spokeswoman Dawn Sommers said the cat was found by one of the park's employees.
Agencies that responded to the threat included the Secret Service, the FBI, the federal Department of Homeland Security, officers from the Minneapolis Park Police force and Minneapolis Police Department.
The federal official said there are no surveillance cameras in south end of Longfellow Park, located just north of E. 35th Street and about a half-mile east of Hiawatha Avenue.

Now this sounds like a job for Eric the Corrupt. He specializes in hate crimes (Fast and Furious, New Black Panthers, etc.) and knows their methods in detail. I suspect that he could get to the bottom of it withing a decade or two. Might need to assign 200 - 300 Secret Service Agents, DOJ Lawyers and FBi Agents full time to assist in a crime of this magnitude.

"Cat food tin" is one of the most common smear phrases of Paul Ryan used by the leftists (e.g., "Paul Ryan's Cat Food Budget", "Paul Ryan will have us all eating out of cat food tins with his extremist budget", etc.). The timing of this act, so close to the VP announcement is unlikely to be a mere coincidence. I suggest the authorities look for different suspects...

Yeah, but a guy whose identity I'm not at liberty to disclose told me that cats who commit suicide always do. So the absence of a note is positive proof that Mitt Romney murdered the cat. I know that because I learned how to reason in Professor Reid's logic class.
