Weekly Standard ^ | 8/15/12 | Daniel Halper

President Barack Obama has slightly more than 22 days to drop Vice Presidential Joe Biden from the 2012 Democratic presidential ticket, according to lawyers familiar with the party nominating process. That is, Democrats have until September 6 to formally nominate their presidential ticket which will then be qualified for the 50 state ballots.

Honestly I don’t know why they even picked him in the first place. He added nothing to the ticket and has been a total embarrassment as vice president.

As for Hillary, I understand why they didn’t take her. He probably would have broken William Henry Harrison’s record if he had chosen her.

No way Hillary.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Obama may be a far-left Communist-Socialist ideologue, but he is *not* suicidal. He would be assassinated quickly. I take the under side of the over/under bet of 01/21/13 in the dead pool because Hillary! would time it to be able to use the 10-year option in the 22nd Amendment.

The selection of Ryan shines a spotlight on the incompetence and sad bufoonery of the current VP.

OB looks bad whether he keeps him or dumps him.

If I were him, I would dump him now through some subterfuge and not wait until after the dem convention.

Slow Joe could stroke out and die.

The funeral would make the Wellstone gig look like triple A ball.

Dictators do not need vice presidents or other pretenders to their power.

Obama picked Biden (and will keep him) for the same reason that Nixon kept Agnew on the 1972 ticket.

Nixon knew that Agnew was hated even worse than him. He thought Agnew was his insurance policy against impeachment. That’s why Agnew had to be removed from office first.

Biden is Obama’s firewall. Neither the Republicans or the Democrats will go after him as long as Biden is next in line. Over the last 3 years, I knew that Obama was untouchable. But, if Biden suddenly found his past catching up with him and was threatened by scandal, it would have been because Obama was next.

I hope that we don’t have to worry about it in 2013. But, if Obama cheats or Romney fumbles, Biden will be the canary in the coal mine.

Well that better than the idiotic comment Sarah Palin made that Obama should drop Joe and pick Hillary.

For Obama to drop Biden, he would need to get approval from Valarie Jarret...his Consigliere...

She would see it as far too risky...

It would be interesting to see if the democratic convention has a say so...and throw a monkey wrench by placing a different name in for the VP nominee

Clinton won't take the VP slot. The polling shows that Obama has little chance of winning, so no Dem politician who wants to save their reputation will take it either. He'll have to reach out to a former Dem Senator... probably one who lost their seat in 2010 to the tea party.

That was just an attack from a different angle. All these are meant to undermine Biden’s credibility and to force Obama to defend Biden. Making the media cover Biden’s screw ups rather than hide will keep then on defense. The more they watch the more Biden will screw up.

If Obama does dump Biden, then he looks weak. If he does pick Clinton, then it makes Obama look like he took Palin’s advice and he is undermined even more.

Just wait for Bill Clinton to get into the game. I believe Clinton is waiting to kneecap Obama just to show him who is boss of the democrat party.

Please Hussien, don't drop Biden. He has already been dropped on his head enough. Plus, he is a walking gaffe machine that is fun to watch.

His record as President demonstrates he is far too arrogant and narcissistic to change his course on anything.

No question. But that's not why Biden will stay on the ticket.

What Biden said the other day was not a gaffe.

Biden's job is to say the things that Obama wants to say but could never get away with saying. And because of Biden's long record of saying mindless things, nobody even mentions it.

With Biden, Obama has the best of both worlds: the incendiary statement about Republicans wanting to put Blacks in chains gets out to the audience, and Obama can disavow it. Except that he didn't.

I finally realized what they are doing when Obama refused to condemn or even criticize what Biden said. It's because Obama told him to say it.

Since Sarah Palin suggested this, it would look lousy for him to be taking her advice so the Bamster will stick with Biden.

Who was the last President to change VPs during his administration via the election process? Was it Roosevelt? Roosevelt started with John Nance Garner then to Henry Wallace and lastly Harry Truman.

There were VP changes in others such as the Nixon Presidency but not at election time.
