Chris Christie, the sometimes abrasive but always entertaining governor of New Jersey, is set to be announced Tuesday as the keynote speaker for the Republicans' national convention later this month.
***SNIP***
The scheduling decision was first reported online by USA Today early Tuesday and confirmed by Republican officials directly involved in convention planning. The Republican officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because the formal announcement was not planned until later Tuesday.

OMG He’s not conservative enough! /sarc

The GOP-e thinks he is the best RINO to stop the Tea Party in 2016 if Mitt loses so they gotta groom him...Son of a Mitt as it were.

I’m looking forward to this one. I don’t agree with Christie on everything, but I love his no BS way of speaking. Good choice for a keynote speaker. Glad he’s not the VP pick (grin), but a good choice for keynote, IMHO.
To: Happy Rain
He’s “earning his stripes” in the NJ Trenches, as it were. He’ll be a contender in ‘16, if he doesn’t have any serious weight-related health problems. He’s a GOP-e ‘darling’.

If every conservative treated the left as the joke they are, the way Christie does it, we’d never lose an election.

If we had more Tea Party candidates who could chew the left the way Christie does, then we wouldn’t have to worry about Christie getting nominated. The only one even remotely close is Gingrich, and even he isn’t the perfect conservative and he’s got way too much personal baggage.

I guess in a RED (as in Far Left) Blue (as in Far Left-go figure) State like Jersey a man like Christie looks like Goldwater.
He could only be a Democrat here in SC.

I do like him about 90% of the time. The other 10%... meh. He does what he has to in that RAT-infested place. I lived there and worked in Midtown for 20+yrs, before moving west in ‘89. Haven’t been/won’t go back, since.

It’s definitely “old news”, and I doubt that I’ll watch any of it, either. We all know how “the script is written” and how it’s going to go, way ahead of time. No surprises; all very scripted, except for what the RP-ers will do. Any thoughts on their possible antics?

Conservatives are few and far between and Gov. Christie is fiscally conservative. He can articulate the issues as well as anybody and he manages to shut the unions out in NJ which I thank him for.
For all the doubters about Christie, stop whining and complaining that he isn’t “conservative-enough”. He is governor of a deep blue state with a few of us conservatives to keep it sane. I don’t agree with everything he says or positions he takes but I do agree far more than I disagree. Other than Ronald Reagan, we have few “saints” on the conservative side who can do no wrong. Save the complaints about Christie and heap those on 0bama. There is plenty to complain about there. Far better use of energy.

Why on 16? You planning on R & R losing to Obama? We may not need anyone in 16 if that magic moron gets re-elected. Here’s how it goes down, Romney wins in 12-16. Ryan wins in 20-24...got it?

Haven't you heard? FReepers gave up on this election because the GOP ticket is not conservative enough.
Guess they'd rather have Obama stay in power to prove a point to the GOPe and have a clear conscience than to force the pResident out while holding their nose casting their vote .
I fail to see the logic of sitting out. If you do happen to figure out their logic, please share it. I'm baffled and PISSED.

Robert Spencer: Christie capitulates to Islamic supremacists

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie held an Iftar dinner at the Governors Mansion in late July. He took the opportunity to declare himself a foursquare tool of jihadists and Islamic supremacists, and even adopted their language in deriding those who have pointed out how he has allowed himself to be compromised by them. http://www.jihadwatch.org/2012/08/robert-spencer-christie-capitulates-to-islamic-supremacists.html

For what this is worth, the Independents, wobbly RINOs, and even some liberals in my office are VERY impressed with Christie. I know that doesn’t do anything to burnish his conservative credentials such as they are, but a lot of people may end up watching the convention at the very least.
