Shoppers could soon be automatically recognised when they walk into a shop using a controversial new camera.
Called Facedeals, the camera uses photos uploaded to Facebook to recognise people as they walk in.
Shoppers who agree to use the system, which has not been developed with Facebook, will be offered special deals.
A promotional video created to promote the concept shows drinkers entering a bar, and then being offerend cheap drinks as they are recognised.
'Facebook check-ins are a powerful mechanism for businesses to deliver discounts to loyal customers, yet few businessesand fewer customershave realized it,' said Nashville-based advertising agency Redpepper.
They are already trialling the scheme in firms close to their office.
'A search for businesses with active deals in our area turned up a measly six offers.
'The odds well ever be at one of those six spots are low (a strip club and photography studio among them), and the incentives for a check-in are not nearly enticing enough for us to take the time.
'So we set out to evolve the check-in and sweeten the deal, making both irresistible.
'We call it Facedeals.'

But it's coming.
No but it squirts you with kool-aid if you’re not a lib robot.

I thought this system was in place for the last several years and utilized at sporting events. If coming to retail, something is worrying someone possibly. Tinfoil hat time?
May I have sweet tea?
Some combination of these systems is an eventuality. It’s already in a few grocery stores but not yet widespread.
Oh it’s coming. It won’t be full-blown evil until after the Antichrist arises.
Yes, sounds like tinfoil. But must occur only after Israel is a nation again.
Against all odds, Israel is a nation again.
Eagle, no doubt here, time grows short. I simply pray God’s Will Be Done, for it will.
Reminds me of “Minority Report.”

Beware of Romulans bearing gifts...
(for the thread) - Harvest time is here folks - the fields are white for harvest - spread the Gospel far and wide.
King James Version (KJV)
8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
9 If any man have an ear, let him hear.
10 He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.
11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.
12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.
13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.
16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.
This test system is in Nashville, TN - it’s at the top of the article at link.

Voluntary for now.
I still won’t do FB.
Brad Thor - Blacklist
Now I know why my sister placed the face of her Doberman as her profile photo.
“Voluntary for now”
Exactly. Even if folk “delete” their accounts, I wouldn’t be surprised if those pictures, names, birth dates, family associations aren’t categorized *forever*.
And when it goes non-voluntary, the database is already filled with 900 million folks.
I certainly wouldn’t. But there’s enough of a database already built with driver’s licenses, etc. that it won’t be hard to put it all together when the time comes down.
Meanwhile, in India for the past several months:
A lot of folks post pictures of them and their friends / family creating viable links between faces and other info.
A group of folks I used to work with wanted to put a bunch on company info on the internet because the tools were “free”, i.e. wouldn’t have to pay for Microsoft Office licenses.
I asked them why they would want to do this and expose the company to risk.
They just patted me on the head because I apparently “didn’t understand” (the economics of it).
Like lemmings right to the edge of the cliff to get in line to jump.
Years ago I wouldn’t even ship HIPAA data on DVD without PGP encryption, simply to protect the company, our customers and myself, to be brutally honest.

Even if you delete your account, there are still family/friends/coworkers/neighbors who may have pics of you on their account, those pics will be on facebook until everyone you know has deleted their accounts. Not sure what happens after that!
The data will be archived, I’m certain.
There was mandatory archival many years ago, before storage became so cheap.
Terabytes are the norm of PC’s. Petabytes are the new norm for networks in a lot of cases.
A better application would involve a database of police mug shots. Identify potential threats as they walk into the store.
I would assume something similar is already being done there is a rather large crime and some photo available.
There are regular patrols of a certain parking lot in a nearby town where the scanners on the rear fenders are looking for plates.
