Who the hell trains with hollow point bullets? Such a waste of money if is for training. Much cheaper to train with ball ammo and use JHP for when you are ready to rock and roll. Any LEO’s on here that “train” with solely JHP?

I made the same observation on a related thread last night. I was politely reminded that “this is the government wisely spending taxpayer money.” Couldn’t argue with the illogic of it all once it was laid out for me.

the actual requisition specifies that they want 125 gr .357 Sig bonded JHP

Okay, that makes more sense. I thought LEOs had pretty much changed over to semi-autos and .357 Magnum didn't make sense. But then again, I thought they went mostly to 9MM but some are going to .40 S&W.

Jeez, I need a scorecard to keep track.

Homeland Security already bought 450 million rounds and is now planning to purchase a further 750 million rounds.

National Weather Service ordered 46,000 rounds

Now Social Security Administration is ordering 174,000 rounds.

What's next the WIC offices will probably order a few hundred thousand rounds. For what??? To protect all those baby bottles from the mean ole' Republicans who want babies to die?

Homeland Paranoid Insecurity did a dry run at a Florida Social Security office... I think Obama’s government is planning on killing seniors who show up to find out why they don’t get their check.

Here’s what I know about Romney and Ryan - they won’t be arming people at Social Security offices to shoot senior citizens... Romney and Ryan won’t have our military training to shoot every day American citizens.

And the suck-up members of the press? People who would jump all over this story if Bush had created such an outrage... shame on them.

Here, I'll help you out keeping track of service calibers thanks to what I've read from all the self-appointed firearms experts on internet fora:

The .38 spl is a wholly inadequate as a service cartridge when using lead round nose bullets and has less oopmh than .357 magnum. .357 magnum is fantastic, but has fairly stiff recoil and of course a revolver only holds 6 rds, so you should go with the lesser recoil and higher capacity of 9mm Luger automatic. 9mm Luger is perfectly acceptable and has a good track record, except if you think it doesn't or it isn't manly or you use 147 gr ball, in which case the .40 Smith and Wesson is a good round combining larger diameter than 9mm Luger and more energy than .45 ACP with less recoil than a hot .45 ACP load. Of course if you're going to step up to .40 S&W from 9mm you might as well go to .45 ACP because it is larger than .40 S&W and has less snappy recoil and is more manly/patriotic; besides which contrary to what I just said the .40 S&W really the worst of .45 ACP and 9mm Luger, as it has higher recoil than 9mm Luger and smaller diameter than .45 ACP. But .45 ACP bullets don't go very fast and are overrated because what really matters is hydrostatic shock, which is where the .357 Sig comes in: less recoil than .40 S&W and .45 ACP and terminal ballistics like .357 Magnum. Of course, .357 Sig is kinda snappy and has intimidating flash and blast and is super-expensive so maybe 9mm Luger is a good choice for gentle recoil, low expense, and lower muzzle blast. But .40 S&W is better than 9mm and... [repeat ad infinitum]

...and I didn't even talk about penetration :D

Around November of 08, the story was circulating around that 0bama was in favor of raising ammunition taxes 500%. A lot of people thought that was how he was going to implement stealth gun control; by pricing ammo out of reach. Well following the 2008 elections, I remember being on back order at several different places for various calibers of ammunition.

I was on back order for 7.62x39 for over three months (I think part of the reason was I placed an order at a low price and then demand went up; the company sent me several emails telling me I could get my ammo a lot sooner if I switched to a different lot, which of course was A LOT more expensive).

I also remember reading one of the largest ammunition manufacturers in the U.S. was on back order for 300 million primers in the summer of '09 and for the first time, they were running a third shift at the plant. Even loading your own ammo didn't do you any good because there was a shortage of source materials like primers.

Right around that same time was when fedgov denied the sale of spent military brass, but finally relented after a huge outcry since ammo prices were up and supply was down.

We, the citizenry, bought somewhere around 14 BILLION rounds of ammunition in 2009.

Sorry I haven't provided links, I'm not scouring the internet to find source documents for news articles I read three years ago.

Anyway, the point is if the fedgov can create artificial demand the laws of supply and demand will be used against us and cause more shortages..............OR, maybe fedgov anticipates ANOTHER shortage after the election and wants to ensure they have supply in the event of a prolonged shortage.

It has only been recently ammunition prices have dropped any significant amount and the $$$ is nowhere near what it was pre-0. The prices of rifles like AK47s are still pretty high too in comparison.

BTW, I've decided guns are bad and scary, so I gave them all away at the last gun "buy back" program and I donated all of my ammo to charity..

About now is where somebody chimes in about .22LR being a perfectly acceptable SD round ...

and it is, if you’re defending yourself from a rodent.

And don't forget the guys on the other end of the spectrum who'll say that for a rodent you should use a heavy-for-caliber 10mm Auto rd out of a 5" barrel, minimum.

174K rounds is only enough ammo to minimally train 100 officers over the course of a couple of years.

Only the feds can afford to use hollow points for training. :-(

the Social Security Administration is asking to purchase 174,000 rounds of .357 hollow point bullets.

Is Commie Dictator Obama building “Fortress Obamanation?”

Will Fortress Obamanation become open for business November 7, 2012 if Obama loses, or if he wins will he wait until 1-20-13 when he delivers his Second Inaugural Speech entitled “Hopeless Change?” I suspect that Michael Moore has already been signed to do the movie.

How is the massive increase in Federal orders for ammunition connected to Obama’s Executive Order to deny access to the Fast and Furious investigation?

Is Dictator Obama preparing for a Muslim Spring in the District of Columbia?

Will Dictator Obama have enough Obamadrones combat-ready to effectively back up the well armed public servants at the TSA, and Social Security Administration?

Since the Liberal Agenda Media has not reported on this massive Federal orders for ammunition, that can ONLY mean that the Feds are up to something bad, and that the Media has sold out again to Commie Obama.

Will Dictator Obama dictate that the pesky US House of Representatives’ duties will be absorbed by the US Senate?

Makes sense since Traitor John Roberts got rid of the US Constitution, and Senator Reid got rid of the need to have an Annual Budget, there really is no need for the US House of Representatives.

Airports and Federal Welfare armed to the teeth, - - - - - - ? No wonder NO MSM journalists are not going anywhere near these reports!

BTW, why doesn’t Sobber of the House John Boehner just defund these requests for more ammunition for our underworked and overpaid public servants?

BTW, BTW, does anybody know if arsenic sales have increased since Breitbart’s coroner’s death? Maybe arsenic is what the Fast and Furious guns were traded for?

To: liberty or death

I’ve read it is estimated that if we get hit by an EMP that 90% of the population will be dead within a year. When it comes down to people watching their family starve to death or killing people for their food, I wouldn’t bet on any civility or guilty conscience then.
