Americans are self-segregating. The election will show how much. California is becoming much more liberal. Arizona is becoming much more conservative. The part of the healthcare law which the Supreme Court overturned was the mandate that states expand medicaid. California will do the earliest and most generous expansion, while Arizona (depending on the election) will do little or none. Medicaid is poorly compensated, so doctors and hospitals have to "cost shift" charging more or doing unnecessary procedures on better paying patients. Doctors will leave California for Arizona, joining the companies, investment dollars, adjusted gross income dollars, taxpayers, etc. fleeing the California welfaretopia. California will continue to gain welfare takers, illegal aliens, drug users, occupy wall street, etc

America saw this before when whites fled the cities of Detroit, Cleveland, Philadelphia and Chicago starting in the 60s, and continuing to pick up steam for the last 50 years.

Umm, Dan W? You’ve been in Sacto a long long time. You should know that the word is not Californization, but Californication, which the show stole in order to make a smarmy sex ‘comedy’.

Afraid of copyright violation if you used the correct word or something?

Dan Walters is a leftist journolist whose opinion has recently shifted to criticizing leftist policy because he is desperately chasing credibility.

He could have written this decades ago. The only thing he hopes to rescue is himself.

Hey California, you had your chances - twice.

You could have elected a businesswoman Senator.

You could have elected a businesswoman Governor.

But you voted for a moonbeam.

Have a nice day!

Just today, I had to request removal from a California Republican Party mailing list.

I was active when I lived there, until 2008. I wrote (sorry) on my email request for moving away.

It's somewhat a selfish act to move from a politically opposite area.

Dan is correct. If the Republicans are castigating California then why are Democrats (Obama and Brown) NOT celebrating their success? Because they can't.

the whole state is becoming Republicans' dark symbol of where the country is headed should Barack Obama return to the White House

It's hard to find a better example of a poorly-run state than California.

Yes, it's stunningly beautiful, but you can't eat scenery, and the current Marxist-Socialist tax-spend mentality in government and too many voters there is playing out to drive away as many productive people/companies as possible - with the economy suffering as a result.

Too bad, it didn't have to be this way. But that's what an absence of leadership can do.

0bama's home state of Illinois is giving California a run for the (taxpayers') money.

No one is pointing to or at California and saying, “gee, I wish we were as successful as California...” The economy in California is dismal, its politicians in leadership positions, all Democrats. Moonbeam wants to raise taxes because he and the rest of the dimwits in the Assembly and Senate cannot come to grips with the concept of lowering spending. When Meg Whitman ran against this doddering old fool, Jerry Brown, she ran an ad using Albert Einstein’s quotation, “Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” Just proves that the voters in California are insane! Next month, I bid adieu to the once “Golden State,” and go forth to a state that does not have such self-destructive whims.

Well, here's a very nice test ground for the "Let's Elect a Leftist and That Will Prove It's a Bankrupt Ideology and They Won't Get Another Vote" theory.

As long as the "poor" are getting enough table scraps to survive, women get their "fixin's" and the leftist wealthy can still go to the latest hot restaurant, a-holes like Jerry Brown will get plenty of votes.

While I wish you well your comment gives rise to a thought. One of my dear relatives recently left California for the same reasons you state. The difference between you is that she is a rabid socialist. Her votes and beliefs fueled California's descent into economic catastrophe.

The irony is that she doesn't understand that the CA catastrophe was caused by herself and people like her. So she's now in Oregon along with uncounted former Californians of like mind. They're working hard to bring about the same kind of socio-economic disaster there as happened in CA. Oregon's almost there but has a way to go yet.
